Shields that change the look of your ship

I put on the Reman Prototype Covariant Shield Array and it change the color and look of my Fed ship.

At first, I was like "what just happened to my ship?" Then I thought it was just a weird glitch and if I logged out and back in again, it'll fix itself. Eventually, I made it to the wiki.

How many other Shields are there that change the look of a ship?

Most of the shields that are part of a set (reputation or mission reward like the Breen set) can change the look of the ship. But it's very easy to get rid of that visual effect : right click on the shield, and hit "disable visuals" (or something like that, i am not logged, don't remember the exact sentence).

I like the effect of the Reman shields. I have been contemplating about upgrading them to Mk XIV for a couple of my captains.

It's weird the day I found it, I spotted a whole bunch of other Fed ship with the same coloring. I really thought it was a massive glitch. Or an Iconian infection.

But I can see why people think it neat. In fact, the Devs could make all kinds and all colors and put them in the Z store. I can even see someone putting down real cash to make a Kobali Cruise look like the Partridge Family bus. :D

I really do wish they would make the shield textures overlay unlocks in the tailor.

I mean seriously, we keep getting new costume cosmetics with every new reputation, why not new ship cosmetics?

I totally agree the skins should be there instead of attached to item at this point. It's not going to hurt pvp that much if they can't see what shield your using. with so many different ones that have no visuals

I totally agree with both of you. The ship textures should become tailor unlocks for grinding the whole set. Equipping would still enable the visuals, but by grinding the whole set, it would allow those same visuals to be used WITHOUT equipping the set.

I love the Reman shield look, a close second i like the Breen, one is sleek the other is rugged.

I was in my "customize" my ship on my Romulan toon and there is an optiojn to buy the "reman" look for all your romulan watbirds-- That made me think why are these skins not unlock-able from the events that give you the shields?

      Welcome to Space Barbie ;)

Not all shields have a new effect - but most do. Some players will post videos shortly after the release of a new ship to show off all of the styles.

I'm sure your DPS is great, but as Kahless said, "a petaQ with high system mastery is still a petaQ." (Well, he should have said it...!)

Ya,the dude who makes STOunrefined has all the rep sets and shows off the ship with the full set active. Some long videos as he discusses the ship details before flying into space but overall they are a good resource.

To answer the OP's question, the following shields have visual effects:

      Crafted:
      Aegis - "TRON" lines

      Omega Force Reputation:
Assimilated - portions of the hull look assimilated
MACO - portions of the hull have a "shiny armor" look
Omega - portions of the hull look armored
Honor Guard - hull is armored/gray, with nacelle and accents having an orange-ish look

      Romulan Reputation:
Romulan - portions of the hull are green, with lighter green accents
Reman - same as the shield reward from Colosseum (the stats are simply better)

      Nukara Strikeforce Reputation:
Tholian - blue hull, yellow nacelle accents (looks like a Tholian ship)

      Dyson:
Dyson - gray dyson-patterned hull, purple nacelle accents

      8472 Reputation:
Undine - green nacelles and accents

      Delta Reputation:
Delta - light blue nacelles and accents (not exactly sure on the color here, as I don't have the set myself)

      Iconian Reputation:
Iconian Resistance - rounded red "armor" covering portions of the hull

      Non-rep mission rewards:
Dominion - purple hull and nacelle accents (looks like a Dominion ship)
Breen - gray metallic hull, light green nacelle accents

There may be more, but those are the ones I know of at present.

You have 500+ posts. I'd have thought you'd have run across this before now! :D
Sometimes I think I play STO just to have something to complain about on the forums.

Not me. I mostly post nonsense. :D

Actually, those 500 post means that I'm too much of a Forumite and not enough of a gamer. Which is why I have so many gaps in my STO knowledge. :o

In most lighting, your ship will tend to appear golden metallic, while in darker lighting, it will appear steely metallic - blue steel metallic but, what is really cool about the shield array, is the visual effect of being hit.

Gives off a wicked green shield visualization effect, instead of the standard light bluish-white.

It should also be noted that the Veteran ship skin also has visuals. Looks similar to the Aegis on Federation ships, but with darker blue/purple lines. :)

Looking at this particular image sparks a memory of my old D&D days.

One on my friend's got truly skilled at painting those tiny lead miniatures. He made one entire set of armored and helmeted soldiers all copper with emerald trim. He even made the eye slits in the helmets emerald. The effect made it look as if their eyes were glowing behind those helmets. We all marveled at his skill.

This was a major step up, because the early days of D&D all the soldiers were painted solidly black with a touch of red on the blades as if to demonstrate the blades had been used recently.

Yup, the copper and green had been a huge leap forward. This, the details in that ship overlay, now makes me wonder if one or more of our devs ever painted a set of lead miniatures. Either way, their are some skilled artist employed at Cryptic. :)

Edit - I wanted to see what Samsar looks like Ramenized.

With the side horns/wings on the nose enabled, looks kind of like some insane demonic face.

That's why one of my toons named their Samsar "War Demon"
