Ability to skip mini movies/cut scenes?

guidopolisguidopolis Member Posts: 6 Arc User
I am curious as to why we can not skip mini movies/cut scenes. As a Lifetime subscriber, I have multiple alts, along with probably about 90% of the STO community. Don't get me wrong, the mini movies/cut scenes are great and well done and the Devs did a awesome job with them and I have enjoyed them. But I don't think it is right that I have to watch long mini movies every time I want to make a new alt. With the introduction of the Delta Recruit system, I made new alts and was forced to watch cut scenes I have seen over 20 times at least (one of the longest being in Boldly They Rode :( ).
I remember when it was possible to skip the mini movies/cut scenes by pressing the space bar, but they took it away. Some might argue that it was to keep from exploiting, but I don't see how.
I do have a suggestion for the Devs. Make the ability to skip cut scenes a Gold Membership/Lifetime subscription bonus. I, as a Lifetime subscriber, feel i have paid for the game and should have the ability to skip through mini movies/cut scenes. Other games and MMO's let you and I know the ability to do so is possible because STO used to let us.
Hopefully something will come out of this mini-rant. As an avid player, I would love to see this change so I am not finding myself bored with mini movies and cut scenes I have seen multiple times.
Thank you.

It works on some but not all.

Lifetime no longer gives a forum title. That should be updated on the Lifetime page that mentions what you get. PMing the CSR doesn't work neither.

Only a few can be skipped, which is funny since in SW TOR, you can space bar the whole damn game. And this game should be quite famous for space bar by now.

Used to be able to esc skip all cutscenes in game until about 6 months back when the powers that be decided that people were skipping briefings too often and thereby nerfed that button completely arbitrarily.
Meh, not a huge deal. It's just annoying when you get a really awkwardly done cutscene with iffy writing, hit-and-miss vo performances and squiffy animations that really don't fit the scene very well.
    I need a beer.

It's just frustrating because when I get a captain leveled up, maxed out on everything, and have played through all the story arcs, sometimes I want to play another alt through. I think alot of the lower missions are fun and the game on a whole is good for Star Trek fans. I just don't want to watch these overly long cut scenes again and again. Especially the ones in the Dominion story arc. Second wave has 2 VERY long mini movies that make me want to punch myself rather than watch them. I end up debating to myself to play STO or something else because I can not stand sitting through these scenes. Like I stated before, a good compromise would be to make the ability to skip them a Gold membership/Lifetime Subscription perk.

It's just like those annoying popups of the planetary system you are approaching or flying by.

They want to you to appreciate their work and the players love it.

Couldn't agree more, my bug bear is the one in doomsday device, if I have to hear that Klingon sing as he flies the shuttle to his death one more time I will scream!

I guess beauty is in the eye of the beholder. That scene, for me at least, is the best thing evaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!! You see the klingon heart at its greatest peak, the warrior's honor in sacrifice for the empire.

Oh I agree it is a great cutscene, but after having to sit through it on 15 delta recruits without being able to skip it ends up turning your brain to mush

I brought the escape up numerous times, especially for the earlier arcs.
I spend 1/3rd my time being bugged by intrusions from anywhere, quite an annoyance, really, but not deadly yet.
Thank the (Borg) Queen for that...

I totally forgot about the Doomsday's long mini movie. The song was cool the first 2-3 times I heard it. Now it is quite nauseating.

many of the cutscenes can be sipped by pressing the Esc key however I guess there are some that they don't want you to skip so you just have to watch them or take the opportunity to make a cuppa or snack.

When I think about everything we've been through together,

maybe it's not the destination that matters, maybe it's the journey,

and if that journey takes a little longer,

so we can do something we all believe in,

I can't think of any place I'd rather be or any people I'd rather be with.
