I am an old player who is relearning after almost a year of being dormant. I have noticed some GREAT things done with the game, but also noticed some ship modeling that has changed or maybe the Borg have gotten better. I have a Galaxy Class Dreadnought that I used when doing PvE missions involving the Borg. I use to be able to last the entire mission without dying and had no problems fighting of 2-3 Borg vessels. No it seems I have issues fighting of one. I have not changed anything on the ship as far as weapons, consoles or officers yet it seems that I am weaker then I use to be with that ship. I have not noticed it with any other ship. Which is why I question, Did they change something in the dreadnought?
No, but they changed the bad guys with DR. They're mostly a good deal stronger and have many, many times the HP they used to. They did that because we all got a lot stronger.
I'm not sure if you were around for that, but they actually improved the Galaxy-X, by adding a fleet variant, adding a hangar bay, a 2-piece set bonus, and making the ens.tactical Boff station an universal one. So the ship itself is probably better then the last time you used it.
However, with the last expansion there were changes in NPC difficulty and hitpoints, so encounters tend to be a bit more complicated and prolongued now. Additionally you should check your difficulty settings because for ex. the current 'advanced' is far more chalenging than the old 'advanced'. There are 2 new tiers of gear and 10 more levels of progression, so you may want to follow and check on those as well.
The new baseline is 10K, which you can get to with all Mk XII very rare gear. Many do it with even less, but they have a good grasp on all of the changes. Until you get back in the groove, I'd suggest trying out the normal queues. Traits, skills, and the specializations will all help you along the way. Don't know if you are level 60 or not, but that is a large part of all this & may be where you have gotten behind in your absence. As you beef back up, try places like Argala on advanced to gauge your progress.
The following was a answer I gave in another thread which was a bit heated which why it might read a bit blunt, but it IMO covers most endgame related differences between now and a year ago:
My best guess is that a lot of player still have the yesteryears mindset of lvl 50 + maxed repslotskills + fleet T5/lockbox ship with MK12 very rare/ultra rare = endgame ready to faceroll elite and everything beyond that are just fancy additions. Its not. Todays endgame ready is lvl60 + maxed repslotskills, + spaceship skills + maxed primary & secondary spezialization + maxed fleet/Lockbox T5U/ T6 with MK14 ultrarare/epic. I'm pretty sure five guys at that point knowing their ships and the maps as they did in lvl50 max times faceroll current elite as much as back then.
