Research and Development question

Before the newly updated R&D changes, one of my characters was maxed out for ALL the research at Memory Alpha.

With the new changes, is all that progress/training just gone?
Do I have to start at zero like everyone else?

Or is all that progress still the same at Memory Alpha, but I won't have any access to it till I goto Memory Alpha to do more research?

(Note: I have not been back to memory alpha yet since the update, that is why I'm asking)

Thank you.

You get titles and a blue DOff (one of those necessary to craft Aegis items).

Note that old components can be converted to new materials, open the "store" by using the old bits.

You have to start over at zero, just like everyone else. Old progress is only good for titles and the Aegis DOff, as darkjeff pointed out.

Memory Alpha is also closed, you can no longer enter orbit or beam down, it is now just a point on the map and has no relevance currently.
So I get those items you listed, because I had already maxed out my R&D before the update?

Under my R&D now though (when I'm not at Memory Alpha) all my R&D are at level 0, to craft the really good stuff like I used to (Aegis gear being an example if I remember) so I have to level those up from level 0 again? Or do I just have to travel to Memory Alpha where all my MA R&D levels were maxed, where I can make the Aegis gear again?

If all I got for all those hours/days/weeks/etc... of working on my R&D levels, while others did not, was a blue duty officer and a title, then that seems kind of like a "come over here, bend over this table and pull your pants down, here is our R&D update" type of update....for me anyway.

You need to get to lvl 15 in the appropriate schools to craft the "good stuff" now. It can take a while, unless you craft a ton of low level items as you are leveling up. I actually kept a blog about my personal crafting experience here. it's not a "typical" experience, just my own. Others were kind enough to post in some ideas that can speed up the process.

a few things to comment on...

    - it is usually better to make MK II items (not including the special rank 15 items). The upgrade system.. this lets you get more shots at upgrade quality (green, blue, purple, yellow), it costs less time and mats to craft, you have a better % of purple items (100% is easy to get on MK II) and you can make more of them to get random mods that you prefer.

    - rank 15 unlocks a trait for each school. The science one is amazing for anyone using exotic damage. The others are weakish but several increase damage (beams, torps, ground do I think). There are a couple of survival ones too.

    - the current lockbox DO packs give crafting officers (kobali) of purple quality. Buy a few if you want to craft, or just buy the officers (find out which you need).

    - R&D packs have rare mats and components, and they are are cheaper than making or buying some of the more exotic mats (sometimes). Price varies but EC is usually easier to get than dil and purple mats etc (for the tough components).
