Timers and R&D

Overall I don't have a problem with the timers in our R&D system. Also, you can bypass them with paying dilithium. Realize though that collecting the mats is already an activity that consumes time and to craft some items, you have to use dilithium. Paying for finishing feels like paying again for something.

Now here is a thing that boggles me, upgrading. Making the upgrade takes time. No problem here. Upgrading something. Well, here I have to put some remarks. Upgrading from mk II to III takes a couple of seconds. That is not much, only one mark. Do you see where I am going? Upgrading from IX to X takes something about 30 minutes. It is not 30 marks up, no just one. Why? Because upgrading a high mark item is much more complicated than a low mark item?

I hit this wall, when I level a character. It is fun to outfit it with your own made purples and level it with the character. It works until captain. After that upgrading your gear is more cumbersome than just playing and picking up loot to use.

If you think the timers are essential. leave it, but think of some steamlining. My new character doesn't have much dilithium. Neither does he have the right level to make all the upgrade sets. This is an operation which is only interesting when you have alts that have the right crafting skills. They make the upgrade kits and do the upgrading. The account bank is essential here.

Dilithium per account and not per character would solve a lot. The new character can upgrade himself by using the dilithium from the account.

Perhaps we could have a bigger upgrade window. Not to upgrade three items, but something that allows us to do much more. For instance, take the character screen. Each item slot should have extra slots for upgrading. With such an upgrading UI, you could use your equipment while the upgrading runs in the background.

Post some of your dilithium at a conversion rate that will not sell (say 100 dil per zen). Log in to your alt and cancel that transaction then pull the dilithium down. Dilithium problem solved (as long as you have some on another character).

um... you should post it at higher than the current rate.... if you post lower it usually sells immediately.

If you're leveling a new alt or Delta recruit, to be honest, 1-50 goes by so quick you can use previous-level gear for a long time (My Captain-level delta recruit still has some mk IV gear and it works just dandy on normal-level)

My point is there's not a lot of incentive to bother with crafting lower-mark gear for a leveling character unless your intent is to do the Fleet Actions and get 1st/2nd place.

    To be absolutely clear:

The current purchase rate of Dilithium -> Zen is something like 200. Your character A has 12,345 dilithium. Your character A posts a bid for 120 Zen at a rate of 100 dilithium each (for a total of 12,000 dilthium). You log into character B and cancel that bid, in effect transferring the 12,000 dilithium to character B. Job done (as no one in their right mind would try to sell their Zen at a rate of 100 when it currently sits at 200).

I just offer to buy Zen at 25 Dil each. Nobody buys it, and I transfer Dil between characters.

If someone was dumb enough to buy it, my inner Ferengi would laugh and laugh...
