There is a safety check already for dismissing the whole ship [...]
There are 2 problems with this 'safety check'
    1. It does not differentiate between empty and geared ships, it looks the same in any case.
    2. Its text does not mention equipped items at all. It only talks about reclaimable ships and loadout slot refunds, which might lead a player to assume the gear will be automatically unequipped and moved to inventory upon ship-deletion (especially now when there's a similar feature in the reverse direction: simple ship transition).

As do I - but as noted, the confusing thing is that they do still appear when I equip a loadout that used them, but they remaind greyed-out, and the text states that they're equipped on another ship.

I don't know; I don't expect anyone to agree - but I am convinced that they could do something about this, but won't - because saying "tough luck" might prompt some to do what is necessary to replace said items, regardless of cost. And I am NOT spending any more time/money buying zen for Dil to upgrade items or purchase rep equipment that I once owned and lost through a silly, and apparently entirely unforgivable, mistake.

Though, saying that - with my primary character having now lost all the equipment that made it my primary character, I can't muster the enthusiasm to log into the game at all.

I agree with you. The stern warning you get pertains to the discharge of your actual ship: they don't mention your precious gear. One could infer that it might be lost, but they don't actually say so. Were it me, even losing 1 gold item, like my Tachyo or something, would cause me to stop playing any further: we're talking lots of real money here.

Besides, with Simple Ship Transitions and all and/or loadouts, they already have plenty of mechanisms in place to pull gear off a ship automagically. I say it's high time they added a pinch of said magic to discharging ships too, and prevent a lof of grief.

It may not be mentioned specifically, but I have smoe trouble believing that this is reyan01's problem - I think even if stood there, he wouldn't have read it, because no one that has dismissed ships a few time will read through the dialog a second time.

Most people do in fact not read a dialog the first time, and just press the first thing that seems like a way to get rid of the dialog. (That's why the dialog even forces you to enter the name - you have to figure out what the dialog wants of you, so you have to read it at least once.)

I would recommend trying to ask support on this, but I could see every chance that they won't help (either because they can't due t technical limitations, or - in this case maybe even more likely - due to policy. The dialog is already designed to make it hard to accidentally use it.). He may have already tried it, I don't know from his story.

I agree that it would be a useful feature if the ship was just automagically stripped of its gear (it's not like the game as otherwise problems removing gear or unslotting BOFFs, right?), but ... I didn't get the impression from reyan01 that he didn't know how this worked.

Anyway, we should get back on the actual topic - the idea of "auto-stripping" gear before dismissing a BOFF or Ship can and should probably be suggested to the devs.

Apologies for drifting off topic to reply to a post.
Cmdr Intel needs a hell of a nerf.

I don't think suggesting to nerf one subset of ships will do anything to address the issue of game balance as a whole. Nerfing that implies nullifying everything that makes them be a new tier of ships. This isn't to say I agree with the idea of having new ship tiers, but then we'd have to look at lockbox and lobi ships too, and then gear upgrades, and R&D gear, and so on.

Now I don't have upgraded R&D gear with the right mods, have never been able to open-PVP and abandoned all hope for it in favor of PVP in other games that are balanced, and I'm sure you're right about intel abilities being much too powerful under those scenarios, just as I see my intels on my alts outperforming the T5Us at least in DPS from the few parses done so far.

However, the way you put it, calling for a "nerf" sort of reminds me of a topic reply by a recent poster who suggested they remove carriers from the game because pets to them adding DPS is wrong.

I would probably dismiss a great portion of my Fleet ships, if I'd known they would have been displaced by T6 ships. I originally purchased them out of nostalgia and appreciation for the early-game vessels which seems like it was a lifetime ago.

However, in their present state of being hangar queens they simply remind me not of how much fun I had years ago when I was first playing the game (and now able to take them out for a spin in the end game and still be competitive and viable), but they remind me of the highly questionable ethical monetization practices Cryptic has made their current policy.

I'm kind of in the same boat. I had basically collected a lot of my favorite fleet level ships and enjoyed flying them around from time to time, but now I don't want to upgrade all these fleet t5s to the dead end t5u. I also don't wanna fly any of them either. I actually logged on today and was looking at them thinking I should dismiss most of them since I'll probably never fly any of them again, but nostalgia kept me from the dismiss button. At least for now.

I'd like the ability to "repack" a claimed ship and store and use on an Alt .

This could act both as a way to use your Alts to store ships, and for those of us who opened a Lockbox ship on the / a wrong toon it'd give us a chance to get more enjoyment out of said expensive purchase that we're not likely to buy again just to play it on another toon .

    ... just a thought ...

Right now, the Risian ships are on my chopping block should they release a must-have ship anytime soon. Next would be the Breen escort and tge the cruiser. I'd keep the Battle Crab though.

i already done did. I tossed out my dyson, my free (lifetimer) level 50 ship, a mirror ship, my vet destroyer, and a couple that I don't fly that I can reclaim.

A few are probably in line to get the axe as time goes on.

The free Obelisk will probably have to go, despite equipping it all in antiproton and flying it around from time to time.

Ferengi shuttle on my main, because quite frankly - I never fly it, and really regret not having opened it on my Ferengi character many moons ago.

I'll probably have to start chopping at lower tier ships, even though I like having them around for low tier runs.

Some way to repack unique ships would be nice. That way I could take them out and use them one at a time (ie Risian ships during summer events, Breen in the winter, etc).

    buff? I'm astonished :|

The T5U thing you're calling is fine, some T6s need to be tuned down to match.

    Well, I am an idiot.

Removed a ship from my ship slot earlier (tac version of the new command cruiser - discharged it to swap to the sci version). Sadly, had a number of items on the ship I discharged that I forgot to remove - rep items, MkXIV items. And can't access them now. If I select a ship that had said items in it's loadout, it says those items are equipped on another ship - presumably the one I discharged.

Feel like such a fool - should have just increased the number of ship slots I have :(
Given that the data is still apparently tagged in your account, I'd go ahead and file a request with CS, see if maybe they can't get your stuff back. It's not like you can't prove you had it, after all. And they can't shove you out an airlock for trying...

When you discharge a ship and get the dialog box to enter name you are staring at the ship in ship selection where all the equipment is visible.

To the OP's point, I'll be ditching the last free T1 ships we got just before the anniversary event went live. I already stripped the consoles, and the ships are reclaimable. Not upgradeable = useless, especially at T1. I'd pay real money to upgrade my mirror ships! :(

    Oooooohhhhh you went there ;)

Same here rip out the console if it is useful and dismiss. I also get rid off two from the three pack ships as I onlly want to fly one varient so get the consoles/weapons then dismiss. I think I still have my Mirander though it has been a while since I visited the ship selector to check.

I kept it because in the old days of the clusters it was great for farming crafting gear given it stops faster than my higher tiered ships.
