Likewise, if you just want to play Space Barbie/RP Hero/"Look mom, I can vape NPCs!", why not simply avoid the PvP portions of the game and allow those who wish to play those to do so?
As has been said before regarding STO and PvP, STO is in a very unique position in that there aren't any games quite like it. The gameplay of STO is crying for team play, cooperative action, and PvP.
we do avoid the PvP areas that's why they are so empty most of the time.
As for there aren't many games like it.....what with spaceships you mean?? Or do you mean ones that are mostly around the PVE rather than PVP, because apart form the back story there's loads of PvP centric space games out there.
If I want to Pvp I can go play Eve (2 accounts running for 4 years and counting) Freelancer...lost count many years ago still play on discovery now and then, even the newer games have open world pvp have a look at elite dangerous.
Just because I come into a game and PVE doesn't make me a barbie.

No other game has customization/expansion/teamplay in a "tall/capital ship" type game like STO does.
If people avoid the PvP areas, and they fully have the option to, what's so wrong with allowing people that wish to PvP to do so? What's so inherently wrong with allowing that option?
And you're right, just because you PvE doesn't mean you're a Barbie. But when it comes down to it, STO's PvE is a barely overglorified browser game. With 3 viable builds (FAW, CSV, and PartGen Sci) and spacebar becoming more and more powerful (seriously - spacebar now even heals both your shields and hull), STO's PvE is barely a challenge at all.
Since you obviously didn't read the thread, let's recap.
On the first page, we all agreed that PvP wasn't going to happen, wasn't realistic, and were just floating the "what if" around. No point in telling us to go play elsewhere if we're demanding PvP, because we never did demand it in the first place.
We are reacting to the overwhelmingly strong reaction we received for just speculating on an STO with a functional PvP. We weren't pushing any agenda, but people ran in and cried NO anyway; we even fully acknowledged that any PvP system should be opted in, rather than forced. Yet we still had the snowflake brigade rush in and cry about an idea that we all know will never happen.
As for PvP? I die a lot. I'm nowhere near the best player in the game (though Druk is probably up there), but I like PvP all the same. I don't mind exploding. It boggles my mind how worked up people are getting over a PvP thread. It's like they're experiencing phantom pains of toons, long since forgotten, who have died in PvP in other MMOs.
Another post another insult....you insult people because they don't play the game the way you want to, that just makes you a jerk.
I 100% PvE in this game and like the vast majority of people have been blown up, and despite your blindness towards the fact, we don't really care...we just don't want to pvp. Simples.
Me I defend the PvE in this game because it is somewhere I can play a space game with my sons, without them getting blown up by some ****** griefer who thinks it is funny to teach them PvP by killing them when they have no chance.
My eldest son is old enough and he plays eve with me for our PvP fix, or we go off and play CoD or BF depending on our moods.
Anyway I am an old git so i'm off to go bed...need my sleep. Argue with you more tommorow :P
Why does everyone insist on feeding the troll? Nabreeki's goal is clear here - he wants to whip everyone into an unreasoning screaming froth, so he can sit back and congratulate himself on "making an impact", or whatever it is trolls do when they succeed.
If everyone here were posting in favor of the idea, he'd oppose it and mock them all; it's the reaction he's after, not "winning" the argument.
(Of course, it's easier to divine his intent if you check out his posting history - a good 90% of it is simple trolling. Starfleet Dental members are infamous for it.)
Are you actually trying to make out that PvPers are the big strong guys...lmfao
You seem to insult someone with every post you make, whether its a comment like princess or calling them irrelevant.
Guess what your posts are irrelevant, the majority of people playing this game don't want PvP. Not because they're soft because I can pretty much guarantee their setups and skills are a damn sight higher than yours. Get this into your brain, we don't play the pvp zones because we don't want to pvp..it's a simple thing you just can't seem to understand.
And if there is one thing that playing PC games since the 80s has done for me, is to make me realise that most pvpers believe that the world should rotate around them, even when they are in by far the minority.
There's games for pvpers and griefers to go to, but your here why??? Are they too scarey for you?
The vast majority of players in this game are PVErs....don't like it then go show your mad skills off to people who care, in a game that allows you do to it. Plenty out there.
Yeah, why don't you pvpers go play the other star trek mmo that has pvp? I'm going to keep mashing my space bar... BFAW forever!!
Which is why I said, in the very post you quoted, that PvP would need an opt in...the only insult in my last post was of your reading comprehension, but here you are again, not reading what i wrote.
Opt in...
If this engine could do what Perfect World does. Flag for PvP on "non-PVP" servers, and offer PvP servers.
So.. Let me get this strait... someone thinks the thought of having some team PvP maps of both ESD, and Qo'nos would be an awesome thing.
Hey, not a bad idea!
There is no PvP meta game in STO, not even ladder play competition. In spite of this there are folks that PvP anyway.
Pretty sure the tiny STO PvP community would love to have new places/maps to PvP on. I don't recall when the last time a PvP map was added to the game, but it really has been a good long while.
In conclusion, If it can be done, I encourage that it BE done. Maybe one of the dev team will take it up as a side project.
