Cryptic: Make NPCs on Player Bridges optional

oppulusoppulus Member Posts: 7 Arc User
Short Version:
Make an option to disable NPCs on the Player Bridges.

Long Version/Reasoning:
Whenever I roleplay on the bridge, the NPCs are all the time in my way. Most stations on the bridges are already claimed by NPCs.
It would be great if there was an option to use the bridges without the NPCs. I don't really care how that is done. I imagine it is easy to just have an option: "Do you want to visit the your bridge? Yes, Yes without NPCs, No"
Or make an option on the starship customization screen.

Maybe this is naive but I imagine it rather simple: Don't load the NPCs when loading the map.

I would also like an option on the bridge to switch NPCs on and off at will, but I don't want to ask too much.

This IS already possible by a bug on the Xindi-Aquatic Narcine Dreadnought Carrier so it can not be so hard to do intentionally on other ships (FYI: If you join the Narcine bridge, invite someone on the bridge, then the bridge owner leaves the bridge-> consoles and NPCs disappears. The owner goes back to the bridge and the "furniture" comes back, the NPCs stay away.)

I am a roleplayer. I couldn't care less if you brought out new Zen-Ships. You could offer me Star Destroyers, the Serenity or a shipload of new startreky ships. I would not spend a single Zen on them.
I also don't care about new reputation systems or new weapons or F&E stuff or PvE-content. I was fed up of all that after my first 4 weeks of STO. I only stay for the Roleplay.

What you could really get my money for, is stuff that is usuable for roleplay: Customization of the Starship Interior (to name just one thing). You could totally rip me off if you'd give me the possibility to use Zen to buy different ship interiors that are really customizeable. Like the chance to pick from a hand full of free standard ship's Lounges and then the possibility to buy Ten Forward or new more fancy Lounges for Zen.
Same for Engineering, Ready room, sickbay, quarters and so on. And don't get me started on really placing and designing interior rooms.

You can create the most beautiful and powerful Tier 6 ships and make box keys as cheap as you want- I will never buy any of those. But make the ship interior customizeable and I won't stop spending money until I got it all!
I would even pay for the option of switching off the NPCs I described above!

Even better, why not a "stations" setup for the interior, where -none- is an option.

It supports your empty bridge request, but also lets you hide your Nausican pirate Fed boff that you only use because no Fed races get good space traits.

Your bridge interior loadout could also control which boffs appear during missions to give reports.

Something I made up a while back that would both fix this problem AND make money for Cryptic: http://sto-forum.perfectworld.com/showthread.php?t=862511 ;)

I kind of gave up on the whole bridge issue but I think my personal longest staying request for sto it to rule the bridge seating, customize which bo is on which station.
That would/could obviously include the option to show no bridge officer at all.

Good point. I'd pay some zen if that would motivate Cryptic to offer an account-wide "customize ALL ship crew" unlock.

If they did this and offered space traits for all races, I could set up ships with just the crews I want, not the crews I need to improve DPS.

Imagine being able to setup up an all-Vulcan (Bajoran, Klingon, whatever) crew without it hurting your DPS.

No need for Romulans and Nausicans on your Fed or KDF ship.

while I sympathize you realize since this desire has something to do with ship interiors it will be ignored hard by Cryptic right?

    #1)

Make Foundry missions able to launch from any individual bridge or all bridges generically.

    #2)

Update the Foundry maps to include all bridges.

    Voila! Empty bridge for roleplay.

Though I agree that a simple "empty ship interior" option at the ship tailor should be fairly minimal effort.

CUSTOM bridge officer placements on ship interiors might be an issue. (I can see some ways to do that now the more I think about it.)

But EMPTY absolutely seems viable and realistic as a request, from my perspective.

Each console could have a "man station" interact.
You hit it and select which Boff you want to use, with none being an option.

This would be best. Just like trophies.

Or they could make every position configurable from a single console in the ready room... that way there's not glowing consoles all over the bridge.

Yep, been asking for this for years. Been ignored for years.

How I would love to have my helm officer at the helm, instead of my engineer.
How I would love to have my Engineer in ENGINEERING.
How I would love to have my Science Officer at the science station, instead of my Doctor.
How I would love to have my Doctor in Sick Bay.
How I would love to have my character's "wife" in his quarters, instead of on the bridge.

How I would love to put my OWN souvenirs in my ready room and quarters. Even Captain Jellico was able to get rid of the fish...

How I would love to have my crew wearing the same uniforms I do. Even better, how nice would it be if the wandering crew was based on my DO roster (so they might all be Andorian, for example).

I could go on and on, but I think the point is made.

And, despite the point being made, I know full well it will be ignored AGAIN.

You have just hit some of the biggest things I want from ship interiors... To go along with it the uniforms of those in fleet holdings should have some options available too, I don't want to be some starfleet clone.

I am not asking for much. I have a lot of wishes, but I am not asking for shiny things and stuff, I am merely asking for tiny option.
I don't want to ask for outrageous things, just a tiny option, something you can do on one bridge by bug.
It is not a bug- it's a feature! Make that bug/feature possible for every bridge!

I support the idea of being able to click away boffs you don't want to see: not on your bridge, and not on your popup screen. Always getting these Rom Embassy boffs, as a Fed, simply because they're the only ones being SRO.

I understand Tacofangs when he says creating entirely new interiors is too costly. Chosing the visibility of certain boffs, however, would be a minor adjustment, comparatively, yet be a major QOL improvement.

    +1
