outfitting phantom or defiant-R. all turrets? the can the Omni be used in conjunction with FAW/BO? the bio-molecular heavy turret/hydro comp/enhanced bio photon/energy relay worth while?
Used the console combo for a while: there are multiple threads in the past that says to ditch the console-combo for the Spire Tac consoles. The combined bonuses from the combo do not surpass what Spire gives AND takes two slots (one being a precious Tactical).
When I changed to all beams then I changed out my combo for straight Tac consoles. Although I did feel like a "maverick" for going against the grain. I'd like to think that if I went back to using torpedoes, then I'd use the combo again because I'd get a boost to torp damage and beam damage at the cost of one Tac slot.
Well on one hand if you're running all cannons anyways, a turret may have less punch but will use your skills. On the other an Omni on its own works nicely with Overload, especially if you're running a Defiant and have that extra ensign tac to use anyways. There's also the option for running DBBs in the front, but that really works best with AP anyways since you can run 2 omnis and the KCB. Largely I guess it depends on the rest of your ship.
Use the turret only if you need an extra set item to get the 2 set +phaser damage if thats what you are using. Its a large boost you cant get anywhere else for phasers. If you do not need it for the 2 set and are not using the radiation beam/bio torp the other bonuses are not a big deal to loose.
If you are running bio weapons/torp then set 2 is still all you need. The turret barrage/Degenerative Wave Signature is not worth it unless you were going to get it anyway. Only think i have used it for was a replacement for BFAW on a cannon ship to remove mines/torps
I run it with the console to get the 2 set bonus on a defiant. I use crafted phasers.
I'm in the whale of the Bortasqu' myself using the Biomolecular set and I like using the heavy disruptor turret in the back. Just fly into a crowd, activate the disruptor barrage + tholian rep power + disruptor point defense and watch everything explode.
The 8472 heavy biomolecular phaser/disruptor turrets aren't your typical turrets. Their damage value x2 of a regular turret and is effectively a Single Cannon with 360 degree arc. If you're going on a ship using lots of Cannon abilities, the heavy BM turrets are very well worth a look.
I'd say if slotting the heavy turret lets you get the 2pc set bonus then it is absolutely worth it, that bonus damage works out almost as much as a spire tac console on some builds.
I find it combined with the bio-photon torp and the multi-energy relay you are getting the most out of that set, bonus phaser damage, extra photon damage plus the turret barrage is ok in some situations.
However.....if you are using a Phantom I find all beams works far better. You've got Reciprocity which relies on a high defense so people miss you more often, that means full throttle and that makes using cannons more complicated. Beams allows you to have wider arcs and keep more targets in your arcs, even with DBB's. Plus with things like antiproton you can slot 2 omins anyway for this pretty much keeps all your guns facing forwards anyway, no need for turrets.
If you use the Heavy Turret and Hydrodynamic compensater you could use that for the 2 set bonus and not have to lose a tactical console but even with that is is stronger than a beam? also considering you can use that slot for another console like the new console from Iconion which can give 10+ % dmg depending on how much its upgraded.

CC Torp < Delta Torp, from what I've read.
Good luck!

That's what CRF/CSV is for
Edit: Not to mention the Heavy BM Turrets are part of a set that can grant a nice bonus to Phasers/Disruptors.
