On the subject of oddball ships...

Why not ships that merge styles.

Have the Gorn and Orions start contributing to a new Bird of Prey. Have a BoP 3 pack. 3 tweaked aesthetics that can be mixed and matched.

I'm curious as to where he's getting his information on this. Next to a T6 Bird of Prey its is the most requested ship for KDF and also very highly requested for romulans as well.

It is odd...the way he talked about where they've done all these KDF Science Vessels and they just haven't sold.

    Yeah...uh...

    The Varanus.

Then there were the Advanced Dysons that were basically there with the Fed and Roms.

That's it. The Korath's a Lock Box boat.

Oh wait, the Phalanx and the Draguas? Yeah...nobody bought the Draguas for the AA... /cough

That was just a mind-boggling comment...Hell, even with the Delta Rising launch - all the folks wondering where T6 KDF/Rom Sci boats were...meh.

And omfglol...there's a demand for even more KDF Battlecruisers?

    I need to go smoke...

Awr... Gorn females, if made can't be retroactively applied to existing Gorn D: I don't wanna reroll mine, she's got way too much irreplaceable stuff...

Though I guess if they ever make tech where character bound stuffs and levels can be transferred to fresh characters...

Even if they tripled rewards in these new time gated mash keybind snoozefests, I still wouldn't play them. Pew pew til the timer runs out. Wave after wave of dumb HP sponges, sounds like a patrol to me.

At least in a patrol I don't have the possibility of other players leeching or TRIBBLE up the mission. And I can compete the patrol quickly based on my performance. I think most players have realized this and that's why they don't bother with the queues.

I think the very limited single player means of getting marks is yet another attempt to corral us into new queues. But then they give us Bug Hunt and Kotfez, yet don't add a choice of Iconian marks to DQ patrols. I'm just not sure what they even want us to be playing...

the sales don't seem to bear that out...I guess its one of those things....the buyer says "this is something I really want" and then no one really buys it

And how many kdf science ships have been offered for sale? There were the 3 Gorn science ships and then the dyson fiasco. I own all 3 gorn ships and tried the anniversary dyson (told me enough that it was actually TRIBBLE as a science ship for science characters). I bought the Tholian Orb Weaver as a viable science ship for a KDF sci toon, but that got screwed over with T5U for KDF players who upgraded it when the upgrades came along, 6 months later still no sensor analysis for those of us who did buy it for KDF use. So where are these "sales" numbers you seem to have access to to bear out your logic?

He can't be serious, has he looked in the KDF forums? T6 BOP and T6 Science ship are the two most requested ships by players.

We certainly don't need any more Battlecruisers for the foreseeable future.

Considering the only T5 Science ship (for a long time) was basically a copy and past of the free Federation ship, and the Dyson ships weren't that popular with any faction (how many do you see these days?) due to not being a true science ship, is it any wonder they didn't sell?

There have been multiple suggestions in the KDF Fleet forums about viable possibilities, including my favourite of a refitted old D5 Battlecruiser (ENT) into a full science ship. The demand is there just like a T6 BOP and KDF uniforms, it's a cash cow that Cryptic has failed to take advantage of.

Well it goes to show how disconnected he is with the people/customers who play this game. With people want to RP so much, why is Qo'Nos filled with lock box ships of all kinds? Sure a small minority probably like to RP, but many want a ship that is capable, looks good and works for their class and career.

I have rolled a Delta recruit science KDF, only because I don't have one, which is because there are no viable options. Once she hits 60 she'll probably just become a resource character for the fleet, as what is the point if a science character can't use a science ship? It would be like taking away all the escorts from the Federation, what are their tactical officers supposed to fly?

Yes. Everybody on this side of the wall knows queues are dead because (a) reduced rewards (b) increased failure rate, so anybody with a rational brain figures out do something else that is more productive.

Beatings have failed to boost morale, so beatings will be increased

Yeah I can't believe that's what he gets out of the metrics or whatever it is the devs look at to make decisions, obviously don't read the forums. I used to log on and play the queues almost exclusively. Now I avoid them like the plague. Reason 1 and 2 respectively are the insta-fail "optionals" and reward nerfs that make the time spend not even really worth it if you succeed.

I don't mind balance passes on the games I play. I play a lot of mmo's, but I have never played an mmo that constantly adjusts rewards so often, and with sto it's generally not in the players favor. Shrinking rewards does not make the player base happy. Nor does removing content or pushing them to the content you want them to play. :(

My thing wasn't you guys...it was Al's bit. I don't expect average players to have way too much STO knowledge ready to spill out...but I expect a wee bit more from the lead designer. Sure, he's got a bajillion things on his plate - but it's his day job - his day in and day out job. Expectations are just a wee bit higher. I'd be more ticked off about some of it, but like I told askray in the other thread - I'm still chuckling at Al's comment about the female Gorn. ;)

Most of all I hope no measures are being taken to cut of recourse gain and distribution.

