The fun is gone...

5 years ago I bought into this game and I absolutely loved it so much so that I bought a lifetime subscription. Back then it was Fed or Klingon and you had 3 basic types of ships. Your captain type mattered depending on the type of ship you flew. Escorts which would eat Sci ships. Sci ships ate Cruisers. Cruisers ate Escorts. Your bridge officer skills actually worked. The Rommies were the bad guys along with the Borg and Cardassians ect.....We the players knew where we stood.

Fast Foward 5 years

Now we have to grind and re-grind to get back the powers we once had "IF" you can even get them back at all. I am not the sharpest tool in the shed but I do realize when I have been had both time wise and monetarily. This latest round of changes is draconian to those of us who have been here for years.

**THIS IS NOT STAR WARS** This is total TRIBBLE pulling up to ESD and seeing all these foriegn lockbox ships. or flying into Empire controlled space and seeing all of these enemy ships just zooming by unchallenged.

Gee,,, my guess is they are planning on us flying around in Borg TAC Cubes by next Summer.

That is NOT at all Star Trekish.... Not everybody joins the Federation. You act as if this is Star Wars where everyone is either Empire or Rebel. The Federation traditionally has had a ton of enemies who were on thier own, and not a conglomeration of cooperatives bent on the destruction of the Federation. This game gets worse every expansion. Who will he have to fight once we have beaten the Iconians?

Things that would help to fix the game:

1. Give the Romulans/Remans thier own faction seperate from the The Klingon Empire and the Federation.

2. Give the Cardassians/Dominion thier own faction and territory across the wormhole.

3. Give the Ferengi a Merchant Profiteer's Trader faction with missions based on running legal and questionable cargos across enemy factions territories.

4. Give the different factions CONTENT this will make players invest in the different factions both in time and money.

5. Put the Veteran Human Bridge Officer in the C-store available for purchase by lifetime members. The same should be done for the other factions too. That way you would sell more lifetimes and collect coin on the officers too.

6. There should be a faction specific locbox upgrade to take a ship to T-6. Some of us like flying our old ships and do not have a T-6 option to them but would buy the upgrade if it were available.

7. Give us a Maquis faction

8. Give us more Foundry tools like a cutaway scene and a sound board for example.

9. Bring back tribble testing before going live with TRIBBLE like the Anniversary fiasco.

10. Give us a live Moderator in the zones like ESD that can instantly ban the spammers who are violating the TOS like the guys who promote E.P.G.A.L

If you do those 10 things you will increase the life of the game tremendously and draw in more paying customers.

1,2,3,4,7: Cryptic doesn't have the manpower to do this or the number of players to support this. Therefore, future factions will always be a couple of social areas, some ships, some costumes, and some missions resulting in everyone being friends at the end doing the same content for endgame just like the Romulan mini-faction.

Exactly how many players are necessary to have a faction?

I'm sorry but this is ridiculous.
Why not a dog lover faction? How about a blonde people faction? Or simply a faction for every player? With full content, of course.

They couldn't deliver enough content when they had 2 factions, hell.... Since they mostly ignored the kdf and most is shared content now anyway they couldn't deliver enough for one (which is why adding the romulans... As much as I enjoy playing them.... Was simply stupid).

For the zone chat moderator... Are there really people who haven't turned that one off yet?

The only thing i deffinitly agree on is the t6 thing.

They really should just implement an optional UI overlay that changes what people see to faction-specific ships for those still screaming about "muh Immersion". So that that Romulan Sheshar looks like a Scimitar (and when separated, 2 Scimitars), or that KDF Manasa looking like a Raptor, or a Federation Astika looking like the Avenger.

Even though it's already been hammered in that all those alien ships have been captured and repurposed for use by the factions. As well, it wouldn't harm those other players who wish to Immerse/RP themselves as faction-aligned Mercs using captured/stolen alien tech.

As to the rest of your rant:

    1. Too late. They already intended to make all 3 factions united against the Iconian threat. There will be more Faction-related missions, but all factions would be able to participate (it was mentioned there's a KDF-related plotline in the works, that has the alliance working together to resolve).

    2. This one would be reasonable, but how long until they're made frenemies with the Alliance against the Iconians?

    3. Could be done as a race-specific subquest series. If only to get more Ferengi races played by those interested in pretending to be part-time Black Market associates. But an entire faction would be pointless, for the same reasons as 1.

    4. Cryptic's Circle of Profit doesn't see the value of that.

    5. A reasonable request, and one that also would make Cryptic money.

    6. Devs flat out said no, but you can expect T6 analogs (Guardian to Ambassador/Galaxy) or T6 versions (Pathfinder) in the future. As well, the Pathfinder proved that they could make $30 easy over selling some $10 or or $20 theoretical T6 Upgrade. Though they'd make more money if they required you use the T5U Token, then used a T6 Token (the T6 Token being Account Bind on purchase).

    7. See 2.

    8. Another reasonable request.

    9. " " "

    10. " " " Although it still wouldn't stop the spam (like how it doesn't stop the spam in other MMOs).

I would say it is a percentage of players rather than a specific number. The reason Cryptic has backed off the Klingon only content is because it takes just as much effort to develop those levels, but they are underutilized by the player base, so it becomes a waste of resources. If all the factions share the same missions, but with minor tweeks, then Cryptic can do more with its developers.

Gecko pretty much said as much in a recent Podcast. There is just not enough interest or time to have more factions. Since recent updates people have been deleting alts and sticking with their mains more than anything else.

