Why is gameplay gated (jailed in Tau Dewa)?

itpalgitpalg Member Posts: 340 Arc User
You are able to get the racing daily at what...level 10?...yet even at 15 my Fed aligned Romulan can not get out of Tau Dewa without using the current anniversary "Transwarp" button to Q.
I am told I must advance more when I hit the zone wall (which hooray they are going away with season 10!).

If I do the racing daily for EC, I would have to go around the sector or risk being jailed for re-entering it.

I can't go mining for dilithium without doing this workaround.

What would I do if this event wasn't in place?

You mean other than levelling to level 20? (I think it's 20)

I'm sorry but the Tour the universe isn't good for ECs either, a solo instance of Gorn Minefield or Starbase 24 on a lvl 50+ fed toon would give you a console you can mail to yourself that you can sell on your Rommy toon (to yourself if you need the ECs right at that very moment) would generate more ECs than a TTU run. alternatively there's the account bank if you are either subbed at all or have bought the 10 slots for 1k Zen.

You have to continue following the story arc, from memory, once you pick a faction to align with, this restriction is also removed...
The entitlement is strong in these forums...

As I said, the alignment is already set, so it must be a mission/higher ranking gating.

Romulans have to complete the mission Bigger Picture (level 13) to leave Tau Dewa.

So that new players aren't heading off to sector blocks where they won't find anything to do and not know how to get back.

Games always tend to restrict you in the beginning, so that you have fewer options to worry about. It's basicallly the same reason why you start with only 3 BOFF slots and 3 weapon slots.

Also, a neat side effect - EC and Dilithium farmers need to do some extra work to really start their farming.

I'm not even sure this restriction will remain after the sector space changes. It's one of the questions on my list.

I guess I am too much of an original MMOG player to understand the logic.

EQ, EQ II, LoTRO, etc have no restrictions on where you can go.

I remember jolly times in another game when me and a couple of friends got our freash lvl 1 characters and embarked on a long journey from our starting areas to meet up somewhere else and begin leveling there. It was exciting to sneak through lvl 20-30 zones :D

The reason RR characters are "gated" is (spoiler) your character discovers New Romulus. If I recall correctly, you're actually in a different instance where there is no New Romulus but Dewa III.

The previous reply of having to do The Bigger Picture is why you are gated.

The current generation of developers knows nothing about that.

If anything, years of casual complaints have led them to completely eliminate those sorts of activities.

I'm reminded of taking my level 10/11 Black Orc into the Empire RvR lake player camp in WAR; tons and tons of fun, but all it takes is that one casual whining about how you're not supposed to be allowed to do that and the developers crack down.

    No, definitely not .
If you do, you are likely a cheating hoarder who does not play the game the way Cryptic decided you should play the game this week .
Last week is irrelevant , next week is irrelevant , you must comply .

Sad but true. Although I dislike the "casual" thing, I mean I do play "casually" as well. Those are games and I don't make a living playing them. But I don't get todays players' entitlement that invested time has to equal guaranteed success. Back in the mentioned MMOs or even singleplayer games we played in LAN coop session we just tried things, we experimented, explored and occasionally failed. Today you cannot really "fail", you cannot really "sneak by" something and unfortunately you cannot even "discover" thigns out of the ordinary because playing games turned into linear "jobs".
