Cryptic i have a question

jorantomalakjorantomalak Member Posts: 7,133 Arc User
I know i may get into trouble for asking this question but at this point where the game has lost all its luster , fun and enjoyment for me i guess i just dont care.

Question :

Why are you trying so hard to chase players from the game?

Reason for asking : Since DR the blatant money grabs the constant nerfings the utter disregard for your players who are not liking what you are doing.

You made it hard to level but now your going to make it even harder?

This is not fun this wont make players stay in game it will make most quit.

But as my original question asks

"Why are you trying so hard to chase players from the game"

I really would appreciate an answer an honest answer from you the cryptic development team

And if as i predict i get into trouble for asking this one simple honest question i wont bother coming back to STO.

Im concerned where the game is headed and find the game no longer fun.

You aren't the only one I'm sure.

I think they'd argue no they aren't pushing players from the game but to not play the same content over and over because players have complained farming Argarla isn't fun. That's their reasoning in a nutshell I guess from what I've heard here or there.

Cryptic in this case is caught between a rock and a hard place. Players don't like feeling forced to play Argarla over and over but then it seems they don't like mandatory cd and forcing us to do other stuff, they can't win. I'm proud not to touch the DR patrols for a good while now and even when I did it was no where near what some have done. I'm trying to learn to have fun by doing a random STF or PVE mission to do dailies for the hourly projects and not focus on the grind, in some ways flat out saying no and leaving the spec grind and be proud it's going to take years after STO dies before I finish it.

We'lll see pretty soon the answer. Is season 10 the last season?
Are we grabbing what we can before the store burns down?
    Iconian lockbox this May?

What will the reaction be to less than 30 people queued up for missions next week?
Steam numbers of less than 1000 in primetime?

Does it matter so long as 100 people spend 500$ that week each?

Or are we just trying to drive away vets and replace them with new players who believe spending 300$ a month is cool.

Some people don't like the game.

Some people do like the game.

Some people don't like the game but play anyway.

Some people don't like or play the game, but come to the forums to moan and whine in the misguided belief that anyone gives a proverbial about what they have to rant about.

And yes, they've just released an expansion and hired in expensive voice actors. Obviously the game is about to be shut down.

You are most welcome, didn't know that because I have an opinion I was a troll...hmmm must be because I'm not the usual bwaaaa bwaaa me need me want give me give type of poster...in that case I'll take it as a compliment, thank you.

Spell checker? Seen worst spelling from Americans and Brits so spare me the lecture...

White knight/troll tend to be one and the same, mind you so do haters/trolls.

The OP didn't claim to speak for all players as you stated, "players" is used in the generic term. You chose to state he was talking about all players and then go on the attack. Hence troll.

Players are being driven from the game it can not be denied, there are new people coming in too. However without access to figures we will never know if the incomers are outweight or even equalling the leavers.

The trouble is they are stuck between a rock and a hard place, people complained about having to do one mission all the time, so they change it and people will complain about being forced to do other things. Unfortunately the story line missions in DR are so lacking it is rediculous. They need to do better for story missions for a release of an expansion.

I have played with major grind, RS says hello for the various "skills" levelling, the difference is that it was fun chatting with people in the areas while doing it, you can't do that here. The same for the pre mount level lowering Barrens as it was the largest pre mount zone in the game. People joked about while doing the long trips between mission givers and hand ins. Even EvE before you can travel and defend yourself properly is a bit of a grind, but the players made it okay through chat.

Okay, I'm not Cryptic but I'm going to try to answer anyway. Cryptic is not trying to chase players away, they are trying to retain existing players while encouraging new or lapsed players to return.

I know, I know, you're thinking now "But Jermbot, what about me and all the people like me who dislike these changes and are presumably more likely to leave now because of them."

Well, taking you at your word, Cryptic's calculations indicate you're an inevitable loss. If not right now with this change, than in the immediate future when the increase in effort taken to advance makes the game too little fun for you to participate, or if they do nothing, when the speed at which you complete content eclipses the speed in which they can produce new content, giving you no reason to stick around.

Okay, every player has a set amount of time they are going to play Star Trek Online. That amount of time is the result of a wide range of different variables, both social and mechanical. Enjoying the act of dressing like a hot Orion Babe and having digital intercourse on Drozana Station is a social variable that will keep you playing longer. Enjoying the Dyson Sphere zone, or tricking out your newest ship to maximum efficiency though are mechanical variables. Cryptic can only control the mechanical variables and even those only to a certain degree.

The biggest mechanical variables are all centered around game content. I'm defining game content, by the way, as anything that gets players logged into the game. Most appreciably the quality of content, the quantity of content, and the speed in which you, as an individual, finish with that content. And yes, in this I am including character improvement like the new specialization system, and player driven activities like PVP and the foundry. Once a player finishes the game content, or runs out of reasons to log in, they will stop playing the game. Maybe for ever, maybe for a few months while more content is created, either way it is in Cryptic's best interests to make sure the number of paying players completing the content and quitting is either less than or equal to the number of new paying players finding the game or returning to continue playing.

