Crystalline Event + Promo Retrospective

repetitiveepicrepetitiveepic Member Posts: 6,549 Arc User
So, how did everyone like the crystal/promo event?

There was a thread about anticipation of the promo, I think it's nice to top-and-tail it.

I personally enjoyed it, crystal event is quick to do and simple.

And promo events are my favorite, since they create such a buzz of economic opportunity in the game.

What are your thoughts?

I am so sad about this. I had one crystal shard left to get when yesterday evening we had tornadoes blow through our area -- our power was knocked out... after a while I started getting nervous that maybe I'd miss out so I tried to have someone log in for me, but they were unable to, then I texted another friend and he was unable to get to it in time.
So now, I've wasted all that time running the event just to get screwed by the weather.
    Thanks Oklahoma....
Power didnt get restored until 2:30pm Central
I seriously needed that Dilithium too...
Is there any way for yall good folks to to help a sista out?

Hey now you cant blame Cryptic for the weather. That sucks though. You should probably move.

The entire state of Oklahoma should move to Kansas perhaps? I mean this kind of thing (living in tornado ally) is guaranteed to have tornadoes like every spring..... just sayin.

I enjoyed it, and the rewards were very nice - the torp, the dil, the mats and the piles of marks.

I played on normal so I didn't run into the bug of being added to failed runs. On normal it was a quick and fun STF that could be done by a level 50 in a tier 4 ship without any problems. With a T6 you didn't even need to leave the blast radius just use some shield / hull hardening or temporary hit point power (pilot spec or singularity).

i have to say i enjoyed the crystalline event as always, my main had 18 shards left over from last years extra runs, so collected his payment the first morning, continued to run him and the 10 other alts that were levelled to do it for a very nice tidy sum of dilithium throughout the runs and end payments, but the best thing i came away with was my alt who is now currently working his way through the delta quadrant missions making at least 4000 delta marks to easily see him get through the rest of his delta rep and easily attain all the ground and space gear once it completes, leaving me to only worry about getting his ancient power cells along the way now.
just a shame the mark payouts have now reverted back to fleet and nukara marks only, but i certainly cant complain for what i achieved.....

Sorry to hear of your circumstances. Ever since my internet went out for a week and I missed out on a reward I make sure to participate in the event from day one and factor in for downtime. With the winter and summer events you can purchase extra tokens with lobi to help you towards your goal. However, to my knowledge, the same ability hasn't been extended to the Crystalline and Mirror events. (please correct me if I'm wrong). If someone has extra shards they wouldn't be able to share as they are bound to character. As long as you have the project slotted it will remain and can be filled during the next go 'round. Wish I knew of a way.

OP, I enjoyed the event, ran it on way too many characters. Glad to be relatively free of events until Delta Recruits goes live. Uneasy Allies Is a run once on certain characters and wait for the next unlock, unless they decide to cough up more than just one upgrade per acct per week. If they make it one upgrade per week per character then I'm back to grinding.

I have a Phantom AP build, so I enjoyed the torp. As a casual player, I'm very impressed with the crits I get off that thing. (With all my Tac buffs active, I've seen that thing hit for over 20K)

Disappointed overall with the torpedo. Other than pretty visuals, it's subpar.

It needs either an [Arc] (180') or [Wide Arc] (270') Mod at UR, OR faster reload times.

As it is, it's not worth it at all. Kills sustained DPS too much, and spike DPS is still greater with any other torpedo requiring less time put into them (any and all Reputation torps; even Neutronic with its long CD can match the Crystal torp's CD with it's 2-pc bonus).

If they wanted to keep the long reload, they should have given it an Arc/Wide Arc mod so that at least Broadsiders could take advantage of it to support broadside spike damage.

If they wanted more players to use it, the CD should have been shorter, so that it might actually serve well on escorts looking to trade off a bit of sustained damage for burst damage.

Not worth the 14 days spent to get it. It's going to be a novelty torp for a silly fun AP build, but it's going to rust apart in the banks of all my other alts with it. Disappointing too, for all the effort that was put into its visuals.

I actually enjoyed running it more than I thought I would.

There were all kinds of ship builds coming out of the woodwork for it, and I got to exercise my new Ty'gokor and FHEC setups in some larger scale skirmishes. Don't think I saw a single combat log posted or person creating drama over bad runs or numbers.. even on the subpar runs where people died a lot. It was a nice change of pace.

As for the torpedo, I'm indifferent, My AP specialist is the one I'm rerolling for Delta Recruitment, so they don't get to use it either way. Decided to just hold on to shards for most of my characters.

I enjoyed it. However, I wouldn't mind if they varied the event. I feel one way to revive the ques, outside the tweaking that looks to be finally happening, is to have similar events with other PVE content. Doesn't need to be as long. Or maybe have it that long, but each week the reward comes from that weeks choosen PVE content. Then you could theme it.

I mean how many "newer" players know the STFS are a successive story arc? Each week could be the next PVE mission in that chain. It's just that the reward "shard" is the same to the final reward goal, like a new Borg shield. If they did smaller ones like that and themed, it could just be a pay out of those marks as well with a bit of Dith. We could then have different themed events; Borg, Tholian, Romulan (geez I've really been itching to play Mindtrap.)

That way it MIGHT cut down on the few that AFK near the end of events because the PVE changes each week, but it gives the same reward to a common rep goal.

