So I kinda fudged up my mains specialization. Is it possible to respec the points I've spent in them? I don't want to use one of my Respec tokens if it doesn't effect the specialization.
no, once a speacialization point is spent, that's it. respec doesn't affect speacializations either....if you've changed your mind about which primary you'll just have to earn more points as you can earn as many as you want
There is no current way to reset spec points. Respect tokens do not acffect anything other than your skill tree. Devs don't plan on letting us reset specs anytime soon because you can "eventually" earn enough points to fill every tree.
Since you can't technically lock yourself out of anything, how many ever points available are how many points you can earn - you can't make a lasting mistake - unlike with skill points, where you've only got the 366k but there are far more than 366k that could be spent.
Thanks guys. I've been away from the game a while as I've been without a usable PC so I'm not fully up to date with everything after Delta Rising. Didn't know that you kept earning skill points.
Would you beliueve that there are MMOs out there, offering free on-the-fly respecs any time you like?

"No. Men do not roar. Women roar. Then they hurl heavy objects... and claw at you." -Worf, son of Mogh

There's long term goals and then there's long term goals with short times to achieve them in before the next long term goal supersedes it with no try before you buy or knowing what's coming next.
This is my Risian Corvette. There are many like it, but this one is mine.
- I think spec points make more sense than skill points and are more accessible.
- I'd favor eliminating skillpoints entirely. Make the leveling numeric "experience points" like most MMOs, which makes things like XP boosts more intuitive. Get rid of the skill trees and turn them into specializations, some which might be profession-locked. Issue people spec points based on their level.
You start with your profession specialization as the only one accessible until level 20. (You can access other specializations once your profession secondary is maxed out.) From Commander on, you can start working on alternate specializations. More canon. More accessible.
Existing players at 60 would start off with their profession-exclusive specialization maxed out and get 30 spec points refunded to spend as they choose (1 per level added from 20-50).
Incidentally, I noticed that it seems like I can equip starship traits on lower tier ships so I might also suggest adding simplified mastery and traits to ALL C-Store ships at some point.

That may be a bug. Starship trait have been said to be intended to function for t5u and t6 only.
Which doesn't in any way mean your idea is a bad one. Just, you might have found a bug. I actually think it's a great idea.
And those MMOs have skill trees that are impossible to fill completely up. Unlike spec points where you can get everything.
Fumdamentally different systems.
To be fair, any mmo that introduces/changes a character's build/template what have you set up, they usually included a free respect to allow for the changes done from said skills, the idea that you can just earn it all in this game is a slippery slope for an argument.
In games such as Eq/eq2 SWTOR, DCUO to name a few, every time they made a major change to a class skill set, they gave a free respec to the person, and, we even had that in this game at one point, when we changed the skill tree the first time we all received a free respec to the skills, this I do believe was before we could just earn/buy the respecs.
If a product changes, such as in this case where Pilot is now becoming a primary, it is not unreasonable to actually give the customers 1 free respec of this system, it wont break their bank since they don't offer it as a purchasable item to begin with.

Any sane person would just respec a spec they aren't using to the new one. It'd kill the metrics.

If they changed the numbers on the existing pilot abilities, then I agree any points spent in pilot should be refunded.
But I do agree with gecko (shudder), they specifically do not want to release a new spec and have people reapec and max it, then be all, "bored now, when do we get something new?"

grind more if you want more points to spend, this is how this game works and it is the vision they have.

According to Trendy, 'metrics' are a meme. The metrics support that notion. :P
