Free gift for returning players.

khanharnkhanharn Member Posts: 37 Arc User
I took a break from STO but came back a little earlier then planned due to the returning player Email I received, giving me free stuff.

On the Email it also said "We Want To Celebrate With You!

Five years has a pretty big significance in Star Trek lore. As a thank you for your support, we would like you to celebrate with us with a Welcome Back package, our gift to you! Redeem this code below, claim your pack in the C-Store, and see what's new in STO!

HDJ757Z

Want more? All you have to do is log in before 10PM Pacific on February 15, 2015, and we will send you another gift"!

Now the code worked but I have still not recived the other gift that I should have got before the 15th (I was back in game on the 10th).

Does anyone know what this free gift is and when we are due to get it? As the date in the Email has been and gone.

I could not find any info on this anywhere.

Someone recently made a thread about this. Apparently, the extra thing was some XP boosts, maybe even a key or two, and some other stuff that could convince you to login for a few days. From what I saw, it would by no means make me a frequent player again, but it would at least convince me to stay logged in longer than my managing the usual fleet leader stuff.
I completed a 2-man CSE, ISE, and KASE, Optionals included. And I soloed Winter Invasion.

Everything you mentioned came with the returning player pack. That was the first gift. I have not been sent a 2nd gift. I got 3 keys, free ship upgrade and a few other things in one box but no second gift.

I wish they would post more info on this, to clear up any confusion. Feels like I'm missing out on something :). I opened a ticket so hopefully I will get a response before the 6th year anniversary.

The optimism is strong in this one, I shall inform the Underground to take this one in before the evil Lord Geko thus hears of this young one and smites then with nerf!

I shall speak with Taco the Fang and Trendy the Crazy Tribble Lady to help us with this promised one!

So, you got a bunch of free stuff for not playing the game, and you're ******** that you didn't get even more free stuff...

    Wow...

Maybe I should stop playing the game so I can get free stuff too... sounds like if I play, I work my butt off for nothing and if i quit playing they'll send me free stuff...

    Where's the logic?

The bonus reward has not been sent yet. We had to gather the information of those that got the original email and then qualified for the bonus reward.

We hope to have this sent out later today but that is pending the receipt of the last bit of info we need to send it.

    Thanks for your patience.

Why did only a small set of players get the invite back? Not one single friend of mine got an invite. In fact I don't know anyone who has the invite back email.

    Hey Adamanteus,

How about a "free gift for loyal players" email...

For being a subscriber and logging in every day for the last two years, here's a promo code good for 3 keys, an upgrade token, and...

Or something along that line... why are we rewarding non-players??

We do different promotions at different times throughout the year. This one happened to be for a specific group of players.

You know at some point they will need to make a lot of new KDF stuff being that right now either every player owned it already or it was in a lockbox everyone already got a hold of lol. Although I won't hold my breathe for them to do that they might just be having a going out of business liquidation sale like the furniture companies have every day.

What group? My friends that left 3 years, 2 years, 1 year, 6 months ago didn't get emails. I told all my friends and family to check mails to rejoin us and none got the invites. Even checked my secondary account I stopped using and nothing on that email or in the junk box.

From my point of view all the promotion did was drive away friends who did play the game but quit due to how the promotion made them feel ripped off. While not bringing back any friends who did leave :(

We do this type of remarketing in the software industry all the time.

It's never a blanket promotion, and is generally a select group based on a number of criteria which target optimal customers who may have used the product a certain number of hours, or who have paid into the system at some point.

You may feel entirely that it's inappropriate or crass, but I assure you it works.

Welcome to the real world ;)

All I can think of is the system they used it broken or they pick tiny obscure groups. In the case of my brother he was a subscriber and has not had 1 single re invite to the game. You would think people who spent money on the game would get targeted at some point. Same for my secondary account not one single re invite.

No one quit playing because your friends or their friends didn't get invited back. They quit because they were experiencing lag and rubberbanding that made the game unplayable for them.
What lag or rubberbanding? That's very rare in our timezone. I don't even remember the last time I came across any lag. There was a couple of days of rubberbanding at the start of the current event but that was fixed fast and changing zones fixed it when it did happen for those few days.

