e.g., an unknown nebula or comet which when scanned offers mats. Can we get these as Foundry doors?
Even better. With the added space between systems designate some of that open space as a door. Then, give us an option to create Foundry missions with the ability to select an unknown object as the presented image in sector space for that mission (e.g., nebula, comet, anomaly), sync it with the top 3 system and viola - flying through a random sector of space my scanners pick up an interesting comet in the distance. As I approach it it turns out to be a foundry mission. And I get some mats out of it.
Well... they aren't permanent map objects. Not sure how you'd use a transient object for a foundry door.
Well, you would need to create a permanent map object in an empty part of space but without an image. Or at least empty with a pointer to another image. For each Foundry mission selected at random an image is pulled and used. But the door would always be there.
not sure how implementation could be done, but i would like to get something along the lines of a Subspace anomaly or similar spacial anomaly that can be used as a door

at present, there are no mechanics to present anything randomly appearing in sector space for cryptic, let alone for us.
Ive often thought that there should be something like this in existence, but at the same time there is the fear that it would be something like the exploration cluster missions, which means kinda lame and half way implemented.
The trouble with making it a foundry door would be that its not static on the map, which means that it would not necessarily show up, which is to the detriment of the author that writes for it. Additionally if this node isnt static, you have to make sure that the author writes the mission in such a way that it could show up at any location on the map, which isnt always the easiest thing to do.
Sadly, it sounds like an awful lot of work just to implement *sigh*

The idea would be have an actual static door. Just one whose image is set to null (e.g., change earths image to a cow. It's still "earth" but in theory you could set the image to whatever you want). So the location would always be the same. While building a Foundry mission, if you have chosen a door which begins on an anomaly, then you select from a list of prebuilt images (a nebula, comet, etc.). When the top 3 system initiates selection of a mission its chooses the first mission and pulls the selected image. When you finish the mission or when the missions refresh another image is selected.
