This time it should happen, seeing how Disney has control of the project now. And with the old EU now toasted, look for this to replace a lot of what we had with that work.

The Star Wars Rebels animated series, is quite entertaining. Last live action TV was a Christmas special in the late 70's. It was horrible.
That wasn't because of live action TV, though - that was because it was written by cretins, and had Bea Arthur trying to sing.
A live-action SW TV show could serve the same function for the SW movies and spinoffs that Agents of SHIELD does for the MCU - introduce new concepts ahead of time, so valuable film time doesn't have to be wasted, say, explaining what Inhumans are or why nobody's heard about them before. (Presumably AoS is where we'll first see the MCU Spider-Man, before he appears in Captain America: Civil War.)

This is actually surprising and good to hear. Coming off of Clone Wars and seeing some of the early trailers for Rebels, I felt it was going dumb down the results to something worse than the first animated Clone Wars movie (where Asoka was actually an annoying talker with "Stinky" the baby Hutt. So glad they moved away from that.)
In 1975, my kindergarten teacher showed us "The matchbook girl" when it was over, she tearfully told us we were spoiled children, and there was no Santa Claus. She had a discussion with the other two horrified teachers, and the principal, and left school that day in an ambulance. Never to return. (True story)
In 1977, I saw Star wars on the big screen, it was the highlight of my summer. I lived in New York and went to a camp. Our councilor told us not to lag in the woods, or "the son of Sam" would get us.(again true story)
I had somehow blocked that part of the special from memory. So it was just that bad, or I had effed up priorities as a child.

I just remembered a lot of Wookies, an odd space-defying aquarium, and Harvey Korman in outrageous alien drag pushing some sort of bizarre cooking show.

I'd you're a fan of clone wars, you will love the season 1 finale of rebels ... that's all i'm gonna say.

Sounds like you had an... interesting childhood. :P

I shared the same opinion, now that Disney has the IP . It's as good as Clone Wars. If they hadn't run a marathon of them on a weekend I was bedridden with the flu, I wouldn't have given it a chance. Glad I did.
I think I'd like to watch Rebels. Unfortunately, every time I tune in the channel it's hypothetically showing on, all I ever get to see is a seemingly endless stream of commercials.

The anime streaming site that I use has it in their cartoon section. I could PM the site if you are interested.

That's why I love my DVR and fast forward button, lol. Sometimes i start watching shows 15 minutes late just so i can skip the commercials. I record everything i watch
My big problem with Star Wars Rebels is that they took the totally different setting of the Galactic Empire Era and turned it into a Clone Wars duplicate, masquerading in classic Original Trilogy appearances.
As time has gone on in the franchise after the Prequels started coming out, the poison of Jedi being literally everywhere has spread. Even in the Original Trilogy/Galactic Empire's timeframe. The expanded universe makes it seem like Order 66 never occurred, the Jedi are still everywhere, and the reason for Luke Skywalker's importance negated. It all makes the title, "Return of the Jedi" a joke now because the Jedi never left and are still all over the damn place.
The Galactic Civil War was fought with conventional forces by the Empire and Rebel Alliance. Jedi were eradicated. Emperor Palpatine and Darth Vader were in control. But the IP itself has ****ed that over and turned the era into a reskinned Clone Wars. To hell with that.
Who needs Luke Skywalker when you got Jedi Master WhatsHizNutz running around with his lightsaber destroying everything?

I like how the main EU novels did it. There was a couple of old Jedi Masters hiding out, but the majority of the new Jedi were Force Sensitives that were trained by Luke to become Jedi. Emperor Palpatine and Anakin Skywalker could kill almost all of the Jedi, but they can't kill everyone that can become a Jedi.

I wouldn't mind that either. Cable TV ain't exactly cheap, and on top of that, I'd need to get an extra package of channels just to get Disney XD (that's what it's on, right?). So being able to somehow watch it would be nice. I remember renting the pilot/movie thing when it came out, and enjoyed it.

I can certainly understand that. But the nice thing about them dumpin the entire EU away is that ALL of those now no-longer matter. The 'slate was wiped clean' as it were.
Though the reverse also kinda holds true in regards to the Sith. I mean, it really negates Anakin's sacrifice and death after he kills Palpatine for the Sith to still be around, that whole 'bring balance to the Force' thing. I mean first off Palpatine just shakes off death like a bad cold, twice, before finally being off completely by a Jedi who'd survived Order 66.
Oh yes, let's not forget about the fact that there was apparently during ALL of this practically after Order 66 was one A'Sharad Hett, aka Darth Krayt running around for an entire CENTURY or so before he was finally offed. Not to mention he created the One Sith as well.
And of course the zillion already-dead Sith, mostly on Korriban which seems to act as an instant 'Jedi-to-Sith' converter most of the time. Or Exar Kun hanging around on Yavin IV twiddling his thumbs for a few thousand years. This ain't even getting into the non-Sith but still Dark Side users like the Dathomir witches.
Or in short, I think Star Wars was suffering from what I like to call, 'canon bloat'. Or basically a universe that had TOO much in it, so much of what was originally done was negated. In a way, it's just overall better that so much has been dropped. Sure we lost some good stuff and characters, but gotta take the bad with the good.
I remain empathetic to the concerns of my community, but do me a favor and lay off the god damn name calling and petty remarks. It will get you nowhere.
I must admit, respect points to Trendy for laying down the law like that.
