Is Radiant helpful vs Iconians?

zedbrightlander1zedbrightlander1 Member Posts: 14,764 Arc User
I am just curious if anyone has tried to figure out why some of the new items are Radiant item?

Are the items choices being offered in these Iconian missions our Devs way of saying, "Take a hint guys. These will be important before it's all over."

Or...

Does the one have nothing to do with the first?

Yes and no. Radiant in theory allows ships to tank with their hulls. Where this would be made in best use would be on a Romi ship with a valdore consule and superior operatives. This would allow best use of just general tankieness and dps. So it could be useful against inconians by outlasting and out dpsing. In theory.

Because "Radiant" is the new proc that appears in the iconian rep boxes, so you'll get radiant ground and space weapons with HP procs, so far i've seen quantum torps and DBB's for space along with the usual ground pounder EC credit generating guns :P

If you need 1k more temporary hull on a ship to survive, you're doing STO wrong.

While the space proc does seem underwhelming, I like the ground radiants. Temp HP proc layered with stuff such as the new healing-from-damage trait and Motivation give squishy Tacs quite a bit of survivability. Might be a useful addition for tankier characters as well.

1k might not be useful, but if you have 5 weapons each adding giving 2.5% chance of adding 1k constantly, then it does make a difference. If you're using a low hull escort, it'll make a bigger difference.

As a cruiser with 90k hull, an extra 5-7k is meaningless (if up to 7 beams)
A single hull heal does more than that and is barely used as it is. Frankly the new T2 iconian hull heal trait takes care of all my hull damage needs.

I'll be sticking to my Crtdx4 AP beams for a while longer.

Temporary hull is nice against DOTs like plasma burns. It's also really good to have when trying to activate something like in Borg Disconnected. When you have temp hp you can still rescue the borg while taking damage. It all adds up. 1k temp hp is lame but add in a few more stacking procs, the Pathfinder ship trait, and the temp hp from the pilot tree and it starts to help a bit more.

Where it is really helpful is on the ground weapons. I find the temp HP there is really nice to have.

I found it's helpful when flying really squishy escorts, especially with all the disables the Heralds throw at you. The annoying thing is that the temporary hull buff means that when you do die, it's very sudden and it leaves you like "WTF just happened?"

    well does it stack?

because if it did and they dish out decent DPS thats what 8k+ for hull if your a pure beam cruiser or dreadnaught? thats actually not bad for lighter ships or glass cannons its helpful but still underwhelming, if it doesn't stack then its not really very helpful lol

not to mention its useless for bigger more tank centric ships.

Dunno, but the ground hear works wonders on the Tholians of Nukara Prime... 2-shot one from a flanking position last night wiht a high-density rifle... woot!

Off the top of my head I think it stacks up to 5, so +5k max which really isn't an aweful lot especially for cruisers and dreads.
Considering I'd have to spend a fortune of dil to buy and to upgrade them I'll stick to my red APs.

However the ground weapons are great. Got a spilt rifle from a box with crtdx2 and crth and after getting it to mk14 it's dam friggin awesome.:D

I find my Radiant Pulsewave (a reputation tier 1 box item) great in Elite Bug Hunt. Blast them up close and gain temporary hit-points as they claw and damage you. Enough time for a heal to come online.

Actually it is probably good against an enemy that is damaging you greatly and you need healing but have little or none. The Radiant split beam was disappointing, not much damage and it did not proc often.

    No it doesn't.

Most of the damage that comes at you is piddly little Shield Bleedthrough Damage. Player shields hold up like the Rock of Gibraltar.

And if you DO suffer heavy damage, it's catastrophic damage. It's either going to run into the Several 10K's worth of damage (say, 50k) or LOL-Whatever worth of damage that kills you anyways no matter what.

The temporary HP doesn't mean **** when the higher end, heavy fighting goes on at Advanced, Elite.

This man speaks the truth. We have so many heals, healing procs, healing traits, bonus healing from sets (Kobali set, Borg 2 piece, etc). You can have healing going on without activating any healing abilities. It doesn't matter. The new Iconian Rep T2 space trait for healing while you attack is beyond ridiculous.

Again, with the amount of hull ships get these days, not just Cruisers, the piddly Radiant proc with temporary hull is a rude joke.

The iconian Reputation is heavily geared towards tanking.

The t2 space trait gives you a hull heal on HIT based on the damage you do.
Combined with a console that gives a whooping 20% to hull and shield heals. And 10% more damage.

And weapons that proc temporary hp.
A temp hp proc is like a heal.

So you get heals over heals layered with more heals. Delta rep introduced a non fleet adaptive shield. Undine Rep gave us a trait that procs shield hardness too.

Cryptic is doling out the means for even the, err, dumbest player to stay alive and at least serve as a meat shield.

So, this is more like "Stop dying of stupid!" desperation measure.

    hehe.

    Or not.

    Anyway: i like it.

Really makes it more easy to slowboat at quarter impulse and use some good old DHC on my jemmy dread.

Have to admit, I prefer my Epic MkXIV Quantum Torpedoes over the Radiant version from the Iconian rep.

Just viewing stats: The Advanced Quantum from Iconian Rep is a full 1k less damage than Delta Rep's Neutronic Quantum. The Iconian one has about 1k radiation damage while the Neutronic is about 600. But the Iconian one is a proc chance, 33%. I wonder if anyone took that gamble so far with statistically a very inferior weapon.
