I can't link the source but the next lockbox looks to be kind of a "part 2" of a past lockbox. Same faction but new ships and when I say new I mean "new" new not t6 bugship/galaxy/etc new
So maybe not the next lockbox, but the lockbox after that. Hopefully, it is the closest to Iconian ships that we will ever get.
This is cryptic we're talking about here, the people who put flyable UNDINE ships in a lockbox. Tholian ships were a stretch but Undine was just over the edge of believability. After that I wouldn't count anything out.

Didn't mind the Undine ships if they gave a reasonable explanation for why we would get Undine ships like Undine ships are actually enslaved by the Undine and they are letting us fly them because we treat them as free individuals. Instead we get some lousy reason.

Why?
Breen have Organic ships and Gantu from the Next generation was a Space faring Biological organism that had an Interior that supported a crew what is so unbelievable that Undine ships could be manned by a humanoid crew?

I love how people complain about the 'believable' when it comes to science fiction, Star Trek related especially, since Star Trek has such a laughable history when it comes to the 'believable'...
Transforming into a space frog from traveling beyond Warp 10 anyone? What about a retrovirus turning people into random creatures millions of years into the person's evolutionary history - even arachnid like creatures when humans could not be much further removed from insects...
There are far more examples of the 'unbelievable' in Star Trek canon, than simply flying an organic based vessel in STO...
You don't like that Undine ships were released, that's fine... I'll be pissed if (when) Borg ships are made playable... Believability has nothing to do with it, it's a matter of personal opinion...
In all truth, anything that involves an interactive interface could theoretically be retrofitted to be controllable by humans - this has been a common thread within Science Fiction since pretty much forever and not unique to STO...

LOL, it's already preposterous seeing members of Starfleet, the KDF, Romulan Republic Navy flying ships not from their faction!
The Species 8472 ships were a major, major Jump the Shark moment. I wouldn't put it past Cryptic to have playable Iconian and Borg ships sometime soon.

Not denying any of this, though it is not uncommon in human history to recover, retrofit and rename enemy vessels, thus upto a point, I can indeed live with ships from rival factions being flown... Even today, ships are bought and construction contracted from other nations, before those ships are simply rechristened and launched under the new owner's flag...
It would only make sense, that if an enemy ship is salvageable, that it be recovered, refitted and relaunched if at all possible, as it requires far less resources and effort to repair and refit a captured vessel, than to build a new one from scratch...
In fact, this too is a common theme throughout science fiction, even within Star Trek canon...
Again, simply because some people don't like seeing it, does not mean it's any less plausible or believable - it's purely opinion and personal preference...
Having said that, along with my dislike of the notion of flying Borg vessels, I agree the Undine were a stretch as well... I was merely making the point that even an organic based vessel could indeed be theoretically retrofit for human use, provided there was some form of interactive control interface...
I am just glad that Cryptic hasn't done Cross - faction lockboxes yet. Just imagine the horror of a Klingon commanding a Galaxy or a Human flying a Bird of Prey. Kirk is exempt from this monstrosity because he is Kirk.

Well, we ARE essentially the Kirk of the current era in STO, and we also got to fly a B'Rel fedside in the doomsday machine mission, but like Kirk too, we didn't get to keep it. So I guess that makes our captains about even there with him.

I don't think anyone asked for this particular "part 2" lockbox though. Maybe Cryptic is running out of ideas.

I imagine they dug up some old designs that looked epic and needed a way to put them in-game seamlessishly.
