What ship, Fed or Klingon, is the fastest? If you were in a race across both sector space and normal space, which ship will get you to the finish first?

For sector space, any ship commanded by a Vice-Admiral with a Borg Subtranswarp engine. (Warp 14 cruising speed with bursts to Warp 20 using Quantum Slipstream.)

For system space, probably a Multi-vector Beta section with a +full hyper-impulse engine.

The fastest ship? The Black Pearl. Just kidding. I'm not really sure if there is a fastest ship in game.

    MVAM Escort with Borg engines.

That Beta section is hecka fast at impulse speeds.

My friend's Beta section with the Borg engines is almost as fast as me even when I put on my Legendary SPEED X2 Hyper Impulse engines.

HAH!!!!!!!!! Millennium Falcon...what? oh dang wrong game... I heard the same thing about the MVAM w/full Hyper impulse.

but since you were asking about sector space...borg impulse gets you to warp 14

Yep,I suspect the AE in mutlivector mode should allow you fly fastest. That said, if you want to ask what ship is temporarily the fastest with using speed boosting powers - a BoP might be the better choice, as he could theoretically have access to Emergency Power to Engines III and Auxillary to Dampeners I or II and combine it with a high base impulse speed. But an MVAM ship could possibly beat this as well, using "only" Aux2Dampeners1 or EpTE I or II.

Sector space? Sans any upgrades that push the typical Warp 14-20?

Galaxy class Dreadnought Cruiser. Innate Warp 10.

In combat and systems? ...I couldnt possibly say.

For sector space out side of slip stream all ships will be the same and certain impulse engines will get you over warp 10 (the Borg engine is one). The big differences comes in slip stream, the two fastest ships i have is the three peace Vesta and the Dauntless. To figure out which one is the fastest I decided to have a time attack run. With the sector walls now down I decided to do a run from Sol to Qo'nos.

    Rules:
Both ships will be out of box(OOB) with no crew or duty officers and if part of a bundle, any console part of that ship's bundle can go on the ship (Vesta, Odyssey, Dyson ships, ect.)
Each run will be from Sol to Qo'nos then a separate run from Qo'nos to Sol.
You must use slip stream as much as possible.
To start from Sol just warp in to the system and warp out again.
once at Qo'nos just pivot in place till you are facing the other way.
The timer starts when you start moving and stops stop the second you slow down at system. (tip use the maps auto pilot)

The second test run is same as above but with the Borg engine and the Dyson warp core.

    OOB
    Sol to Qo'nos
    Qo'nos to Sol
    Vesta
    2min 48.5sec
    Dauntless---3min 01.8sec

With Borg engine and the Dyson warp core
    Sol to Qo'nos
    Qo'nos to Sol
    Vesta
    1min 25.9sec
    1min 32.4sec
    Dauntless----1min 34.3sec
    1min 42.1sec
    Avenger
    1min 57.3sec
1min 51.5sec  (I did miss a fold jump or two on the way down)
    T6 Intrepid--1min 47.5sec
    1min 47.6sec

So the fastes ship in sector space is the old three peace Vesta that came out back in season 7. Not bad, not bad at all!

with the two consoles fitted from the experimental set on the vesta I have clocked speed approaching transwarp 60. For this you also need full driver coil, DI, RP and a few buffs from boff missions.... on a toon with no driver coil skill or other boosts you can reach about transwarp 30.

The slipsteam on the vesta also has the 1 min operation. I am kitting 1 solely for moving around sector....

Didnt even get the full answer after all these years... Stacking temp buffs like both diplomatic immunity and raidong party. Plus now the cool down on slipstream matters since you can't do the full map in one go.

Though I suspect the Vesta will still be top.

Don't forget the Driver Coil skill. This has a nontrivial effect on your warp speed, especially if you get engines with a [Coi] mod.

There are other things you can do as well. More info here: http://sto.gamepedia.com/Ability:_Quantum_Slipstream_Drive#Sector_Space_Speed_Enhancements

my fed engineer uses a vesta with the borg engine and the 2-piece vesta consoles for warp 17.78 sector speed and warp 36.58 using the chroniton integrated quantum slipstream, with 3 points in driver coil. means i can slipstream nearly all the way from Sol to Qonos in one go :)

No, the Jellyfish is the hideous (with a stupid name to match) JJ Abrams ship that Spock flew.

Also, how is this thread still open? I thought it would have been Dodo-ified a couple of days ago.

The top speed for a Vesta in sector space is over warp 65. But you gotta stack buffs to get there. Its not permanent via gear. If the !maps were bigger then possibly the Risa cruiser could win via fast slipstream cool down beating higher slipstream top speed. But I'm not sure if it can get enough.
