anyone else print screen button not working?

robert359robert359 Member Posts: 355 Arc User
My print screen button is not taking screen shots anymore, it used to work. I have checked the button, it is not my keyboard. The /screenshot_jpg command works. I tried making a keybind to a different key but that didn't work either.

Am I the only one having this problem.

No. Just pressing prtsrn to take a screen shot, at least it used to. Like I said the command still works. Don't know why I can't change it with a keybind.

It stopped working for me way back in 2012. For some reason, my laptop only copies in or saves a black rectangle, if it even copies anything in the first place.

Same for me, my print screen only takes black screens for some odd reason. Started maybe one or two patches ago.

Don't hit me now, but why aren't you using the /screenshop command?

aare you running windowed or maximized? Maximized seems to have genrally poor performance.

I did recently change it to full screen. Will check to see if that makes a difference when I get off work.

Because in combat it is easier to hit one button then type in the command.

Same for me, and I'm now on my third new keyboard since then. Even rebinding the screenshot key doesn't hold, transferring from ground to space resets it, and even exiting the game and logging back in seems to reset it. This happens across all of Cryptic's games, so it isn't confined to just STO.

    1. Go to the options menu, keybinds tab and click on "Show Keyboard" to display your current keybinds. Print screen (Sysrq) should be bound to "/screenshot_jpg" by default.
    2. If it's not, the command to rebind it is "/bind sysrq screenshot_jpg". Type that into the chat. The "Reset to defaults" button on the keybinds tab will also work if you don't mind losing any custom binds you may have.
    3. Yes, sysrq, not printscreen!
    4. There are 3 different keybind sets, one for space, one for ground RPG mode and one for ground shooter mode. Check all of them.
    5. Keybinds are per-character. If you have more than one, check all of them.

It doesn't work in either situation. I almost always play in full-screen as playing the game in a window(maximized or otherwise) causes the to clip, lag, and eventually crash.

Hmm... I actually get better performance with Windowed Maximized over full-screen myself. Not sure why, but enh. It also makes it easier to swap applications. I have a second monitor that I sometimes have data files open in while playing.

    For the love of...

I brought up the options menu and under the display tap change it from full screen to windows maximized.

And it worked. Can take screen shots again with the print screen button.

Don't know why it makes a difference, but it does for me.

Well they use different software functions to display the game. Windowed maximized routes the game display through the OS normally, while full-screen bypasses the OS and routes it to the video card more directly.

Most games in Win7 that use full-screen are glitchy and annoying. Simply running them in a window works better.
