I'll let folks figure te utility of this this out for themselves, but I am going to point out a neat little trick.
You can train a BOFF in a new skill, and they no longer loose the old skill..
You could, if you choose as near as i can tell, you can train a BOFF in each and every single last skill availible for the BOFF type.. As long as your not in combat (you can be in mission) you CAN switch what skills a specific BOFF is using on the fly.. it's just a menu selection now.
Take advantage of it. Got a favorite DOFF?... train 'em in everything
I didnt approach this as trick but rather as feature working as intended. And yea the abilities to exchange boff powers and stations is a cool features on combat maps. On versatile ships like the JHSS this almost gets absurd and there are cases where it almost feels like I enter a match with one and come out of it in another build. Well I pug a lot and depending what tasks the pugs leave me to do with one gets a massive boost towards ones own capabilities under such a freedom.
Does the team have enough DPS so I can simply scatter volley everything in my path quickly? Do we need some tankiness insetad? Will crowed control save the day?
Cryptic really did fine with that change.
I managed to solo a sector in Borg Disconnected yesterday after I found a TBR ability left over on a Boff from my NWS runs I otherwise dont use. A single hostile Borg sphere was quickly isolated out of combat with it. The Borg did not send hostile Cubes as reinforcement as result and a lot of ships could be saved.

This was a feature, and was intended for those insane people who love to swap ships every day. They can just swap ships, load the saved loadout, and be ready to go.
Before, you needed to have a different set of officers for each ship. Now, you only need your basic 5-man crew.
I LOVE this ability. It means I can always have my First officer, Science officer and Chief Engineer telling me things in missions, instead of having to use my ensign helmsman tell me stuff depending on what ship I'm in. And can easily swap in some hazard emitters if fighting Borg.

You can safely take off your tinfoil hat, as training a boff in multiple skills was *very much* intended, LOL. I have, indeed, a fav set of boffs I train in every possible ability I may need. Like the Efficient Pirate, aka Mr. Potato-head, the Sci boff you get for free.
The experience training cost increases slightly with each new ability, btw; but I have like 40mil of it, so you'll never notice a handful of it gone.
I like this system because before I could only have my two tactical superior romulan operative embassy boffs on my "best" Fed ship, where as now my Fed can have them on all her ships. It makes having finite quality space trait boffs much more convenient. Now they need to add science and engineering operatives to that embassy...

more like 6. two tacs, two eng, and 2 sci.
But for certain oddball ships... like the D'Kyr, it had 3 sci slots.
Is anybody else, missing the android boff from the c-store? I made a new character for the Delta event and it was not there. I have not claimed it yet. I am also missing the red matter device.