Just a thought. Again enjoyed it, but ready for more variety.

I enjoyed playing Crystalline Cataclysm, it would be nice if the mission became the standard Crystalline Catastrophe and Cryptic designed a new mission for Crystalline Cataclysm.

The event got better once the problem with the advanced version was fixed.

While the 50k dilithium ore reward was nice, the AP torpedo is only ok. It's nice that it is effective on both hull and shields, the 12 second reload time is a bit long. I think 10 seconds would have been more reasonable. I am using it for now on all my toons, but I will likely switch back to my typical torpedoes.

I enjoy all of stos regular events summer, winter, anniversary, mirror and CC.
they are all great for different reasons and they are all well suited to the duration of the events and the time it takes each day to play them.

When I think about everything we've been through together,

maybe it's not the destination that matters, maybe it's the journey,

and if that journey takes a little longer,

so we can do something we all believe in,

I can't think of any place I'd rather be or any people I'd rather be with.

On the plus side, it was very interesting and I managed to rack up some XP and stuff.

The one thing that bummed me out was I wasn't able to reach the goal of 14 crystal shards. Now I have 13 crystal shards just taking up space in my inventory and apparently nothing to use them for.

I personally enjoyed it, crystal event is quick to do and simple.

I agree there to 100%, with 2 difficulty settings it’s even quick and simple for joust about everybody.

If one abstracts the main reward Dil, the daily mark bonus converted into Dil as well as the direct Dil for the actual run we talk about 5k (normal) and 5,5k (advanced) in 5 minute matches.

I think my account came out of it with over half a million Dil easily refinable over various toons. The price was to play the same map for 10 hours within a timeframe of two weeks.

If anybody at cryptic is still scratching their heads about empty queue lists having anything to do with reward/effort/risk rations I think they should have solid metrics by now what it takes for them to trigger people to log and play even during none event times.

    CE
I like the Crystalline Event in general, and the reward is always nice.
I completed two events on one character (an old one still open from the last run, and the new one), and got a few spare shards for the next CE on several others, and completed it on much more characters than I ever completed the event on. So overall very lucrative.

    Promo
I like the R&D promos more than lockboxes and DOFF promos. R&D packs I actually find useful on their own, while lockboxes contain so much unneeded TRIBBLE no one really wants.
Of course, one can argue that R&D boxes at their regular prices are not worth it and only the promo makes them interesting.

The Shenshar promo was better for me, however, because I actually got two ships then. But getting a ship is still so unlikely that I can't say I was surprised.

I still feel bad for even participating in this. It's ultimately a waste of money, since gaming is a luxury, and I think I may have spend less money on other games that provided me similar or more entertainment value. Or does it? Trek has its unique appeal for me...
Though it is still not as wasteful as, say, going on a drinking tour on the weekend, and it's my money to waste. :D

The biggest waste however wast hat I didn't realize that the R&D weekend would also mean reduced prices for R&D boxes. I should have waited for that weekend before I bought any. Ah well, next time.

If t he weather is nicer to you than this year, you may be able to finnish 2 CE projects the next time.

Your next big Dilithium income could be the new reputation that will probably come out with Season 10. (may still be a few weeks off, we don't know.)

i would of liked the opportunity to select a previous crystalline event for my characters that didnt do the event last time out, so they have a chance to get what they wany. a few times before it was a mirror hakeev, then it was the emergency holo conn officer, then it was the shotgun then the torpedo. if i could i would like the option to chose to do the shotgun for my other toons. a one off choice from a list you can do otherwise you do the one thats given, for the event. at least then you have the chance to get what you think is important to you. to me the other rewards including the torpedo are worthless to me, the shotgun isnt.

anyway apart from that, its just another grind.

The only thing that could have improved the CC event is a visible timer tracking the crytsal shard reward cooldown.

That and if the event ran an extra day, to allow me to complete it on the one character of mine that was short a shard.

The promo is meaningless to me. I didn't see upgrade accelerator prices drop as much as I was hoping for. And even though I'd love its starship trait, I can't afford a JHSS.

Our fleet got a decent boost in construction project progress thanks to the fleet marks and dilithium (hurrah for alts!). Beyond that the torp' seems more of a novelty rather than a practical piece of equipment.

Personally I prefer the Mirror Universe Invasion event. The way it works gives a better sense of active contribution rather than the "park at ~5km and throw the aoe kitchen sink at it" of the CE fight.
I eventually got bored and started concentrating on clearing the Tholians for all but the final phase of the fight.

The shotgun is a blast. I use it as my primary ground weapon, upgraded to Mk XIV Ulltra Rare. It's probably my favorite item in the game.

The lack of visible timers for daily cooldowns is a constant small frustration. Neverwinter turns them all over at a specific time of day instead of doing the 20 hour thing; that also works.

Like too many events in this game, I loved it... until I grew to hate it. It's just too long. IMO it should have been 2 weeks with 10 shards for the special award instead of 3 weeks and 14 shards.

The Dilithium awards from all the alt runs however did progress our Fleet Project nicely.

same thing for my fleet. About the torpedo, my bank loves it
Usually found myself dropping GWIII on them and leaving them to flounder so didn't have to waste time shooting at ships that seem to have hull strength comparable to a tactical cubes!

i had the same strategy, when i played with my sci captain :)
