Total Game Revamp

Hello,

I'm STO player who has been playing off and on since the game was released, oh so many years ago. Since that time I have seen this game come quite a long way in the right direction, I could literally write a few pages on how much better STO has become, but that's not what i'm here about... I've been on the forums reading people's comments for the last few years, just because I was curios about how others felt about the game, and it' led me to conclude just one thing.

This game NEEDS a major overhual.

I'm not hating on the Dev when I say this, in my opinion they have worked true magic in the improvements they have made to bring this game up to snuff, but the problem is not what they have done SINCE release, but that the game they released with was so messed up that they've been fighting an uphill battle JUST to keep up since day one.

Most of the players in the comments have mentioned som of the problems in one form or another, Ground combat as a whole has never been very good in almost any area. Ships from game release that have never received a graphical revamp, and are now noticeably shabby compared to post Legacy of Romulus material. Interior maps from release that are HIDEOUS in comparison to the material from after Legacy's release. All the old bridges PERIOD. AI pathing on the ground needs serious work, and interior scaling (gigantic interiors anyone?).

Cryptic has danced around these issues for the last few years, saying that it take MILLIONS of dollars to correct these problems and they are RIGHT. BUT, my argument s that this game as it was released, with the problems it had, the mess it had to overcome, should have DIED in a year. But here we are, over 5 years later still going. NOT because Cryptic kept it going, but because we the PLAYERS and our love of star trek did. When the company saw that eve as broke as the game was at launch, that people kept on playing then they invested on keeping it going, because we were still spending cash on it.

This is why I think A full game revamp is called for. The devs have such improvements to parts of this game that anything that has not been revamped is distractingly bad, to the point that I would PAY to see them fixed, and I feel i'm not alone is this.

I think most people would pay for new bridges and interiors cross faction, not just Romulan, but Cryptic is insistent that it's not worth there time and money to give us players what we want. I know that they have a long list of things that need updated, fixed, and revamped, not to mention the constant need for new content on top of it, but this game still needs an almost total overhaul in my opinion. The old maps NEEDS updated, old bridges NEED updated, old ship moels NEED updated, ground combat NEEDS revamped, sector space now makes the space combat zones look dated, and the Klingon and Romulan fleet need more ships, AND interiors. It doesn't help attract new players to a game when half it feels... unfinished or half broken. Fully modernizing and revamping the game as a whole, would serve to attract new players and keep them as well. And adding systems that the players have been clamoring 5 years for might help as well.

Looking to keep this game going with ship packs is a short sighted way to keep STO alive in the long term, it needs changes from the foundation that fix it's core problem rather than dangling new ships in front of players to keep them distracted. When Legacy of Romulus came out, Cryptic asked for 120 dollars for the Rom starter pack... That costs the same as 2 modern video games more or less... For a fully revamped STO I would pay that much... AND I think most others would as well, and not only old players but new ones as well.

No, an overhaul will never happen. They have, at the very least, a couple more years to milk. People will keep buying, I'll keep playing.

Then maybe CBS will authorize STO 2. Maybe PWE will give Cryptic some free reign. Maybe the devs well get all ambitious and make an entirely new game engine. Maybe they'll balance everything all while developing all factions equally.

And maybe the Celestial Teapot will finally come to provide soothing deliverance to the non-believers...

This game reminds me of SWG, where things just did not work. Certain skills simply didn't do anything, others were most broken, and some were totally worthless.

But in SWG you did not have missions, or PVE STFs or anything like that, so there was little there to begin with.

I log in, do a few Borg Alerts hoping that the mobs actually spawn (and we all know a lot of times they do not) and when you do get 4/4 you hope that the main boss ship spawns....and that is often times not the case.

Queue up for a PVE STF....once again, you hope the thing actually works and some of these Herald missions simply do not work.

Deal with the various connection issues and rubber banding and whatever, just trying to do some content that actually works.

Then there are the skills that are either mislabeled, dont work, confusing, or totally worthless...and each class has a whole lot of skills like that.

This is a bad game. The foundation is bad, always has been. PWE took over a bad and failed game.

If you play Neverwinter, you immediately see the difference and what PWE is trying to create. That game works. Everything does what they want it to do. They created that game from scratch, unlike STO which they took over when it tanked into oblivion.

It's sad that a great IP is being held back by this...whatever you wanna call it. I am not really sure they can even fix the game at this point. They just release new stuff, hope it works and if it does not...well, just release something else a couple of months later.

There are still bizarre bugs and bad coding from the very first day of this game....and THAT is exactly what SWG had up until they day the pulled the plug on it.

Some day, they will pull the plug on this game and it will be a good day....not because the game is finally dead but because maybe they will actually try to make another star trek MMO.

Cause this one simply does not work.