The objections I've seen to it in this thread don't really show any actual consideration of the issue, concept, or even civil consideration of other players.
Personal to Nabreeki:
So, has Dental recovered from the fall out of it collective disrespect shown to the community from your fleet and its associates activities after Nimoy's passing? Heard about the party amps etc at the in game memorials and the reaction to them. Can't begin to say how pleased I was to hear that you and yours finally stepped over a line that GOT the GM's undivided attention. Couldn't have happen to a more deserving bunch.
It could be World vs World 40 man vs. 40 man battles. Everything needed for this is already there. Crptics just needs to remove the faction lock on visiting each others Worlds. I think it would be fun.
I used to play WoW, and some of the most fun I had were the randomly-organized City raids with epic uncountable numbers of players on either side (sometimes several hundred could get involved), some trying to take out the city leader, others trying to protect them. Lots of devastation on both ends, so many deaths, but it was so much fun...
So yeah, I don't really see the same thing being possible in STO, but if it could be pulled off, it's possible it could be a lot of fun
There's no such thing as 'respectful behavior' in an anarchy like a pvp game. There's just fighting for survival, fighting to keep whats yours, fighting to take what belongs to others.
I'd disagree - there were loads of player-hosted (since Cryptic apparently lacks the capability to even do that) Tournaments were items/gear/ships were banned due to them being blatantly OP/broken. Everyone agreed on it, no one used it.
Sure, you can say "Well those are the rules, of course they'd follow them", but a lot of that was even during the Voldemort days (a bug that we're not even allowed to bring up, because Cryptic hates when we point on their flaws); you could easily slot extra BOff abilities. That was a time when the meta was such that even something as simple as an extra SciTeam 1 would go unnoticed but would change the whole outcome of the match. Even then, people stuck to the rules.
You see something similar nowadays - when a match fills up and one side has more players than the other (or someone leaves mid-match), people on the larger team often volunteer (via announcing it in Zone chat) to sit out so the numbers are even.
This isnt a pvp game though, its not even close at all.
In the little skirmishes people can have in the game's arena system, nothing is at stake, the winners dont loot the losers corpses and take their valuable gear.
Also, you dont have to worry about being killed and looted while you're fighting mobs like you do in a pvp game.
There is a lot at stake in a real pvp game, which is what makes it so compelling.
It's not a PvP game anymore - despite the fact that it was heavily marketed (by Cryptic) to be so before/at launch.
KDF being "The PvP faction!" and all that.
Looting and such would have been interesting, but could never be implemented now due to both power creep meaning seasoned veterans have a huge advantage over newcomers and because people have invested so much in their gear (thanks to ever rising costs).
Good contribution. Thanks for popping in with another non-post. What this thread makes clear is that there are plenty of players on both sides of the issue. Your "we" is only some of the people weighing in here
Haha.. that's awesome..
You of all people talking to others about contributing in a positive fashion.
Seriously.. that's the funniest thing I have read all day, thanks for the laugh super troll.
I think the simple thing (despite people getting upset about silly stuff let alone accidentally poping into the pvp ones and dying) would be lag. I couldnt imagine the issues it would have on the rest of the game.
I love the idea, but yeah: Most STO players get mad that their toon is disco dancing event though it has ZERO effect on their activities or interactions.
These are the same people that report whacky starship names.
Why not, cryptic could dedicate the first 5 instance maps to open world PVP. People would love it. You could have Klingons sneaking around on ESD and Feds on First City. Maybe even dedicat 1 of the Maps to PVP based missions so we could interact with each others worlds.
It could be World vs World 40 man vs. 40 man battles. Everything needed for this is already there. Crptics just needs to remove the faction lock on visiting each others Worlds. I think it would be fun.

And the whole point of the exercise is to weed out people who don't belong there. People who say 'TRIBBLE this' and throw up their hands are learning the truth. Its better that they learn the truth early, than waste hours of their life they won't ever get back, only to learn the truth later and throw up their hands then. Low levels in a pvp game are a trial by fire. People either love it right away or they realize its not for them, and do something they like better.
Believe it or not, I actually agree with this part. The first few hours of a game is the time where people say either "I like this game, I'm gonna keep playing" or "This game is #&$^ I'm done!".
However... Several times I've come back to games I gave up on and actually liked them enough to keep playing, if there were PK'ing *&^&-heads popping my character as I leave the starting city I wouldn't have even bothered returning.
There are few people who care for games like this, not because they are wimply, whiny, (insert insulting pronoun here), but rather because Life is stressful enough and they don't want to play games that add to it.
I, for one, wouldn't bother playing STO if it were a hardcore PvP MMO, I'm not opposed to PvP, I'm actually fairly decent at it, and some games have excellent PvP in them while maintaining great PvE (SWTOR is one; actual objectives in PvP is a big plus), but STO has, shall we say rudimentary PvP, and I don't find it nearly as enjoyable, so I don't bother with it, and don't want it forced upon me when I'm trying to do something else.
I wish they would spin off PVP onto Red Shirt and leave it there like Tribble. Yes clone your charecter onto it and have at it but no bringing stuff over from PVP into PVE. This way PVPer's get there own little world to bash the hell out of each other in but have no effect on the PVE game.
