Hi all, im trying to upgrade my delta deflector to UR, so that it will get the SciCdR mod. Its currently at MkXIV, but its accruing quality improvement chance very, very slowly.
I'm using only purple sci upgrade techs - experimental where possible. Most clicks wont even add 1% to the upgrade chance and it is suprememely frustrating.
Ive probably sunk 30,000 dil into this deflector just on upgrades.
I only have one upgrade accelerator left, which I was hoping to save for my omega tech upgrade. I guess I could use it and the omega on the deflector, but id rather avoid it if possible.
Any tips to make it go faster?
Many thanks in advance dudes and dudettes.

Yeah it can be pretty depressing, trying to get an item to epic.
Use omega tech, it has the best rarity increase chance per unit.
Its going to be expensive anyway you do it...unless you get super lucky and get the epic on the first or second attempt.
My AMP warpcore needed 7 or 8 attempts before it we t epic.. it was unbelievably expensive. I'm just guessing...but probably cost me 75k -100k dil
Your best bet imo. Buy low mk weapons that are already UR on the exchange.
You can choose the mods you want if you buy off the exchange.
At least that way, you get a few extra rolls on going epic from mk vii to mk xiv (for example)
As far as rep gear or fleet gear, that is already mk xii to begin with and very expensive to upgrade.
These are probably the most expensive items to get to UR or Epic.
Imo there are very few rep, or fleet items that need to be UR or Epic.
Understand that it may take significant resources to increase rarity and accept your fate. Save up resources for a week or two and do it all at once. There is less temptation to think you'll get lucky this time.
Invest in using only Experimental Superior Upgrades paired with 1.5x quality boosters for one complete attempt (from 0 tech points to full) to get a reasonable percentage chance of success. I typically repeat this process until I get above 20%. Then I just fill the tech points a cheaply as possible to get another roll of the dice (using Superior Upgrades, sometimes with 1.5x tech boosts).
The 1.5x boosts aren't too expensive (somewhere around 250K EC) and end up reducing your dilithium investment.
Instead if wasting a bunch of resources on the SciCmdr mod, why not get a Tac Command Cruiser? The ship trait All Hands on Deck actually offers an appreciable cool down reduction on all Captain powers and Sci Boff powers. Plus you get a great ship too.
I have a Fleet deflector with SciCmdr and it's barely noticeable.

I just facepalmed myself so much just then. I was thinking of getting a presidio at the next ship sale anyway - i cant believe ive been such a doughnut (I had thought AHOD affected eng, not sci)
I just looked at the stats for all hands on deck, and it would indeed render scicdr mod largely redundant - certainly not worth thousands of dil for a pointless mod.
Thanks for the help chaps - its saved me a ton of dil on the deflector, and the tips will make finishing my beams easier too.
Now i just need a time machine so i can get back the dil i sank into getting this far on the deflector.......
