all i know is everything hinged on me NOT enlarging the window once i had the launcher in safe mode and launched. i had to leave that window as it was in order to get into the game and to the place where i could change the display to directx 9ex. once that was done, i could enlarge the game window to full screen and everything ran fine after that. if i enlarged that original game window before changing the display to directx 9ex it would crash

this bit is vital . If you maximize window any time sooner , the work-around ( because that's wat it is , it sn't any fix ) will not work ...

So are we gonna get an official statement about the lags or what? My guess ist that Cryptic doesn't have enough computing power nor bandwith. Itz all about the money.

We've had several statements on this subject via Trendy. Their networking team is looking into it. However since this is an uneven occurrence (some people get it, some don't, some worse than others, some with different effects) it's likely difficult to pin down, highly unlikely to be something as simple as a server-side issue, and may well be an ISP level issue (either with Cogent or between them and some of the other providers between them and the affected customers) that Cryptic has a lot less control over. If this is Cogent or Verizon or Comcast doing some throttling, for instance, all they can really do is ask nicely and expect to get laughed at.

I understand it could be difficult, I understand it could be outside Cryptics reach and whatnot. I don't know how long you have experienced lags but the timeframe I do is redicoulous. And theres no statement about it whut causes it other than "we're investigating" and even this statement came way too late. I've played alotta games and I have never seen anything like this not beeing fixed in a reasonable time.

I did send tracerts pathpings tickets and so even helped other people. But I'd really like to know whut is going on. And don't give me DDOS, if itz DDOS and the unuasal traffic amount wouldn't have been realised over such a Long time, I mean c'mon.

To my knowledge the only time a DDOS attack was brought up was during that lag spike the other night. I certainly never mentioned it and I don't know of anyone ever bringing it up with regard to the ongoing problem.

Haven't been able to log in since the Season 10 patch. Tried all the workwarounds I could find. Gets to the Iconian War screen and crashes out.

Just hoping someone at Cryptic will figure it out. Soon

Update 2: Was able to log in and actually play (using safe mode and NOT full screen to start). Crashed leaving ESD after switching ships. Progress, but still buggered. 1020 CST 4/26/2015

    Official statement.....Star Trek Online, a perfect advertisement for SWTOR/EVE Online/DnD Online/Secret World.

Because I've always had problems with this game loading and crashing. I actually expect it NOT to work more than I expect to play it.

I've got a number of fleeties who are having issues post Season 10. We're players with disposable income, and frankly, it's getting to the point where we're just going to take that income elsewhere. We can't spend money on a game we can't even play.

I can't manage my guild effectively if I can't even open the ****ing guild management window. Every time I hit that particular button, the game crashes right to desk top. What kind of craziness is that?

Trendy, I love working with you behind the scenes. This isn't directed at you. Cryptic, fix your ****.

I can log in after 2-3 attempts, but honestly it's no better. The amount of in-game lag is so bad I can't even play a 10 minute fleet alert without rubberbanding or having my galaxy class starship twerking like an epileptic on magic mushrooms at a rave.

EDIT: Sunday April 26th. Just tried again to play one of the queues and again major lag. I'm seriously done now. done. I've been playing STO since the 1st anniversary, over 3000 hours in total (according to steam), I'm a lifer, I've financially supported this game multiple time with purchases. I'm seriously annoyed. This has been going on for weeks and no fix at all. Final straw was flying all over the map exploding. This doesn't happen with other MMOs I play (and if it is, its remedied very quickly) and I'll be damned if I'm wasting another second on this game hoping for a fun experience.

I'll ATTEMPT to log back in when I hear that this TRIBBLE has been dealt with. Not before.

Sort it out cryptic. Don't just give us a silence or a paltry response.

C'mon guys, this needs to get fixed. Just logged in, and had to close out of the game after joining a que because the lag was unplayable. Now I can't even log in. My internet connection and computer are fine.

fwiw, it looks like the problem i was having is fixed. used to crash after the loader and before getting to the character select screen with that directx error message, now i just tried starting up normally (via steam) and no problems

well except that for some reason starting thru steam doesnt retain my game password so i have to type that in every time, whereas arc used to fill that in for me. but if thats the price to get off arc then so be it

I'm currently hitting the "Direct 3D fatal error" wall again. I can load the launcher and get up to the cryptic loading screen, but I reach the Iconian War screen (Just before character selection) and Bam, program autokills and I get the cryptic error reporter pop up.

I've also noticed that every time the Iconian War screen comes up, STO runs my CPU usages up to anywhere from 60% to 99%, (It's a 1.80GHz, duel core) not sure when it plans to settle down again but I've tried three or four times in the last hour and I've not been able to get in yet. I'll keep trying. As a side note, I'm using Steam's STO Launcher and always have done.

Glad it worked for you. I tried via steam after reading your post and it isn't working for me.

I have other things to do right now, so I guess I'll have to wait and see if it ever gets fixed. Which may be some time since I'm losing interest in this pretty fast.

I think the DirectX problem is just something we have to try and force our way past. It'll keep cropping up until they fix it, but, hopefully, we can get past it if we keep trying. I just wish we knew why it keeps happening :/

for those with the direct 3d error, thats graphics

if you have an nvidia card, look under options>graphics(?) for the new nvidia option.

one of my friends had that problem.
also rather than checking here, have a look in the 3 bug sections, theres a lot of posts and a lot of answers, some of which are now on page 2 due to new problmes.

Fortunately I can get into Neverwinter with no problems and the Cryptic launcher there is the same version as STO's. I have looked at the bug fixes chaelik and I have tried some that don't work for me and refuse to do others. The fix for the launcher crashing should be a priority with the STO's development team. I feel like I wasted my time making a Delta Recruit and my three other characters.

As it stands right now, for me, since Delta Rising the fun in STO is being sucked out of it and I am now thinking twice about playing or investing in any Cryptic game.

If you have to choose which game to subscribe to pay for SWTOR and play STO for free. At least SWTOR works, looks better and they get on top of things when theres a problem like this.

However, this isn't my real problem. It may take a few mins for the patchserver but the real problem is in the game. It takes 2 to 3 minutes for a single button press. I was trying to finish 2 DOFF missions and 4 development projects. I go through the 4 and 1 DOFF and that was it for 15 mins of effort. It should take that long for the server to respond to a button press. The most common message I see if Waiting on Server. The biggest number I see is not damage or health or dilithium, it's the number of seconds waiting on the server.

They should shutdown the server until the problem is fixed, that way it at least prevents people from being frustrated. This game is unplayable until the lag issue is fixed. Getting tracerts and IP addresses is just busy work for the customer base. They need to address the problem of bandwidth, memory, number of servers, etc.

What the hell did you people do this time? Another week, another launcher patch error. You just got the one from a couple weeks ago fixed for f*ck's sake! Not only that, but I had to put in a pin code, because for some reason, the computer I've been logging into the game/website with for the last two months, IS A NEW COMPUTER!?!? I don't..... I can't.... WHAT THE HELL!?!?!?

No. There are multiple problems causing similar symptoms. Whichever co!bination was affecting you has stopped. Cogent are still a$$h@ts, complex powers are still causing the server hampsters to choke, other people's isps have bad routes to the servers, crowds still log in in spikes not evenly spread out, cryptic database is Still an abomination... God only knows what is up with the hardware...