Removing of freighters on new galaxy map was already an ugly lil, hidden nerf and a hit in the face for everybody who wants to build a fleet.

And this is WHY Gekko needs to take a break:

He wants to 'retire' some existing PvE queues so other queues will see more play.
My God, he said anything like that?!?

Seriously? If someone's not playing a PvE Queue either:

    1) They don't find the content fun to play (Retiring other queues won't help here, unless the unplayed queues are the only ones remaining, OR the ONLY way to get a needed Mark, etc.)

    2) Players don't feel the reward is worth the time spent to acquire it.

At least he is considering the other method of IMPROVING rewards or reworking the mechanics of underplayed queues; but sorry, his (seemingly always first) idea of REMOVING CONTENT FROM STO shows why he needs a break from his STO Lead development position. (IMO)

    This is pretty much correct.

Why do players favour 4 year old maps still?!? Hm… hm? Why do peeps still run ISA despite what they twisted it into. Simple, because it is fun contend like the other classic Borg STF. Reason why a lot of other, newer maps are left out are just because they are not fun enough contend to run. Must be quiet an embarrassment for the programmers and it should be. Four years of development and peeps still favour the same old contend and only hit the new one to “play” for their reput and gear before they neer queue up for it again.

If they want to “retire” contend perhaps they should start with Undine Assault, Storming the Spire and The Breach because nobody is queuing up for those.

And if anybody at Cryptic is scratching their head in an hard brainstorming session with their Geko to the reason why I really think this is because players highly dislike miserably time gated missions which are as underrewarding as they can be.

    Eh. Why?

All the abilities probably have different names internally anyway. And when he's playing, he probably has STO Wiki up in a tab. I don't bother learning all the Science/Engineering power names either. I just have STO Wiki up in a tab.

And at meetings, they probably call these things like "Power shift" and "Make it go". Why bother learning "Starship Graviton Generators" if you have five people in a meeting who all refer to it as "Space Knockback" all day, every day? You only ever call it "Graviton Generators" when you're writing a tooltip. And maybe somebody else writes that tooltip.

Have to wonder if that means, with the Skill Revamp bit, if all the Skill bonuses on all the gear, gear set bonuses, and all the rest of those Skill bonuses...if those will be converted to the converted bonuses. Basically instead of the player having to look at +X Starship Some Skill and trying to figure out what it actually provides, if the gear will just come out and say what it provides. Cause even if the player has the gist of what a Skill does - it's another thing to know what it's actually doing for them. That could definitely be interesting - but it does make it out to be a rather huge undertaking. And well, Inspirational Leader comes to mind too...hrmm...how would something like that be handled.

The Doff endgame gives us stuff. It gives experience, it helps you level faster, it gives you crafting materials, special weapons, special space sets (Reman), adds variety to missions, match bonuses, and gives us a crew to interact with. The Doff system has enhanced my STO experience.

I like the current doff system and the individual doffs it creates-this is a positive as it creates unique doffs. I really appreciate the Doff quotes, they make the doffs come alive to me. I'd like to create a special doff or two.

We currently have special card doffs e.g. Graga Mal

The doff system does need work, I'd like to see traits fall into play more during missions so maybe you need to slot that common or uncommon doff because of its traits. Ironically many people may have purged there doff crews of common and uncomon doffs. The profession reward (diplomatic experience) for using a certain doff sounds interesting but I do not want to see the doff system become too monolith, as in one doff gives a certain result. I like variety.

I liked going into the interior of my ship to run doff missions. It was a nice touch.

Regarding queues. Mr. Rivera I am an end game player and I am not playing the queues that I want. I am playing the queues that are giving me resources for crafting or reputation currencies that I want. I'll suggest it again, please give queues like Breaking the Planet or the Gorn mission (I loved the insanity of the massive amount of ships in the old mission) better rewards and reward for time spend in the match and that map may become more popular. Put decent reputation currency awards in the older maps and you may see an uptick in play. I'd like to play Breaking the Planet for 50-70 Iconian marks or 2 Datacore. It is not part of the current story like the Kobali/Vaadwaur/Iconic link but I hope you understand my point.

For the record, Breaking the Planet is content I play in my endgame and set up teams to run because I like it. It is a map where a small group of people can play, itch there trigger finger, and feel powerful, and people like to feel powerful. It is a great way to jump into a match and blow off steam when you just want to shoot something.