As for why people I know quit. How can you tell me I am wrong when you have not even spoken to those people? A number of people have been upset at how the promotion was handled. I admit my sample size is very small but from my point of view the promotion did more harm then good. But its not the promotion its self its been a string of events from the way the marks was handled in the bonus dill event, to broken items, broken crafting, the promotion was just what pushed some people over the edge.

It's entirely possible you don't fit the criteria.

Many are excluded by IP address. I doubt you use two separate IPS for your accounts, and unless your brother lives elsewhere (entirely possible) that may account for the same reason.

A company I used to work for had 80 millions subscribers in their database. Recently they had to exclude 15% of that base simply because of a law change in Canada. They didn't have explicit permission under Canadian law to remarket to them.

The US company I currently work for has a policy not to remarket to any account older than 6 months.

It's subjective. Just because you were left out doesn't mean it was broken.

Hey - I was peeved that after dropping $700 in the past 3 months I didn't get the first-timers bonus purchase gift. Three keys are three keys.

Lag and rubberbanding can be caused by many things. The HUD lag for example is recognized as a major issue, with the devs opening commenting on it on Reddit and Twitter in the past 24 hours.

It's real for many players. Just because something doesn't impact you doesn't make it any less real.

Pretending it isn't happening to other players just because you aren't experiencing it doesn't mean it isn't happening, and doesn't change the fact that Cryptic has officially admitted to the community that they are trying to fix it (unsuccessfully) on Cryptic's end.
I am not pretending it isn’t happening to other players. Those of us who play in time zones that don't match the US peak time tend to see a lot less lag and rubber banding if any. I said it’s not happening to me or the group of players I used to fly missions with. So your reason for why they quit is wrong.

People quit for many different reasons sometimes a group of reasons. I was only talking about my friends and like I said that's a very small sample size.

So much drama about giving free stuff to people who have not played STO after a certain period of time. It is kinda like a drama queen convention.

I suppose some people just don't understand that this is a marketing ploy to reignite interest in STO for players who have stopped playing the game. By giving away free stuff to lure people back to give STO another chance Cryptic is attempting to build up it's player base in the hopes that a larger player base means better potential to generate revenue. Not everyone who comes back to STO will stick with it, but primary goal of the free stuff to convince some of them to try the game again in the hopes that whatever have caused them to stop playing STO in past has been rectified.

To those people who are complaining about not getting free (excluding the recent 4 day pre-anniversary giveaway event) stuff because they are currently playing STO, then the solution is very simple....

Completely stop playing STO immediately and hope that in 6 to 12 months time Cryptic will send to an e-mail giving you free stuff to come back and play STO. Problem solved.

No it's not. No one is quitting just because someone else didn't get an invite back with freebies. It's just an excuse drama lamas use to get attention because they know the real reasons for why they are quitting are being ignored by Cryptic.
Perhaps for some but for others you are wrong. They feel ripped off for getting nothing for being loyal while none loyal customers get £20 ish worth of free goods.

This is a F2P game. "Loyalty" means nothing, it's a game about quick bucks and impulse purchases. "Loyal customers", like people with a LTS, are a burden since they get free stuff and paid two hundred bucks yeeeears ago. People that jump in and buy the delta pack, the romulan pack, all the 3-packs, bank space etc. - those are the stars.

I am nearly 1300 days old. Took a little over a year off and was drawn back in by DR.... Must say thank you. At my former max lvl I felt like a farmer with nothing to work torwards. The soft cap traits system is genious and infinetly upgradable into the future. Upgradeable gear system is awesome. The most recent changes to the Boff system and training are how it should have always been. My hat goes off to you all, even Taco, that man leaves the censor off his mouth in zone but hes a good guy from what I hear. Keep up all the great work its appreciated.

We do different promotions at different times throughout the year. This one happened to be for a specific group of players.

This is why some players feel like other (targeted) former players are the prodigal "sons" for this game. We get a freebie event containing items many of us have already bought or was given in a previous give-away, but the "wayward" players are brought back in with useful rewards (and a lot more of it).

Out of this last freebie, only the first day's item (free R&D Pak) was of any value to my account (I already paid for the rest). This routine of just handing out the low interest items does not make the long-term players feel any more valuable than those that just joined the game and get these same items for free (because they never shelled out money for them).

If you want the veteran players to feel needed then give rewards that we need, not the ones you still have sitting on the virtual shelf.
