RP instance

most maps usually have multiple instances available. how about dedicating one instance of each map to RPers? (delineated by the instance 'RP' instead of a number.)

This should be pretty easy to set up, and would allow the RPers to interact more freely in an environment set up exclusively for them.

That would be a shining beacon to trolls (who shall remain nameless) to come in and try and troll people during RP scenes... It does sound like a good idea though and if there were some anti-troll measures involved I would support this wholeheartedly

The maps that have more than one instance available have them because there are players sufficient to populate them. If there aren't enough players for more than one instance, then there's only one instance. What you're asking to do is immediately double the memory footprint on the server for the (presumed and sole) convenience of role players. In my opinion, that's not really a good use of available resources.

Counter-proposal: just set up location-specific (DS9, ESD, Drozana, and so on) chat channels and use those to conduct your...business. Advertise them in the RP community--such as it is. That would impact the servers a lot less and give you what you want, wouldn't it?

Assuming only the situation where there is only one instance of a social zone. In most cases you have multiple, so the impact is up to 2x but may often be less than that (much less for locations like ESD.)

However, its still questionable. An RP instance would attract people who are into that sort of thing, but it would also attract those who like to harass people who are into that sort of thing. OP a better solution may to be find an RP-centric fleet or chat channel. Those systems can be regulated (using existing mechanics too), instances at present can't be.

The thing to consider though, is that instances are not static, they are dynamic dependent on load in a particular locale. Without knowing off hand how much such an instance would be used, I don't know that the resources would be dedicated to keeping one particular instance alive especially since there is no way to set a preferred instance type

I'm an RPer and to this request I have to say GODS NO!

First you'd have every ERPer suddenly show up there... now mind you if you want to ERP that's your perogative, but I don't want to be RPing that I'm trying to have a drink at Quarks with a fellow Captain while a table over I have two naked white skinned orions played by two sweaty fat guys laying next to each other and being very explicit what they're doing to each other.

Once you get the ERPers you'd get the trolls... actually they'd probably show up at the same time because there are people out there that like nothing better then making you conform to how you should play the game.

Literally it be like lighting a huge bonfire that beckoned every troll, TRIBBLE, and ERPer to show up... and then we'd be back at square one.