Temporarily removing some queues so that others are played is not an idea I support. I'm already herded into running queues I do not like if I want certain crafting supplies, and do not want to pay for them. I suggest dropping in special rewards for special events into queues that you want people to play, like you are doing with crafting.

And also Mr. Rivera, even if I disagree with some of what you say, I appreciate that you talk about upcoming content, development rationale, theroycraft, and the state of STO. Thank you.

Maybe remove really old ones (gorn minefield, big dig, breaking the planet)

I actually like "The Big Dig", but that queue is always empty now. I think the mission suffers from three problems:

    (a) It's a ground mission, and many people hate ground.
    (b) The rewards are probably not enough. Even when the daily bonus is running, not enough people queue for that mission to start it.
    (c) The mission requires 14 or 15 players start. (I can't remember the exact number anymore.)

They can't do anything about (a), but they can do something about (b) and (c). I think (c) is a bigger problem than Cryptic realizes. If a mission requires too many players to start, then most players will start another mission and drop out of the queue before the threshold has been reached. After a while, players will decide that the mission takes too long to start and will stop queuing for it, leading to diminished queue numbers and even longer wait times.

What we can really use are better space traits for boffs. I know some traits are meant to be species-restricted. But why can't my boff take a course at one of the academies to learn to be better pilot or aim those photon torpedoes better?

Does this mean they'll finally fix the bugs? The doff UI was never finished after the last revamp. They released the new UI unfinished onto Holodeck. Then, they fixed about half the bugs and left the rest. Here's a list of bugs that I reported regarding the doff UI.

Holodeck ticket #2,617,572: Close-window and "Cancel" buttons overlap in catalyst window
Holodeck ticket #2,624,484: Truncation and overlap issues in "Roster" tab of doff window
Holodeck ticket #2,625,913: Truncated filter labels in "Request More Duty Officers"

Holodeck ticket #2,746,450: CXP font size too small in "Commendations" tab

Yeah, Phantom sales will go through the roof if the really do it.

Hrmmm...? He mentioned it as a Lock Box thing, akin to how the crossfaction consoles were done. As they have more ships out, some time has passed, folks less likely to be ticked off - more willing to burn keys - etc...tada.

Will have to reach the point where there is something that Feds want from the KDF and Romulans before it happens though...

The Aelahl's Warp Shadow couldn't work.
    There's the Faeht's Tactical Retreat.
The Qib offers Advanced Firing Solutions.
    The Mat'Ha offers Overwhelming Force.

    Feds...well...

    Dauntless - Radiant Nanite Cloud.
    Eclipse - Battle Ready.
    Guardian - Desperate Repairs.
    Pathfinder - Ablative Field Projector.
    Phantom - Reciprocity.
    Scryer - Emitter Synergy.

...and have to figure as boats come out, there are simply going to be more Fed boats and more Fed boats compared to KDF/Rom.

So with anything decent the KDF/Rom might offer up to the Feds, doesn't necessarily mean the KDF/Rom will get anything decent in return...been more than a few console exchanges that worked that way...meh.

But the 3packs and 3/9packs offer the same traits, so those don't really come into play either. The Pilot boats we saw hints of in the Delta Flight mission would likely be another 3pack thing...KDF, Rom, Fed - like the Negh'Tev, D'Khellra, and Andromeda.

Probably going to be a wee while until we see any Trait-Trades...

If there are too many queues, the avaialble players will split up across them. Not giving enough rewards can be a problme, or not being fun to play, but if all of them were equalyl rewarding and equally fun, if there are 20 queues, then queue wait times go up.

It is kinda better that there are currently a few select queues people prefer, at least that keeps them busy and the wait times for them short, even if it means others are seemingly impossible to play.

For me the reason to dislike removing queues is more that it also removes some story. It would be neat if "retired" queues are turned into single player missions (maybe with alterations).

the problem is not the prices, but how many lobi, you can earn in each box. if i want a small item, why i would open x boxes with the "futile" hope of earning quickly the needed lobi; Put this small item in the c-store, and i'm going to buy it.

example: i missed the kobali clothes

    - put them in the c-store for 10€/$; i'm going to buy them
    - put them in the lobi store, i'm not going to buy them (too many boxes to open for the lobi crystals)

i don't like the gambling which comes with the boxes. oh! i tried to open these stupid boxes, but now it's over; the amount of real money needed for having a good thing from these boxes, is too important.

this is why cryptic loves these boxes; it is a reliable source of profits.

About, queues being removed. this could be a good idea. ISA, KVA and more are old now, they should be replaced; others can be simply removed, nobody will see the difference.

LOL what?! Replaced with what? Something like undine assault or storming the spire? Is this some sort of joke on your part?
