How can people say they have so many main toons? i see all the time people say i have 2 mains or 3 mains or what ever. ok i mean really main means ONE, primary, top dog, goto your favorite and so on.

its liek best friend you can have only one BEST not two or more, one will always mean something more to you than others will. if not then you have no best or in this case main.

SO some say no i means 1 main per faction well that still wouldn't fit because you would still have a preferred faction making the favored toon of the favored faction the main.

So somebody please explain it to me or just tell me im bat $hit Crazy . but it just drives me nuts when i read something like my two mains.

No need, you got the idea. They forgot what main and alt mean. It happens I blame the government.

if I stop posting it doesn't make you right it. just means I don't have enough rum to continue interacting with you.

I always thought that “main” means “prime” or “first toon made” or whatsoever and alts are all the rest.

As far as I’m concerned I have 8 chars I try to treat equally (which of course does not work -lol ). They are all in endgame (40-50 spec points and all mk14 gear) and have different builds made by me to come with certain endgame tasks best.

If I have a main it’s never the same one. The game changes a lot as of late and over the years in general. My enemy neutralisation engineer for example started to bore me back in season 9 somehow but made an awesome revival in DR elite ground contend becoming the best choice in pugs.

Its kinda funny but with whatever the game comes up with I just happen to have the right toon for it.

Your main changing happens. But there is almost always a character that you think of first when you hear something new is coming even before you get any details. For a lot of people it is their first character and they stick with it, others change up. I try to keep my alts update to but my kdf character comes first.

Oh and you can have a alt you like more then the other doesn't make it another main just a favorite alt my kdf ROM alt comes before my fed alt. If you think about it you could probably make a list of which alts you favor over the rest.

so if you had 2 or 3 children which one would be your favourite, come on you must have one favourite you cant love them all the same amount.

you may think this is a poor analogy and im not saying you love your characters like you would your children but for a lot of players they have created their characters they have spent a lot of time playing them, they play them all the same amount of time and do often the same events and missions and such with them, why do you think it must be that he would prefer any one character above the others.

sure he may have a few other characters that he only uses for farming or only do stuff with once in a while that he might consider as alts or he may not but just because you have 1 character that is your favourite and look on as your main and the other player feels the same way about his two or three characters and considers them both or all as mains does not mean either of you are wrong.

you just have different ways of looking at things.

When I think about everything we've been through together,

maybe it's not the destination that matters, maybe it's the journey,

and if that journey takes a little longer,

so we can do something we all believe in,

I can't think of any place I'd rather be or any people I'd rather be with.

Well, I have 4, what I call "main" toons: 1 FED, 1 KLINGON, 1 ROMULAN, 1 REMAN. And by that I mean, I try and take them through all possible content. Of course, of these 4, I tend to favor my Main FED toon, because that character is the one my head canon story revolves around. All of my other toons are my alts and in some way relate to these 4 "main" toons.

I consider my 4 characters "alts" because I alternate between them pretty much evenly. They are all level 60+, with more than 12 spec points each, have about the same number of reputation sets, and about the same R&D and Commendation completion levels. It has always been my goal in the game to have as full an experience as possible with respect to the factions and main races. I wish I had made one of my Romulans a Reman instead, but until there is a species respec to be had, I'll make the most of what I've got.

I have no idea what Cryptic's long-term prospect is for the Delta Recruit, but for now, I'm planning that character as disposable, so I can do silly things with it. I have yet to play a human character, so maybe this plan will change...:P

the favored child analogy works for the toons . i have 6 kids 6 years to 26 years and a grandchild . some get preference over others in certain things and its not always the same one . so as i said before you cant have multiple mains but you can have a bunch of alts. so while its sorta morally wrong to say i have a favorite child i do. and its not the one all the others seem to think it is LOL. just because one is favored does not mean you have to neglect the rest just means you favor one. but you cant favor two there will always be something different that stands out. kids, cars, toons or anything really even two items off the same assembly line can be slightly different allowing you to favor one over the other.

as for a different way of looking at things. words do matter its why we have them. and whats important about them is not how they are spelled its what they mean. the person below has the right idea for multipls that they play equally or cant decide on. they are all alts as it should be if you have more than one and havent decided or determined yet which is your favorite.

well we used to be FORCED to make a fed toon before we even play KDF side. these days i dont have a fed toon i deleted them some time back. and my 1st kdf toon i botched up so bad i had to make another and start over. and it is now also long gone. Now i have 10 toons only one is a main the rest are ALTs and while i tend to take my science toon into PvP when i used to do it. and my engineer on ground my Klingon tac is the main. that i can take into do anything and fell safe. rather than a specialized role jsut for kicks and giggles.

