Fairly new here, but have been playing for a while now.
My main toon is a Fed Sci with a nice T5U CC Vesta and a healboat Samsar, but my Fed/Rom Tac is stuck with a Chell Grett.
Now don't get me wrong - i like the Chell to death, it's one of the better destroyers available, but i have been wanting to go a bit more agressive and also use a cloak - it is the Romulan way, after all.
I'm not a fan od squishy-glassy boats (my sci just refuses to die sometimes, it's a habit...), but don't want a space hog "overcompensator"like the Scimitar. The thing needs to melt targets AND buzz around a bit AND, if it's possible, not die if you look at it funny.
I have been grinding the dil for it, but don't have the will or resources to collect Lobi (only 400 so far) or grind EC for something alien. Also - cloak.
The only two birds that fit the description are the ones mentioned in the title.
Now, the basics are clear - the Ar'Kif is more durable (big plus, more simillar to the Chell), but has a fewer tac Boff goodies and turns slower. One console more (upgraded), but the Faeht will eventually get a fleet version. No trait, but Faeht's trait is just a survival mechanism.
I do mostly PvE, but also have fun with friends in PvP duals and such. I like to do AoE dmg, not for the deeeps contest, but for disco/fun/explosions reasons.
My main question concerns the intel abilities. I have almost zero experience with them, but from reading about them, they seem OPed to oblivion. How "necessary" are they for staying in touch with the game's content (my DHC Chell had... erm... problems in some Advanced STFs) and for the long run? How usable are they in PvE? Both questions are in close connection to the bird that would be using them.
The reason i ask is that the Ar'Kif isn't exactly getting a lot of love in the game, i can't recall when i last saw one, and from the stats, it should be very usable. It is also one of the several ships (Fleet T'varo being the other notable) that the Faeht is "replacing" in the T6 lineup.
Any users who fly or have some experience with both?
From what you describe, I'd say the Faeht. The Intel stuff gives you new options to play with, and particularly excel at sudden surprise attacks (and if you're trying to go The Full Romulan anyways....). Plus being T6 already its not already maxed out, and you get a trait, and you don't have to play around with Upgrade Token this and Fleet that, just grab it and go. Its a really good ship and just plain fun to use.
I'm allready using plasma DHCs/turrets on the Chell (mostly acc/crtd romulan rep - hey, they were free...) along with the KCB/console. In fact, i was kinda' thinking about going dual beams/experimental romulan front and KCB/Omni/random filler back (rom torp?) - somehow the laser show feels more consistent, but the jury is still out on that...
I never leave the docks without ST 1, HE 2, EptW 1 and a TT1 for every energy ability, it's on every ship i have, so that's covered.
The "vaping" is something i'm counting on in PvP, there is a Gal-x build from a friend that needs "deconstructing"...
The "running" aspect is a problem, since i don't have any special conosoles or sets for it.
I've been agonizing over if I should get the Faeht. Since I had a T'varo Retrofit sitting around unused I decided to use it for now, but I still love the look of the Faeht, and I feel like I might be missing out on not having "the shiney T6 toy." I'll probably end up getting the ship, but even though I have the zen, I'm concerned about the possibility of buyer's remorse and need to collect more opinions first.

Having flown both (my Rom-Tac uses a Faeht, my Rom-Sci uses an F5u T'varo), they're VERY similar. Faeht makes a better vaper because of what the Intel abilities allow, but the universal ltcmdr combined with the rest of the boff layout gives the T'varo far more flexibility with similar durability and general offense. From my own experience, I like the Faeht for simply murdering things, but I like the T'varo better for everything else.
Well, I seem to be in the minority flying a Fleet Ar'kif T5u. Couple of points on it. It is very durable at fleet level, especially if you have points in pilot and attack pattern shield buffs. It has 5 tac consoles and one more in general than the T6er. Much more hull and a hanger. Mine runs with a Reman Covariant shield fully upgraded and it has regen upgraded too. Very strong. I prefer to run corrosive plasma and DBB's. Out back I have omni plasma beam, KCB and Vaudwaar cluster torp. Elite Scorps are tad squishy but very useful.
I understand the intel abilities are pretty op and enhanced cloak is sure nice(I have a Fleet T'varo too) but I have 5 fleet tac consoles......It vapes well enough with BO3. Turn rate is shade off of the T6 ship but with a couple Fleet Neutroniums +turn, its very nimble. More a flavor difference I suppose. I would say the Ar'kif is very slight bit better atm but when T6 fleet ships arrrive, it will be left in the dust. Just my 2cents.........
- Superior turn and impulse speed characteristics. Superior inertia rating. The Faeht simply handles far better than the Ar'Kif in every possible way.
- Equal TAC Console Slots but could slot more Tactical abilities than the Ar'Kif without crippling the ship.
- Related to the previous point: Faeht has a LtCdr SCI station that does not cripple the basic play of the ship.
- Faeht is T6 while Ar'Kif is T5. T6 13 BOFF Skills > T5 12 BOFF Skills. This is what enables the previous 2 points.
- Intel Ship: Full access to Intel Specialization abilities. Keep in mind OP, they're not all great but some really do stand out.
- Enhanced Battle Cloak - A luxury, most esp in PVP.
- The Fleet T'Varo before DR was a true menace in the hands of a savvy player. But even the Non-Fleet Faeht makes the venerable Fleet T'Varo obsolete. That should tell you quite a lot about the capabilities of the Faeht.
- No Fleet Intel ships yet. The Faeht can only get better. My guess is a +1 SCI Console slot since it has a LtCdr SCI station.
The one thing to remember when flying a light warbird like the T'Varo, Faeht is that your margin for error is smaller with the weaker hull. But the offense, stealth, superior handling, BOFF station setup, and full-fledged Intel option is a very wonderful set of tools for a good captain.
So far, i'm loving it! Since my tac Rommie is a bit fresh (not even lvl 60, unfinished reputation), i still have a lot of upgrading to do, but i'm definitely not dying more often than in the Chell and my dps is better. I love the way it handles and the intel stuff is fun. It practically melted a cube in advanced infected with surgical III. This is my temporary build (going to switch DHCs with DBBs):

Enhanced battlecloak FTW!:D
Also the full Intel access truly is a belssing, all the fun toys you get: OSS, SS, IT and more.
Faeht=great
Wow! Now, that's an answer.

Faeht by a wide margin.

It also looks very cool with nukara shields.
Fleet version is going to be awesome.
