SPOILERS for anyone who hasnt done the new mission yet.
Im just wondering, was anyone else reminded of the Reaper invasion in Mass Effect after the new FE and seeing all those ships along with the "I see you" part? I actually would not mind having an Iconian version of Harbinger, going around "Assuming Control" of servitor races.
Well at least the Federation Council believed us about the Iconian threat, unlike another Council we could mention :P

Elachi, Solanae and Herald forces are attacking some planet. We'll park one of those ships above the planet and every time the players complete an objective the Iconian will "assume direct control."
Then when it comes to choosing between the super cool robots or people in ev suits... we'll pick the robots!
The mighty invader from the outside is a standard trope in genre fiction. It's not just Iconians and Reapers, it's the Vong (meh) from Star Wars, the Black Walkers (and Daenyrys's army!) from Ice and Fire, a few different groups in Narnia, the Shadowspawn from Wheel of Time...

It's a tested and true bit of storytelling.
I was referring more to the idea of the thought-to-be-long-dead super alians coming from outside of our Galexy, and the mind bogglingly large amount of giant starships that have "eyes." At least the Iconian ships dont look like giant metal space shrimp :P

You must choose destroy.
Don't let the catalyst indoctrinate you into choosing anything else. Its all a lie.
Destroy is the only true choice.
The true choice is shelving me3 altogether and just imagine that in your ME universe, the collective species did not have a massive brain TRIBBLE marathon.
After a long struggle, the reapers where driven off. Congrats. Until next time tuesday.

Well except the Mass Effect series hitting you over the head as far back as Mass Effect that the Reapers would win a conventional war against the galaxy.
I'm starting to feel like I'm the only person who didn't immediately think 'reapers'.
Make that two, and I played Mass Effect a couple of times. AND I was happy with the ending (though the star child part...I chose the 4th option without being sure that there was a 4th).
Er...back on topic...
Unless the one Iconian we've seen is itself an AI. Then I'm just going to pretend that this whole thing never happened.
What we've seen so far reminds me much more of the Shadow War from Babylon 5, than it does the Reaper Invasion from Mass Effect...
An ancient enemy who is known only through myth and legend, with terrifyingly superior technology and hiding in Hyperspace (subspace in STO), after their initial defeat at the hands of a coalition of races millenia ago... This enemy has been manipulating events from behind the scenes, through the use of servitor races, to agitate their neighbours and sow discord throughout the galaxy, before they themselves return in the final stage of their plans... These plans are not to wipe out all advanced civilisations, but to enforce an almost Darwinian notion of only the strong having the right to survive - we don't yet know exactly know how the Iconians choose their servitors, but what's mentioned in A Step Between Stars suggests it's based on their usefulness (once conquered) to the Iconians...
The only thing so far missing is an equivalent race for the Vorlons...
When the first iconian got to talk, I was like "mass effect". Remember sovereign first conversation ? Well, pretty much a similar discussion, and the exact same voice modulation used. Not a coincidence if you ask me.

You are not the only one. You can read anything you want into just about anything. It just takes a little effort. If this story line reminds me of anything it reminds me of something that predates ME, B5, and SW. It reminds me of The Beserkers, but meh, it is all Science Fiction so it is all good.

The dialogue in Mass Effect was just way better.
That first conversation between Shepard and Sovereign in ME1 is truly epic.
The series beat you over the head and shoulders that the galaxy had no chance against the Reapers yet for some reason most players seemed to think they could totally win a regular battle against them.
Heck some weren't even happy with the destroy ending because it wiped out synthetics, i'm not sure how they made it past ME1 without realizing that you had to make difficult choices to win.
Series was good, even ME3 delivered on everything... Yeah the starchild was weird but the game tells you over and over you built this thing to destroy the reapers but you have no idea what it actually does, you just really really HOPE its some kind of weapon... so the possibilty for unexplained weirdness was already covered in the first 15 minutes of gameplay too.
anyway... def more like vorlon types all things considered.

The voice modulation is also reminiscent of Unicron, in Transformers: The Animated Movie.
Voiced by none other then Orson Welles.

To be fair the Federation Council is used to this kind of thing, seeing as it probably happens every other week in the Star Trek universe.

That would be cool.
lol

Though, parts of this are also reminding me of the Destiny Series by David Mack.
Don't let the catalyst indoctrinate you into choosing anything else. Its all a lie.
Destroy is the only true choice.
Instead, we get washed up Star Trek actors who phone it in....except Neelix, he was really good.
I think it was back when you're on the first sphere with Worf that I first saw some parallels between the two stories. And they were awesome.

Seriously they barely beat Soverign.
The herald set ya off? I was more like 'OOOO lookie we have Priors for our Ori now!'
Then I introducd him to the pointy end of my sword.
My character Tsin'xing
I'm not complaining, ME2 is one of my favorite games of all time.. but the parallels were undeniable.
The ending part where the Iconian fleet 'blocked out the sun' reminded me of the very end of ME2 when they see the Reaper Invasion Fleet coming.
I don't think it was a 'rip off' by any means, it just reminded me of Mass Effect. Probably one of the reasons I enjoyed it so much.
but thats just my own observation

well we did wake up the preservers.... and we could call on at least one T'kon outpost.... then theres the guardian of forever and Q

Cirran
It is me.
I am the Vorlons.
The "Indoctrination Theory" was just a pathetic attempt by fans to make sense of Casey Hudson and Crew's bad case of EA-titis.
The dialogue in Mass Effect was just way better.

It was indeed, i also like the scene on ilos, speaking with the prothean AI.
Very memorable moments.
I lived the ep
