Shall I return

Though I still have an active STO account, I've been away from the game for about two years now. Help me decide if I should return by answering a question or two:

1. Are we still dealing with the same two (2) old PVP scenarios (Cap n' Hold and Arena), that we've had since 2010?

2. Any new maps at all?

PVP was always my favorite part of the game, but it got quite stagnant after nearly three years of almost zero development or improvement.

BTW, as long as I'm here let me give a shout out to all my old fleeties in Nova Core:

Afterburner
Tripwire
Darksamus
Tarsis
Benjamin L. Sisko

I'd contact them directly but I don't even have the STO/teamspeak equipped computer I used to play the game with.

    To answer your two questions,

    Yes. No.

The PvP population is in the dumps, no premade activity. Grind levels are hellishly high to gain specializations, better equips, doffs and traits. But that can be subjective. Certain balance issues have been fixed, but they were usually superseded by others.

There is Shuttle PvP, but no one really does it.

PVP is dead, killed by selling powercreep for $$. The old players have mostly left, not many new players stay around when they see the gap

Do you like to vape? Would you like to re-buy a T6 copy/pasted T'varo (Fahet) or Defiant (Phantom)? Are you in to spending half a billion ec and loads of dilithium to upgrade or buy Mk 14 Epic weapons and gear?

If so, stand by to wait for queues to never pop. Prepare to be riveted by sitting cloaked waiting for someone to hit with disables and Surgical Strikes. Forum PvP with the dozen or so people left in the PvP community.

PvP is dead, DR killed it.

Well, reading the title of this thread I couldn't help but think of this:

If only we had a PvPer for every time the above is repeated...

    Jeez...that's depressing.

Like I said, I walked away from the game about 2 years ago, but recently started reminiscing about the "old days".

What I remember best is organized/team PVP circa early-to-mid 2011. Before Free-to-play/Pay to Win.

Wish I still had the FRAPS videos I took at the time.

Epic matches between worthy, well-matched opponents. Lots of comaraderie and coordination between good teammates. Lots of humor...damn, miss that.

Had to bolt when the game started to feel more like a casino than an ST galaxy.

BTW, is Nova Core even still a fleet? Their website is down.

    Those were good times.

No, I don't think Nova Core is still around.

To be honest, no one really is. Everyone now and then, I'll see another Panda on, other than myself. Occasionally an IC, sometimes some Vice Squad or even a TSI guy. But none of the fleets from the Golden Age still exist.

Nova core still plays PVP, but their premades left after some disagreements with the fleet lead (who was quitting STO), made their own fleet, and eventually left that fleet when it became clear that the ten of them didn't have the resources to fund a starbase to level 5. They then joined up with some pve fleet to operate out of the backyard of, then half of them quit STO altogether to go play Star Citizen and Elite Dangerous, and the rest joined Ka-tet.
