  Is anyone else annoyed by this?

  Most likely this was done to reduce lag. Fewer people per instance means less drag on each instance, sounds like a good thing to me.

  Well true if instances get empty the feeling gets odd, but if this indeed is done to reduce lag I think its ok.

  I'd much rather have a bit more lag than ESD feel like a void.

  I only go to ESD when I need to get deeply insightful comments on politics and a whole range of topics which ESD dwellers are highly educated in.

  ESD WAS fun as a social zone, but the chat is horrid.
  I usually have it turned off anyways..

  STO is about my Liberated Borg Federation Captain with his Breen 1st Officer, Jem'Hadar Tactical Officer, Liberated Borg Engineering Officer, Android Ops Officer, Photonic Science Officer, Gorn Science Officer, and Reman Medical Officer jumping into their Jem'Hadar Carrier and flying off to do missions for the new Romulan Empire. But for some players allowing a T5 Connie to be used breaks the canon in the game.

  If by "fun social zone" you meant "party amplifier spam and through the roof lag", then yeah, I agree.
  
  I'd rather have less lag than more inane 9-year-olds spamming sparkly effects.