I have 8 captains in total which I categorized them into 3 categories: Primary (or "main"), Secondary, and lastly Tertiary. They are categorized based on the order they were created. Most development is spent on primary captains while least development time is devoted to the tertiary captains. However, I do re-categorize the captains from time to time. There are no more than 3 captains in each category.

Currently my primary captains are: Federation Engineer, KDF Tactical and Romulan Scientist (fed aligned). They are the first three captains and are in the order in which they were created. If I had to choose one as my "main" captain, it would probably have to be the Federation Engineer. But I have also spent a lot of time the Romulan Scientist, but that was primarily to figure out how to make a ship commanded by Romulan Scientist work. I had found out the hard way that a Romulan Scientist (especially Fed aligned) is the worst type of captain to be due to the power penalty of the Singularity Core which basically means less power to devote to Weapons and Auxiliary Subsystems... I nearly deleted my Romulan Scientist, twice... but that in itself is a totally different topic.

My Delta Recruit will likely be categorized as one of my three primary toons due to limited time for the Delta Recruitment Event. However, once that event ends it will be re-categorized as a tertiary captain.

Well, I have a story in my head for all these toons, and yes, it pretty much centers on the FED. So, yeah, he's my MAIN "main" toon. Perhaps a better analogy is needed. Those 4 toons are like my first string players. I have a second string, third string, etc. But those 4 get the most attention, and I consider them my "main" toons, although the true main toon is the FED. :D

    Personally, I don't have a main.

    I am an altaholic.

I have too many ideas in my head to ever really focus on a single one. Granted, I can only play one character at a time, but I'm able to do that by setting a goal and reaching it. Once the goal is reached, time to move on.

I've been like this since before MMO's. It goes back to PnP RPG's growing up. I could sit down and enjoy playing through a campaign, even over multiple sessions, but the next time a new campaign came along, I made another character. I had over 200 characters I created over the years I played with my group. Not all of them got played (not even close) as a lot of times I made the character just to get the idea out of my head and into the "real world".

When I got introduced to MMO's, my altaholism didn't go away. If anything it got worse since character slots are a lot more expensive than a sheet of paper. I do have characters I like more than others, some are more fleshed out, but I still consider them equal. When the time comes for the next alt in the rotation to get some time, they get it. Sometimes I'll look them over and see where improvements can be made and doing so improves my experience with them.

But once an alt reaches a certain point, I do NOT delete them. Too much of my time and energy went into their creation to do such a thing. Of course, MMO's shut down and I lose my characters, but that's out of my control. Thankfully, I can recreate them in the next MMO and continue their story.

I can see though how some players may consider themselves to have multiple main characters. Their first character could be a main, their first Engineer could be a main of that career, their first Klingon/Fed/Rom could be a main of their specific faction.

It's all based on personal interpretation. There's no "right way" for everyone.

I intentionally use different gear setups on each character so that my characters DON'T play the same. It makes for a very different feel when you swap characters and your total loadout changes.

Back in the day before revamps you could spec enough to be good at ground or space but not both

I have one of each class slotted for ground and for space.. for my fed toons..

    1 of each class kdf

    1 Rom sci toon

Sadly the revamps made most of them unnecessary

My main is a fed sci........I made him during beta....
Today we fight the GAULS......monstrous and HAIRY beyond reason.

    Hmm.

I did have a mild case of alt-acholic lol. At one point I had 8 characters and devoted roughly equal time to all of them across different factions and classes.

DR has cured me of that, lol. Most of those toons are gone, deleted. I have three "alts" that I keep around strictly for roleplaying purposes, including my sole KDF toon.

My Red!Romulan is sort of stuck in limbo. I'd like to develop her further but alas lack the time and dil to do so.

Which leaves my two Fed "mains" that I devote my time and attention to. Both are about equal really. Sci and Eng, both fully repped and equipped. Both in similar levels of crafting.

If I had to pick one though it'd be my sci because she seems to be the one I do new missions and stuff with first-though my Eng follows through a few days/weeks later.
