In all this time i have played the ground missions(bug hunt elite being one), theres been many who are dying long before me. Why???
Because they are poorly equipped and they seem to rely on those better equipped to finish the mission for them.
Its a team effort to complete a mission, and not down to 2 players. All 5 are needed.
In bug hunt elite you need,
Anti toxin traits,
Health Traits,
Good Anti toxin personal armor,
Hypos for health,
Shield charges,
health regenerators to clear any injuries.
If you do not clear injuries, it gets worse for you and the whole mission.
I do wish some people would take note of this and be better prepared next time round.
Failing a mission gets you virtually nothing. Remember that.
If you can, adopt crouching (vs ranged) and basic LoS positioning into your ground routine. It really helps if you want to live longer. Also, flank whenever you can. If you have threat, make the enemy face away from your team. If you have no threat, flank the target as much as possible.

BHE is one of the worst designed in terms of layout, bottlenecking players, and spamming the ever loving FRAK out of them from all directions with enough psionic and toxic (the 2 types least defended against in resistances) to kill 5 elephants.
Honestly, don't blame the players because they didn't min/max their entire build just for ONE mission of debatable quality.
There are flaws with the mission. Big ones. Glaring ones. It kills players very easily. Now, you CAN survive, and it si far better to, but don't call people out as leechers or fools if they happen to die in this badly designed mission.
Bug Hunt Elite is hard?? I'm pretty sure two people can do this mission (maybe even one person). I only use XII gear and I have no problems and I've been on bad teams and have never failed. Maybe I've been doing ground missions for too long

If you have one well trained medic on your team who knows how to heal, you don't even need half the things in that list. Although they do help of course.
The core "problem" is some people prefer space, some prefer ground, some enjoy both. Nothing wrong with this in most of the game and we all/find ways to ejoy our favorite bits.
It becomes an issue when those who despise ground, want nothing to do with it, and therefore aren't geared or experienced with it want delta marks and APCs. So they run bug hunt and have a terrible experience and come away hating ground more than ever. As rodent pointed out, the mission has design choices that make it easy for specialized builds and lethal for other builds. It would be different if, say mine trap or colony invasion gave APCs. Those aren't designed for and dont reward specialized builds--any schmo can do them.
I think when they cut back on trait slots they really harmed the ground-to-space crossover players a lot. All we struggled to unlock was removed and you could only choose a small selection of traits.
It would be easier if you didn't have to reslot traits because you have limited slots. They just need to give you 8 ground slots and 8 space slots, and 5 or more rep slots.
Another issue not helping things is there isn't a lot of info here on the forums or really anywhere on how to do ground well. Ground builds and Space builds are 2 radically different things (which I love by the way) so I think newer players get confused as to what to slot.

Its easy to excel and survive bughunt
like the op said the right armor The Exo armor counter command rep
The right shield delta rep drain resistance with the gun +180 heath
any traits giving toxic and psionic resistances
Weapons are Flavor of the next patch before Nerf
Engineers cover Dome kit module keeps the bugs off your turretsand shield heals
Science the medic kit with heals and resistance all modules
Tacs Lunge and sweeping strikes
Kill Ravergers they spit the toxic and control the little bugs once there dead the little bugs vanish
Flying bugs do the psionic damage
The rest is team coordination and just plain tactical sense

Bug Hunt really is terrible, its just .. STO summed up into a mission. Lots of things to shoot, things shoot back, nothing really in all that interesting. It really pales in comparision to team members splitting up in IGE for rescues and heavy/elite drones, or CGE towers.

Great topic here by the way.
let's be honest here, ground is faaaaaar easier(and cheaper) to gear up than space, maco set is pretty much the cookie cutter for everything but bug hunt, and all you really need for bug hunt is to change your maco armor for a CC armor and get fluidic antigens trait, that way you pretty much solved the toxic and psionic issue on bug hunt(also the armor gives your roll that super dodge, which is pretty useful if you're getting overwhelmed by psionic or toxic attacks).

I find the elite drones to be patethically easy overall and easy to solo requiring little to no team effort