Your complaint has been that Cryptic is making it harder for you to finish the content in game. And while they will inevitably lose some players to the frustration of removing an easy way to progress, in the long run they must believe they will retain more paying players for longer by lengthening the time it takes everyone to complete content and by diversifying the way in which a player can progress.

Actually they've made it quicker to level recently. However, prior to DR, levelling to 50 in less than 2 weeks was a joke. People, and I mean the players, asked for harder content and longer periods for levelling. You shouldn't expect Cryptic to hand-hold you and wrap you up in cotton wool, giving you a treat everytime you press the Space bar!

Its called tough love, some of these whinn...ehmm I mean posters need to be educated in the do's and do nots of the forums, tired of seeing the same post over and over about the same subject and in the wrong section.

The op said he wouldnt post anymore and for that I'm thankfull, that is one less whinny poster I have to worry about.

I can’t really say if your attitude there either scares me or makes me feel pity. In any case you have my condolences and the rest of us have from mods.

To get back on topic, well yea OP I feel you. I’ve been around in STO for 3 years and most of the time as a happy customer. Ever since DR was released more and more situations occur where I simply can’t help but to shake my head to what their intention is with this games future. I think the way cryptic deals with the game there seem to be only three important factors for them.

    1) $ income (there are enough whales around who guarantee that for as long as new stuff to buy is released quickly and in game demands urge purchases by averages)
    2) daily log in numbers (it dos not matter if u play 24 minutes or 24 hours for as long as you log and do so daily if possible)
    3) Confirmation that new contends is being used to justify the next development step. (Argala served its purpose, now it may go in light of the upcoming season)

Unfortunately, the way cryptic interacts with it’s customers and what adjustments they keep on undertaking leads me to conclude that they are doing very well and a lot of our problems are simply not theirs and don’t seem to be attended to.

In other words if you do any one of those 3 points you are considered to be happy.

In my case “loyal” is the accurate description and with each release I’m curios to find out how long this loyalty will hold.

No one is forcing you to post either , so how about applying the same determination to learning proper English as you have to posting troll posts ?
    i know other 3 laguages .

I hope that you know them better then you know English .

    That's too bad .
Maybe if he was alive he would have taught you to know the difference between RL veterans and gamer ones , and that the former actually deserve respect .

As a reply to your first question, well they are not chasing me away so please dont speak as if you have been apointed the spokesperson of all the gaming comunity of STO.
You should rephrase and use phrases like in my opinion,or IM being chased from the game...

And in regards of your second phrase, well ive been there....maybe its the time for you to move on and take a break, try something else,no sense in playing something that isnt fun isnt it?

STO does not care about veteran players or even players currently in game..We have already spend all of the cash we ever will

Many veteran players have already left !

STO is changing the game to be more profitable and a NEW player will not notice the Nerfs or the grind..And a new NOOB will spend CASH

So the more Veterans who leave is good for cryptic we wont pass along how it used to be.Or how it suks now ect

As a veteran of MMO's I have saw this before and I see it happening here right now

The OP's questions are valid And I just gave the answers

And yes his questions are raised by a great many players he isn't alone and perhaps is in the majority of the player base that have a little time in the game.

So you are basically calling noobs the whole mmo playerbase of the world?
Because i played SWG back in the day and i payed a sub im a noob?
How about spending 10 bucks in DCU because i wanted a special power, also a noob?

Hmmm the way i see it is that you calling noob to the people who is spending money in the game is reallly preposterous.

Majority of the playerbase? beh i call BS on that, unless you have spoken to EVERYONE in the game there is no way to know what they think, unless you're a mind reader which i really doubt.

I didnt mention the world ...your fishing

I played SWG as well and sold my jedi for 500$ when I saw the NGE coming... Flurry server

Noobs spend more money then vets..............I don't spend nothing I know how to get it for free a noob doesn't know..So he spends MUCH more than the average vet does

Magority is right ...you must play this MMO as a single player game

Honestly the Argala nerf had to happen and it comming at some point was more then obvious.

In that regard gamers are kind of like animals (at least a lot of us): in mmos we go for what is most efficient and the game is extremly unbalanced in that regard.

Doing Argala over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and overand over and over and over and over and over and over over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and overand over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and overand over and overand over and overand over and over and over and over again is simply not the point of playing STO (although the exact same problem didnt bother them about infected for years).
This is not what the devs had in mind. And it is absolutley certainly not fun.

Yet a lot of us feel drawn to do that, simply because anything else is a waste of time if you want progress.
So yes, this change comming wasnt only neccessarry but obvious, simply to get the ppl away from doing Argala only.

Still the original problem isnt solved by that: The expertise progession is far to slow.
So adding more expertise to other content like querys is obviously neccessarry... and happening with that patch to.
I have strong doubts that this will do the job. After all, the queries had next to NOTHING in expertise... and three times nothing is still nothing. But we will see.

I don't see it as a valid question.

It's like asking someone why they eat babies....

They question has an unstated assumption that makes it invalid.

Thus Cryptic has no reason to answer your question and reasons to ignore it.