Also if you looked at the poll results as they stand in the sticky at the top of the page, exploration looks to be the favoured choice by the majority at the moment with Foundy coming up last.

That's what happens when you make the game so alt unfriendly.

    It wasn't always like this...

    Uh, what year was THAT?

I remember back when everything was bound to character, and you couldn't transfer much of anything to alts....

1: If they were going to do this they would have done it already.

2: maybe a minifaction like Romulans.

3: this seems pointless in general

4: IE... invest in writing more story missions that people will play once and forget about.... not likely

6: why T6? That'd require mastery traits to be assigned to those ships....

7: considering that the Maquis are criminals.... no. Any admirable traits the Maquis once had went away at the end of the Dominion war.

8: they already said that was too hard to be workable.

9: not likely, since it's supposed to be a surprise.

    0) People would probably fly more faction ships if they were 1) as cheap as box ships (just EC to buy... that is HUGE vs costing 30 bucks or half a mil dil), and 2) if there *were* any ships. There are not even ANY solid performing dps ships for kdf in t6 (a low tac console/seating "cruiser" with intel, the tac ship can't seat surgical strikes, and the 3 command package which is not dps themed). Roms got a gem in the faeht, but the faction still lacks a science ship and always has and apparently always will.

1 - 4) there is a serious lack of uniforms/fru-fru, ships, and more for both KDF and ROM. Adding more factions without growing these is a really bad idea. It would be a fine idea, if they had the time to do it right, but until the existing stuff is brought up to par, its pointless to mention it.

    5) ? who cares. Only a moron would buy lifetime to get a bridge officer ... esp a human. Ooo... leadership, now I can haz leet deeps?

    6) A similar idea: Let universal seats slot intel and command.

    8) cutscenes suck. I won't even play borg DC because of them. In what world do I have constant out of body experiences? Barf... I hate being yanked out of combat into a movie, its disorienting.

    10) disable zone chat. A simple fix that does not cost time and money ... and solves a bunch of problems all at once.

Factions won't do anything to bring in players. Even introducing the Romulans didn't add much. As the graphs showed they was less than the KDF in numbers.

Pretty sure the recent infographic showing 73% Fed players, 16% KDF, 11% Rom tells you why 'more factions' isn't on the planning board.

We have factions, and roughly 1/4 of players use them. (I use them, I like them, but the obvious trend is Fed.)

In fact, in most MMO's I have played, it seems the 'good guys' get 70% or more of the players and 'everybody else' gets the leftovers.

I'm still having all kinds of fun. I feel sorry for you people who aren't, but I can't make you have fun, and even the devs can't make you have fun. Whether you find something or not is entirely up to you.

    1. A wonderful idea, assuming of course that this is really what 'everyone wants.' Now I highlight that because, it seems that not everyone wants to play a Star Trek game about the races that were never the focus of the shows. In fact it seems that more people seem to be hung up on interacting 'in the universe of this small group of like 50 people' and not the wider universe at all. yes it would be nice, and maybe some of the reason that people stay away from the factions has to do with the fact that they (really read that as the KDF) were neglected so long. Otherwise, it feels like sometimes that people play Romulans because they can be l33+ DPS boats, and not much else.

    2. Wonderful, but this falls in the perview of the first thing. Also I have no desire to play a changling, or for the Dominion. I would rather an expanded storyline involving interacting with these Empires/Republics then actually a faction for them.

    3. What about the Federation traders, whom we have a rich history dating back to the Cargo ships of the 22nd century? Or the free traders who introduced us to tribbles? I don't disagree that a non 'military' system would be a great change of pace and more imersive in the overall universe (once you deal with that pesky detail about no money (even though as a trader you had to somehow get something of value for your stuff)) but I say you cannot limit it just to Ferengi.

    4. This one sadly is a victim of economics, its far cheaper to make something for everyone then to
    5. Put the Veteran Human Bridge Officer in the C-store available for purchase by lifetime members. The same should be done for the other factions too. That way you would sell more lifetimes and collect coin on the officers too.

    6. I dont agree that all ships should be able to be brought up to the same standards as the newest ships out of drydock.

    7. Why? Against whom?

    8. You wont get a complaint from me, but I would much rather more tool functionality then these specific items.

    9. This is a long term gripe of mine that needs to somehow needs to be addressed.

    10. If wishs were like fishes

    Completely agree man.

Recently I posted about how if this game went console it would change everything in this title because console gamers don't let things like this happen to their games. They have direct control over how their games are developed because if something dirty happens in the design they boycott the game to the point of forcing the hand of the developers.

I've already seen the typical crazies posting on your thread the ones that think absolutely nothing is wrong with the pay to progress model and that's the problem with our current community. There's a new breed of gamer that these developers are trying to exploit, the ones not smart enough to realize when they've been had. When they've been manipulated by hype or the illusion of reason.

This game is now a grind fest with elements of a korean style pay to progress exploit system.

Even most 5 year olds will recognize a bad deal when presented with one but for some reason, the crazies I've seen posting lately just can't seem to fathom that there's several things wrong here and I don't mean to sound abrasive towards them but something must be done to get them to wake up.

I want exploration for federation again and it can easily be done in a Firefall style manner.

I want items you can actually use for GPL.

I want there to be actual reasons for the science class to exist.

None of which is happening because of the JJ Abrams who think it should all be explosions and battle scenes and to hades with the lore or science of it all!
