RIP Harve Bennett, Who Resurrected Star Trek

longasclongasc Member Posts: 490
Harve Bennett died last Wednesday at the age of 84. While he for sure was never nearly as well known and popular as Leonard Nimoy, he was an important figure:

Without him, Star Trek might have stopped after the TOS era already. So possibly no TNG, no DS9, no Voyager or Enterprise.

You can read up about his life and work on Star Trek here:

May he rest in Peace. What he contributed to Star Trek was an impressive feat, and kept the flame going to get the rest of the saga. Without him, I don't think we'd be celebrating the 50th anniversary next year.

Actually, there are three big contributors to Trek that died in the last couple of weeks, Maurice Hurley (TNG Producer), Nimoy, and now Bennett.

I heard about this yesterday in one of the Memorials threads

I remember his name being attached to another Sci-Fi show I used to love called "Time Trax" back in the mid 90's

    R.I.P.
Deep Space Nine in HD, make it so!

I didn't know TMP's budget was that bloated. Wow!

Anyways, RIP to the man. He pulled through for Star Trek when it could have been snuffed out.

Star Trek 2, 3 and 4 were a trilogy within the movie series and IMO the best movies as far as Star Trek is concerned.

Harve Bennett was a huge part of it and deserves acknowledgement in STO for it.
Absolutely. I'd go so far to say ST II/III/IV are the best trilogy in all of sci-fi. (Sorry Mr. Lucas) :D

Both Harve Bennett & Nicholas Meyer "got" Star Trek. What impressed me most about Bennett was this part:
Only vaguely familiar with the original series, he sat down and watched all 79 episodes over several days.

Too bad the modern bunch never did that.
