The new Starfleet Command Cruisers look familiar! :D

wimpomanwimpoman Member Posts: 42 Arc User
The new T6 Command Cruisers for Starfleet look awfully similar too Shawn Weixelman's Frontier class, his entry into the "Design The Next Enterprise" competition.

http://bertsingels.blogspot.co.uk/2012/03/starship-enterprise-concept-by-shawn.html

I guess the devs liked his design, even if it didn't get to be the Big E.

    Armada 2 :P

And yeah I agree, there may be a few common points with that Enterprise F submission...but I do like them better than that submission.

I still hate the design direction the Federation shipyards are going with. That damnable secondary hull sticking past the pylons is what's keeping me from tossing $60 at Cryptic for the Fed ships.

You noticed that too? I loved that design and the new ships follow it pretty well.

Your right it does look similar to that ship. The Eng and Sci versions of these new ships look the best.

I may get one in the future.

Yeah, I do see the similarities. Which is a good thing in my book, since I like Fuzzy's design.

I hadn't got to see them up close yet in the store or from pics. But some of them looks like a 2410 version of the Excelsior as well.

If it actually looked like that, I'd finally be inclined to buy a Fed ship....within a heartbeat of seeing it That thing is gorgeously intimidating.Unfortunately, the new ships aren't quite as bold.

The configuration was certainly an inspiration. Namely the pylons being attached at the rear of the saucer.

In a similar sense, the Oberth is built similarly (sans the neck), so there's at least some foundation in canon for the choice to place the pylons & nacelles where they are.

Side view of the Command Cruisers, certainly look like they were inspired by the Excelsior Class. Being an Excelsior Captain myself, I'd be inclined to purchase one of them: If not for the fact, that the appearance I want, requires that I buy THREE ships to mix/match the way I see fit. And I simply won't pay for that.

What happened to having multiple costume options per ship? Went out the airlock with Free-to-play conversion?

Yeah, people don't seem to understand design is subjective. Almost every ship that comes out gets tons of hate for being ugly, yet in game you can see most flying around. Someone likes them.

The command cruisers are ugly too but yeah the original is downright nightmare fuel.

I bought them, and they look alright. I was however disappointed with the nacelles. I didn't realize there were 4 of them, and they just look so cartoony. If the nacelles were like the ones in the OP pic, I'd be much happier.

captjamjamz, would it be possible to offer a dual nacelle option instead of the quad nacelle version?
The lower nacelles seem to be entirely detached from the main ship structure and are just an extension of the upper pair.

You have done similar options for other ships like the Trident class science vessel where you can deactivate the lower sensor pod, same for the Luna class, I believe, where you can deactivate the sensor pod on top and the Romulan T2 warbird where you can ditch one set of the dual wings in the ship tailor

I would love to go with traditional dual nacelle configuration. For me that would elevate the design from good to great. :)

As it is, I find the nacelles to be too dominant of the entire hull structure.
