What to do when you're ready to Retire

malnificentmalnificent Member Posts: 0 Arc User
So it's been a long road, getting from there ... OK, enough of that.

It's been fun but I'm finding myself ready to disembark for Admiral's retirement.

To much had changed in STO and in too short a time for a casual player like myself to feel as if I've been able to keep up, can continue to keep up and have some clue as to what I used to find enjoyable. The game has turned into a simple log-on, reset timers, manipulate the Exchange, and log off. It's not STOs fault, it's just grown beyond me. My bad, not theirs. It used to be fun, I don't find it so now.

This isn't a cry me a river post, it's a genuine "it's been fun, but it's about done" post.

Thing is I find it difficult to walk away from any MMO when I leave "stuff" behind. Played EQ for 5 years, gave away my account, no strings attached. Played WoW for 6 years, gave away all my gold, stuff, etc (account is lost to the ether somewhere).

Now I've been with STO since release and I think I'm ready to clean house. NO, you cant have my stuff. What I'd like to know is what can be done with the millions of refined Dilithium accumulated over all this time? There's no mechanism in STO to give this away. Cant give it to the Fleet, cant give it to a Noob, don't expect any interest on coming back to spend it.

Seems a damn fine waste to see it rot. A billion EC is easy to dispose of ... just give it away. Make some kids day with a shiny T6 ship as a gift out of the blue from a perfect stranger.

Seems to me there should be some way to put the hard earned, 8K daily limited, long accumulated refined hoards of crystals I have to good use.

Ideas?

Yes actually, you can put alt toons in small fleets and help them with the special projects that require several hundred thousand dilithium to complete.

Only suggestion I have is to convert it to zen and buy stuff that's trade/sellable, like fleet modules and master keys.

You can give away EC in the form of say lockbox ships, R&D Packs, anything in a box really. Convert your refined dilithium to Zen on the exchange. Buy Lockbox keys, and give those away. As long as the thing isn't bound, that's how you give it away.

Feel free to send me (@fatman592) anything your heart desires.

Actually there is a way to give it away free...

Foundry, I'd sugest you give it a try, most foundry missions are rather more "Trek" that some of the Cryptic missions. (not saying cryptic missions are non trek - but you get the idea)

but yes you can grant 100 dilithium per review to a foundry author...

I made a quick foundry mission to accommodate for this "Project Alpha"

    its simple as:

    1. Get mission
    2. Go to SFA
    3. Enter the map
    4. Try not to drown in the water
    5. Reach the flooded shuttle
    6. board it
    7. mission complete
    8. Give 100 dilithium to author
    9. Repeat 1 through 9

    :)

Other than that, you can turn into zen, but some items from the dilithium store and give it away to peeps!!!

Can I put in a request to get some modules from the Z-store if you are planning on just leaving your refined dilithium? or maybe a T6 Hazari ship??? :) my @handle is @comrademoco (incase you wish to give something :D)

    :)

P.S. This has to be the most genuine and sincere "retirement" posts.

Best wishes to you in your search for a new source of life...

let me recommend an upcoming game: "Dual Universe" which should have its Alpha late 2015/early2016

the way i break out of a game that i have invested a lot into is by distancing myself from it emotionally and then cut it off, find something else to do and forget about it. i did it with world of tanks and i had hundreds of hours on that game alone, i recently did it with vega conflict, despite the clan i was in looking to make me a further "go to" guy and them looking to me, i distanced myself from it as it was just no fun any more, then cut it out.

however i do not know how you deal with confronting such issues, but the best way to defeat something annoying is by confronting that its a distraction and throwing it out the way for something else.
    T6 Miranda Hero Ship FTW.
Been around since Dec 2010 on STO and bought LTS in Apr 2013 for STO.

I would send roughly 75% of my possession (Ships, lockbox weapon crates, traits DOFFs... ) to my best friends, then i would delete all but ~5 of my most favourite captains (just in case...).
Beta, LTA, CE, Multiple preorder Versions, all Addon Packs except AoY, nearly all KDF/Rom and ~50% of all Fedships, over 25 LockboxShips, Endurer of Atari's "Year of Hell", but...
    unfortunately:

    NOT LOYAL ENOUGH!!!

    Take a break.
    Or just unistall.
Logging in to refine your leftover unrefined is the only way to get rid of it.
Is it worth 2-3 months of logging in just so you can give away all your Dil ?
That would be a hassel imo, especially for someone trying to distance themselves from the game.

For the dilithium: buy a bunch of zen on the exchange and then sell the zen for 25 dil each. Repeat until bankrupt.

^Not being greedy like the rest of these people, my suggestion is to give the account to a friend or REALLY close fleetmate that doesn't have much to keep the account alive.

^^ That's probably against the EULA.

I have a fleet of one (just me) and been stuck trying to complete a fleet ship requisition project as it needs so much dil. Grateful for a helping hand...

I would do nothing, you may change your mind someday. I left for almost a year (after my account was TRIBBLE and everything sold) and came back for example.

Also, patience. You can get just about anything done if you're willing to hang in there. I have a family Fleet for example and we just hit level 16 in it. Such a thing looked impossible to me back in the day and I thought T3 holdings was the best we'd be able to do.

in one last act of defiance to the people who destroyed your fun time liquidate all belongings on every toon. into ec or lockbox keys and donate it the the founders of the festive of blood and fire. or bloodwine and gagh or any other hard core KDF player to help them promote the kdf. so more people will become thorns in their sides and pressure them to turn this back into a game instead of a JOB.

thanks for your time and consideration.

@icsairguns for ingame contact info if so desired.

If you have enough stuff hold a giant game wide event and invite everyone. Give away prizes...everyone should be happy with that.

Otherwise just head to your nearest faction planet and randomly give stuff away via zone chat. That seems to go over well with new players.

While the generosity is definitely commendable, we do have a rule about not posting "I quit" threads so I'm afraid I'll have to close this down.

It cuts down on the "can I haz ur stuffz?" spam. Not to mention the inb4lock's.

I'd echo the comment that it's not necessary to burn your bridges and delete your account, but if you're determined to do that...
