'useless' R&D Doffs

Having got my little batch of R&D doffs from the Delta recruit system I was somewhat perturbed to get the following three doffs:

R&D Specialisation: Science
R&D Specialisation: Engineering
R&D Specialisation: Shields

The reason I am a bit perturbed is that these doffs are utterly useless in their specialisations as their special item is the Aegis system which requires Gumarre. So am I missing something and is there a project in each of these schools that the doffs are required for or are they booby prizes?

Ps Not complaining as I still got R&D Beams and R&D ground weapons so am happy that something great came out of it.

    Actually science and engineering have two specialization items one of which is the aegis set piece. Shields is the only one that's useless.

    Thanks I never noticed those two items, it is good to know only one of them is useless :)

    You can also trade them in the Officer Exchange missions in Cardassian space. Due to white quality and lack of traits in the holo doffs you'll probably only get a random Green-quality most of the time, but its a free upgrade that isn't bound and can be sold or ground down, and occasionally you even get something useful in the swap.

    They should introduce ground shields that would utilize the doff

    You do realize that Delta recruits get Gumarre for reaching level 1 in any r&d school? I got him last night with a few white doffs.

    Is that so? Because my Delta recruit didn't get Gumarre, and has already reached much higher levels in several schools.

    you need to claim it at the dr ui

    also has the shield r&d doff getting no L15 project been pointed out to the devs? maybe they will add something later.
