Took a long break, are my ships still top tier?

majinsyllusmajinsyllus Member Posts: 55 Arc User
Hey guys, I stopped playing STO around 1 month before the Delta Rising expansion. Now I know that alot has happened. I'm only wondering

Are my Vesta/Galor still the best 2 ships in the game? Last I played the Vesta was clearly the best science ship and Galor the best tactical. Or did the new lvl 60 ships overpower them?

Thanks in advance.

Not sure about the Vesta, but I'm pretty sure the Galor hasn't been the best anything since forever.

Both ships are perfectly fine to use now. The Galor gets a free Upgrade, which is nice.

You may want to give some extra attention to the builds and grab a secondary deflector for the vesta if you have been out for a while.

The vesta is still a good ship and the galor is still respectable, but they have been overtaken by the newer T6 Ships. The intel ships have some pretty nasty tricks as do the command cruisers.

The vesta and Galor can still be used, but with the new difficulty levels i'd ease into the new content on "normal: difficulty.
This program, though reasonably normal at times, seems to have a strong affinity to classes belonging to the Cat 2.0 program. Questerius 2.7 will break down on occasion, resulting in garbage and nonsense messages whenever it occurs. Usually a hard reboot or pulling the plug solves the problem when that happens.

Both ships are perfectly fine to use. The vesta is still the most powerful sciship. The galor hasnt been the most (or more) powerful ship since 2013, there are better tactical ship -both cruisers as well as escorts- but that being said it is still more than enough for any content, depending on the build and pilot of course.

They are no longer the 'Best', but they're still perfectly useable.

The Vesta is still very competent for science and one of the better choices still(Vesta, Scryer and Voth Palisade are probably the top picks for Science).

The Galor is fairly far behind the curve(Avenger, Eclipse and Presidio are the current top dogs for Federation offensive energy weapon cruisers).

My Vesta is close to 30,000 dps. Will lose about 4000 of that tomorrow but will once again be unscratchable. So I look forward to it.

My only complaint is scrounging ship traits for her. I would get pilot first, then either level 1 intelligence or command.

I found the breen carrier's trait to be pretty useless with my scorpions. And I can see no point whatsoever in the kobali ship's trait with the vesta.

After this it's $30 a trait or 100,000,000 or so EC.

Summary - Vesta is still the besta.

I own the bundle, fly the T5U Aventine regularly and I approve this message. She does as well. :D

The Vesta and Galor have never been the best in their class. No idea where you got that from. The T5U Galor is just not there compared to other ships, but the T5U Vesta ships are not the worst in their class.

The release of Delta Rising introduced the new Tier 6 starships. By default, your ships are no longer top tier. You can upgrade your current ships to "T5u" or Tier 5 Upgrade. The Galor will be a free upgrade because it is a "prized" lockbox starship. Although Mirror Universe starships come from lockboxes they are not "prized lockbox starships and cannot be upgraded beyond Tier 5; they are considered "consolation prizes". The new T5 Kazon Heavy Raider is also a "consolation prize" lockbox starship, it can be upgraded to T5u, but it will not be free. Your Tier 5 Vesta (and the above mentioned Kazon Heavy Raider) can be upgraded to T5u, but you will need to buy a Ship Upgrade Token which I think costs 750 Zen.

T5u are close to T6 starships, but they are not the same. Delta Rising introduced "Ship Mastery", the more you fly a specific starship the more XP your starship will earn which unlocks up to 5 mastery traits. T5u starships only get 4 mastery traits.

New Boff specializations have been released, they are Intelligence Boffs and the recently released Command Boffs. They have their own unique abilities and T6 starships have one hybrid Boff station which allows you slot in something like a Tactical / Command Boff or Engineering / Intelligence Boff. The seating depends on the ship. These new Commanded and Intelligence Boffs cannot be slotted into any Universal Boff Stations. T5u starships will not allow you to use any Command or Intelligence Boffs because they do not have compatible Boff stations.

While your starships are no longer considered "the best" they are still good starships. When upgraded to T5u they will still be capable of doing most of the content in STO.

Just wanted to chime in on the science Vesta.
She's as beautiful as ever and still one of the top science ships in game.

The best starship for your KDF toon is probably the T6 Mat'ha raptor. Personally, I want a T6 Bird of Prey for my KDF Tactical toon... But I am almost positive that if every KDF player who wants a T6 BoP is willing to drop their pants and bend over, Cryptic will still not release a T6 BoP.

For your Fed toon, your ships are still pretty good. I would say that the Scryer or Pathfinder is probably your best bet. I bought the Delta Rising Ops Pack which includes the Scryer and Experimental Science Vessel (aka Dauntless), I chose the Dauntless because the Scryer looks like a doughnut with engines to me. The Dauntless is slightly more tactical compared to the Scryer so it has 1 less science console in exchange for 1 more tactical console. It is a fair trade and I like looking at the Dauntless much more than looking at the Scryer.

Here is a review of the T5u Wells Temporal Science Vessel. Because it is a "prized" lockbox starship you can upgrade it to T5u for free.

Since you already have it, you might as well continue to use it for now until you find out more info to determine if you want to upgrade your Vesta or simply purchase one of the T6 science ships.

What you talking about? In what alternate reality these were "best". Never in STO :)

Vesta is the apex particle generator ship if you own the whole set.

I already listed the Science ships: Vesta, Scryer and Palisade.

The KDF counterparts to the Fed Battlecruiser fleet are the Mogh, Qib, and Ty'gokor.

With that said, the Mat'ha is probably the meanest offensive ship the KDF have at the moment. It's basically a T6 Kumari with access to Intel Powers(meaning it can super-charge its power levels) and a pretty devastating spinal auto-cannon. In short, it's literally and figuratively a flying gun.

TBH you could not have picked a worse time to take a break, you missed out on two free T6 event ships.
    such a shame. :(

still I am sure you will be fine with your current stuff.

When I think about everything we've been through together,

maybe it's not the destination that matters, maybe it's the journey,

and if that journey takes a little longer,

so we can do something we all believe in,

I can't think of any place I'd rather be or any people I'd rather be with.

    No.
The best sci ship for fed is the new t6 scryer, probably. The vesta is still *very* good, and you can do well in it, but its a little behind now.

the new ships are not level 60, they are 50+ just t6/ power creeped.

Im not sure the galor was ever the best tac ship? Scimitar is holding its own, but the intel "escorts" are not far behind, think the fed is the "phantom" or something.

For tac/dps look for a t6 intel ship that seats COMMANDER intel. For science, use what you will. Be aware that sci is doing well. 2nd deflectors are IN, you can craft some potent ones. Also a new box console is fairly cheap and quite potent: the constriction anchor. Also the crafting system gives a trait at rank 15 and the science one is *extremely* good.

Thanks for the information guys. Unfortunate that i'm not able to sell my Galor :(. The EC would've been quite helpful.

It was very highly regarded as an high-end assault cruiser back before the Elachi Monbosh effectively replaced it.. which was then replaced by the Avenger/Mogh.

The thing about the T6 ships is the traits, some are really helpful and versatile like reprocity from t6 phantom and all hands on deck from commander battle cruiser. After unlocking any trait it can be used on any ship you want to fly, aside from some Intel and command abilities which can really awesome just fly whatever you want all the end content can be done but at least the galore can get a free T5U upgrade.
