Im annoyed by my away team's lack of smarts. More often than not, at least one of the away team members crosses and stops in my line of fire disabling my ability to fire in ground combat. Where it becomes really irritating is when in the middle of a fire fight in a zoomed/crouched position.
I love when you give them sweeping strikes 3 and remove ALL weapons they will still attack with the bare hand strike and only sweeping strikes occassionally!
Shooter mode in this game has the possibility (very high) of missing the target, RPG mode does not. Only reason to ever use shooter mode is to decloak a target or to lead a target on a a grenade throw. In every other situation you are severely reducing your effectiveness.
BOFFs in ground combat tend to be borderline useless. Let's say you set up a nice bunker with shield/medical gens and turrets and maybe pop an ability like overwatch -- once you open fire your BOFFs go running off towards the enemy. Or you give them consumables -- energy cells are the worst -- just standing around in a ground zone your BOFFs will pop them off like candy until they are out. In the middle of a fight and what do your BOFFs do -- randomly fire off abilities that may or may not be situationally appropriate, stand there think about things and maybe just maybe they'll fire their weapon.
yep, all good comments, but i was speaking to the "stupidity" of the Boffs themselves for walking into the line of fire. I just think it worth investing time in improving the away team's AI.

How? The hit boxes on NPCs are huge - they are literally almost impossible to miss. Not to mention the reticule lights up bright red when you're on target. No red, no click. Red? Click. Pretty simple...

I don't know. Game npc AI is often buggy.
Dragon Age you line up a nice AOE spell to finish off enemies and all of your people loaded out with bows charge to melee so they can and will be caught in the blast.
Mass Effect line up and shoot something with a sniper rifle. Not only do enemy npc's turn and open fire with regular rifles that can't hit you. Your own team will open fire hand guns ignoring things like range or the bloody wall in their way.
The jumping into the line of fire seems relatively normal to me anymore. Only way to avoid it is to not bring an away team.

Nor should they be. Their ships would look weird.

Use the goto command to tell them where to stand and they will.
The game has an excellent ui, including pause, for controlling your boffs right down to telling them exactly where to place turrets etc.
They are smart enough to use exploits and sometimes even flank (but goto works better for that).
My boffs win most fights without my captain needing to get involved.
The real trick is that the ai doesn't use all powers equally. Learn which the ai understands and avoid the ones it doesn't.
lol, just cant get used to RPG mode, shooter is what im used to.
you cant really move and strike at melee attacks in RPG mode since you gotta use keyb for both
Comments
can't use zoomed crosshairs in rpg mode
Silly Doffs

but you can still use "zoom mode" and get the dmg bonus for that :P
