The ship itself is awful. The T5 starship mastery trait is decent, and the console is decent.

I already had 400 qmendations from last year on 1 character, so I did the mission and the omega particle 5 times on that character, and once on the others to get the ship. I wouldn't say its worth any more than that though.

It can tank well, especially with the console and warp core.
Well excuse me for having enormous flaws that I don't work on.

Even if it does suck, then grinding for Qmendations means you can get next year's grindiversary ship on the first day of the event and maybe next year's will be better. The way it is currently set up, grinding now means you don't have to grind later. Right now, I have my account set up so that I don't have to grind for the Summer or Winter ships until 2017 and still get those ships the day they come out on each of my characters. I just had to grind for 1080 pearls and 1080 autographs on 3 characters last year.

i find it to be an extremely fun ship and some neat abilities, especially with having the chance to use the kobali boff as a prelude to getting used to the command skills available on her, although its only a Lt Commander seat it still gives us a taste of whats to come on the upcoming T6 command ships, im just hoping the seating arrangement for the command officers will be commander seating and not lower..

If you are a broadsider captain that flies beam cruisers, you will find it a normal ship. Not spectacular or anything, but good. It's able to tank a heckuva lot of damage when fully leveled up by sheer hull points as well as heal skills (the core shield heal, the console, the T6 trait, etc). It's not superb, but it's good. It's a bit awkward at times, but if you're building an agro tank this may be your ride.

However, it's like an Assault Cruiser BOFF layout, but the LT sci was bumped to a LtCDR sci. You could use that for FBP or another sci heal (have PH, HE, and ST all in the same ride, even!), but most are probably going to use it for GW or TR. What that means is that it's a good beam boat braodsider cruiser, but it doesn't have the punch that a more TAC-oriented cruiser has. The hybrid boff is mostly useless right now. If it were Intel, at least you could get some damage-boosting skills out of it. However it's Command (which are terrible).

You say "only" Lt cmdr, but that's more than any Intel capable ship except the specific Intel ships got. Benthan cruiser, breen carrier, guardian, maha, etc all got at best a Lt slot. This one got Lt cmdr, which is a huge difference since that means it can run absolutey any command power, onlyrank 1 of some of them, but it can have them.

I used it on one char to replace a long-in-the-tooth Ambassador. It handles about the same way, decent tank and healer with just enough tac to carry its weight in a fight. Nothing amazing, but no real gaps either.

I found it to be pretty tanky and all but the damage output is pretty poor without some serious though being put into it.
Only Lt & Ens tac slots means it lacks and real powers and can basically only do broadsiding.
The ability to slot tyken's rift of grav well is quite useful, not something many cruisers can do.
I wasn't overly impressed with the command skills but maybe others will find them useful.

I'll mainly just be leveling it to get the trait and then probably not fly it again.

For freebie T6 ships i'd say the Sar Theln is much more useful and a better ship overall.

I am getting it for one reason: I refuse to pay for T6 ships and I want the trait for my T5U's. I will decide what if anything to do with its universal console once I get the ship and play with it.

It's not going to make anybody reconsider their Scimitar or any of those kind of ships...think more Heavy Cruiser Retrofit...but imho it's a fun boat to fly for somebody that's less focused on DPS like I am.

All I can say is that I have seen much better years in STO than these last ones.

People have been predicting that STO would not be around in 6 months since the game came out in 2010. So such claims are completely meaningless. STO will shut down the servers some time in the future since nothing lasts forever, but only PWE, CBS, or some extraordinary circumstances would cause STO to shut down any time soon. As long as STO is making a decent profit, then PWE will not shut down STO. It is far more likely for PWE to shut down CO than STO, but they are less likely to shut down their games unlike some MMO companies.

As far as STO seeing much better years than the last year or two, then you haven't been around that long. There is a reason why 2011 is known as the Year of Hell. The last 6 months has introduced more controversial content than other years, but having decent story content is far better than not having any content.

what is meaningless to you might be meaningful to others...to each its own. If you believe the moon is full of cheese up to you.

Humor translates poorly on the internet. Just been exposed to far too many serious DOOM threads that they have lost all meaning. :P is far more indicative of joking than :D IMO.

I have been through 2 MMOs closing their servers by NCSoft (Tabula Rasa and City of Heroes) and they are never pretty. There is always the chance of a game permanently closing their servers without any warning like City of Heroes. So STO closing in a couple of years is related to a rational fear of mine.

At some point in the future, all virtual items that people have currently purchased, but are not stored on their own computer will no longer exist. There are far too many games that require an internet connection to allow access to their game and no server means no way to play the game. Then there is the problem of hard drive failure. Virtual items in MMOs have it worse since there are ways to circumvent single player games that require an internet connection, but there is no way to save your C-Store or Lockbox items. If STO closes down, then all the items players have spent their money on will vanish. So that JHAS that someone purchased for $500 will not exist in 10 years or whenever STO closes.

My comment was partially to put some perspective on C-Store purchases. There are far better uses for a person's money than on something that will be gone in 10 years.

Also, the whole its just a game comment is something I seriously believe in. Which is why I don't rage against the stuff that Cryptic does. Like all games, if I don't enjoy playing it, then there is no reason to continue playing it.

Compared to a lot of my mates who will spend more on getting drunk over a weekend and pissing that money over a wall than I spend on STO in a year, so whilst I get the jist, one pays for entertainment all the time that does not Last.

If I get another year out of the money I have spent in STO then its money well spent on entertainment (and it did not include bad hangovers, pissed off wife or looking for my pants in the garden bushes )

All in all it's not a very good ship. It's about as lacking in offensive power as it can possibly get. It gains a science ability in compensation, but can't really make use of it as it's lacking in everything else required to make science powers really hit hard and has to sacrifice aux power by running A2B anyway if you want to give it any ability to cycle its extremely limited tactical abilities.

Overall it's about as "tanky" as the various other options out there - but those other options also come with vastly superior offensive power. Pretty as she is, don't get this boat to actually use it. Get her for the trait, then put it in some dark corner and forget about it.

I have the ship, and I am going to continue to use it on the characters that are more optimized to use the ship. I'll decide if I want to use it on the others in time... primary reason why I will continue to use the ship is because I couldn't care less about "offensive" power or getting the best "numbers" in terms of DPS. What you do is on you. You have suggested that people get the ship only to discard, that's fine. Don't expect people to follow your advice, I certainly won't.

That's about my feelings on it too. It's a lot like the ambassador. I like some of the command powers too. Overwhelm Emitters is great at taking down shields while also healing your team's shields. There's no cap so the more damage one does the better the shield heal.

Hahahahaha, so true, rather spend less on beer/alcohol and spend that money on more lasting things. But drinking is needed, after all human is mamal :).
