Question: Adding 'I.R.F' as a Designator

A lot of Romulan Warbirds already have the I.R.W option, however the new T6 Command ships only have USS or RRW listed.

Any chance we could get I.R.W. added as a possible designator? Edited to correct the IRF issue.

    You mean IRW right?

The T6 Warbirds were not constructed by the former Romulan Star Empire, so they would be given the RRW prefix instead. They are a solely Republic design.

Yeah, but I'm almost certain the other Republic designs have the I.R.W. option. As long as we're campaigning for prefixes, we're missing the canon P.W.B. prefix from DS9.

The Daeinos Warbird Destroyer does not have the IRW Prefix for the same reason, and we had this same exact conversation about that ship, too.

Any ship in the game that has the IRW prefix has been constructed or in use by the former Romulan Star Empire.

Any Romulan Republic designs lack that prefix option. This includes the T6 ships, and the Ar'kif*.

*I do not own the Ar'kif, so I could be 100% wrong on this part. But from what I remember it is a Romulan Republic design, and also lacks the IRW prefix option.

Interesting, I never realized that. I'll check my Ar'kif when I get in game.

    -edit-

The Ar'kif does lack the option. Case closed, I guess. (U.S.S. being available on Republic designs bugs me more than I.R.W. being an option would, heh.)

Yes, I meant to say 'IRW' instead of 'IRF' thanks for the correction there :)

I suppose to keep in line with STO-lore having just the RRW for the new command ships would make sense. Its not like the fractured Romulan Star Empire from the STO storyline has the time/resources to make new ships as it is.

Just figured I would toss out the idea, but as you guys pointed out it wouldn't make much sense for that to be there.

Just to clarify, I am actually all for more ship prefixes, even if they do not make sense from a lore perspective.

I am perfectly A-OK with the IRW prefix being used for all Republic designs. I am even for the FMS prefix being added to the Ferengi Marauder and shuttle. I am for the FMS prefix being added to any federation ship to signify it was purchased or somehow 'acquired' by the Ferengi Alliance. I will say the same thing for the OSS prefix, IGV prefix, or VSS prefix. Nothing is technically stopping any of these regional governments from slapping their own flag on a vessel they have purchased, captured, or were donated, in the same way nothing is stopping the Federation or KDF from slapping USS or IKS on captured Dominion warships.

Just stating that from a lore perspective, this is why it is.

Give us our 43-character ship names (like on the starter ships) and we won't need prefixes at all, since we could just type what we want into the name.

I'm going to second this idea...honestly it seems like a silly thing for them to control the prefixes because it doesn't affect your game play experience at all. (At least I don't think it does).

That would open up the door for people creating their own designators that are fleet specific or something to that effect.
