Joke aside. Honestly, the footage zorena posted was the true conventional pvp content back then where mainly piloting skill, coordination and team synergy used to be the decisive factors to outsmart and outmatch your opponents and not an asiatic grind-heavy mmo style with skilless button-smashing erp game that has lost its entire validity. Nowadays, you merely need to outspam and bash your keyboard more frequently than your adversaries to knock them down as it has become the new standard and common sight from s8.5 onwards.
Ever since Cranktic studios has applied all these changes there has been little to none equation between offensive/damage-dealing and defensive/healing skills, no balanced matchmaking and the powercreep is immense than ever before. Besides, there are so many loopholes and tremendous measurements, such as chaining/stacking offensive intel/sci cc-abilities, all types of disables and much more, which can be utilized to defeat any opposing players team effortlessly meanwhile.
Imagine a scenario in which premades would have still cared about the actual metagame and tapped the full potential out of all the thinkable universal consoles (ship-specific and lock box ones and even the very last ones that have been added), BOFF and specialization tree passive and active abilities. With this mind-blowing versatility of skills, ships and equipment fleets could have built countless of diverse team configs and unthinkably many constellations and distributions of roles unleashing frightening power and efficiency.
Can you picture to yourself what would have happened if a well-practiced and battle-hardened team given above description faces a pug team and takes full effect of their setups? Any randomly-made team wouldn't have been just defeated but completely pulverized into dust within a few minutes leaving behind a field of rubble.
The majority of those poor souls wouldn't even know what hit them much less for what reason lol. I guess it's not even remotely imaginable how severe it could have impacted the pvp environment beginning with how fast they'd have driven casual players or passionate puggers off the queues.
I know Jedis, you are a well-known and a dedicated pug-player in your element but I am convinced that you wouldn't be willing to join arena as a pugger anymore if you knew what kind of fun-killers expected you on the opposing side forming their lines and being ready to smoke you and your fellow teammates in no longer than a blink. You'd be fighting a lost cause due to the fact that you couldn't have had the time and the chance to react to the enormous amount of incoming skill abilities at all. For instance, speedy sci vessel might be approaching and apply various sci CC, debuffs aswell as persistant and durable stuns greying out your skill tray on a constant basis while fully buffed cloakers or intelscorts rushing in and literally "razor down" everything in milliseconds like crop harvesters and causing massive chaos and confusion thereby...
In pre-LoR pvp times well-organized and coordinated pugmades were thoroughly capable of taking down experienced premade teams. I used to be a pure pugger too for a whole while and had witnessed these incidents myself having random but well-structured comrades on my side when clashing upon premade teams in public arena.
Sadly, this won't be possible anymore in a metagame coming up with a huge variety of abilities and its potential resulting in unconceiveable amount of optional setups and configs that could be extrapolated by PvP-Fleets. Thus most of the pug teams are randomly assinged their chances to offer a viable constellation in reply to them would have been vanashingly low and they would keep on diminishing the more skill abilities and equipment is released.
And with each little group of things Cryptic added, somebody would try to do something, there would be a thread like that, and...yep, that's what happened to PvP in STO.
New faces...but the same arguments since the F2P conversion and everything since.
Well, Hannibal you posted an impressive wall of text as a reply to 3 words i posted.
I don't even play this anymore. Since 3 weeks or so, I stopped logging in.
Logged in for new FE and yesterday to make my first ever KDF toon delta recruit.
Couldn't pass more then tutorial mission before super extra boredom kicked in.
Anyway, I am done with STO it seems.
Will maybe log in once more to give away EC i have left and that's it.
BTW I liked my against the odds full PUGs. Anything else couldn't top some intense situations there.
Pure synchronization of completely random team members was a sight to behold.

I was trying to invalidate your disparaging comment about zorenas sto pvp video with rational explanations. I think it is not a wise move to evaluate gaming videos by reference of their tension or action packed elements. If you are seeking for pure action videos, go watch the latest part of "Fast and Furious"

Yet, you've still cared about some oldschool boyz posting videos and expressed yourself about it in a disdainful manner. lol If you were done with this game for good then it wouldn't have mattered for you whether someone published old videos or not.

That was the exciting thing about pug-based pvp: The unexpected. Each encounter was unique and different in its own way.

Did you expect something else from a tutorial ? Such as getting a mind-blowing TRIBBLE? lol
You've already told this statement 2 lines further up.
You are very generous and merciful. May God bless you for eternity.

You didn't invalidate my statement. That is super extra boring footage of super extra boring gameplay.
Shame your animosity towards me is the only solid substance in your post; you are going that far to attack every single line in my post LOL.
It was about a month before Season Six and Fleet Ships. While the Bug had been available from that previous Winter Event, only the Cardassian and Ferengi Lock Boxes had dropped...so Galor and D'Kora.
...and then considering what that discussion would be like today?
Gotta say, the nostagia rate of that old thread is quite high; the names involved, the topic... i love it!
let's travel back in time with our supper bosted all-golden mk14 6-doff'd partgen hax'd original neutro torp spreading starship traited t6 ships and and crash a tsi funday! could you imagine their faces

Nice old school rule b****ing hax!

It's a pretty trippy thread considering...
