I was wondering how long it would take to reveal which rabbit-hole you were dragging this thread down into.
Frankly, I knew as soon as I recognized the OP from past threads.
Seriously, dude: if you want to work for Cryptic, as you once claimed, you should be trying to prove to the Human Resources Dept that you are going to be an asset in the office, not a liability in the rehab center...
lol. Sometimes I swear you're one and the same person posting on all these threads, suffering multiple personality disorder and so far gone that you're projecting your insanity and accusations that others have issues outside of you.
As it seems like it's the same exact tone, verbage, personality - every freaking time you bring up a reference to the other threads despite there being different user names.
Now I'm not going to use your keyword insults such as your favorites "trolling", and "drugs", pot kettle/black if you've heard the analogy, but in any case.
Let's be clear about this. This is a different thread. different topic.
And ayup. I do look at the world different than you, I overcame that multiple personality issue a long time ago ;-)
In any case. I have to ask: I loved the tv show, which presented some far out and fantastic concepts based on alternate realities, time travel, simulation, and more.
Now why do you feel so compelled - almost an unhealthy obsession - to invalidate everything I - or anyone it appears - says - that suggests there's more to this game or more potential to it based on simple observation of the series and thinking the same considerations may have been taken into creating this game?
In another words, dude, chill out with the derision, cynicism, and hatred. If I hurt you in a prior life, I'm sorry. But seriously, you're not the only one on this forum, let alone the only one playing this game - and not everyone wants content the same as you!
If you put some effort in it the Character Creator, it is a pretty powerful tool ... within 5 years I've seen ... multiple Yodas, Homer Simpsons, The Joker, Na'vi etc etc ... that's one thing Cryptic is pretty good at : "Character Customization" ...
He saw a team on an away mission. Not a group of single characters.
Which there's clearly something funky and fun goin on with what he saw!
I do bet it was a Cryptic employee or a hacker or something.

lol. Sorry bud, if compliance and conformity are expected of me, anywhere, then I'm clearly a poor fit. Working 30 years in IT, I'm homeless - not in small part because I tend to make my own hours, show up when I want to and leave when I want. I make a mess of things on occasion, after all I started as a hacker when I was 11 years old. And if there's a gorgeous woman employed there, single or not you bet your butt I'm gonna be hitting on her.
No drugs or alcohol, but I take your concept of reality and summarily veto it, and overlay it with my own - because let's face it - your relentless effort to reinforce conformity is like watching paint dry, put in plain Engrish so your little mind can comprehend - it's pretty darn dull and nonsensical and reminds me of hamsters running on treadmills.
In any case. You're taking this thread off topic, intentionally I suspect.
So let's return it to the subject at hand: Have you seen any weirdness in the game at all?
Or would you prefer bullying people and antagonizing those who don't think like you?
Please, don't answer that question if you have nothing to add to the subject matter - which, yes, as a programmer and content developer, I do like believing there's more to this game than what's been publicly documented.
After all, I have seen evidence of it, and this thread is demonstrating pretty clearly so have others.

In the process, I reprogrammed my own mind to accept multiple universes as fact.
It makes SO much more logical sense coming from a computer background where the evidence was staring me in my face the entire time, ya know?
Look, I persist with you because I do sincerely hope you 'get it' and start down your own journey of discussing the different things you may see 'in game' that even i am not capable of seeing.

I welcome the odd encounters in this game, that is part of why I like this Science Fiction MMO. I also like that Star Trek is an idealized vision of our future, something to dream of. I use this game to escape reality, but recognize the need to be firmly planted in that same reality.

Again, I got rid of the BOFFs a couple years back when I started changing my playing style trying different things out in game. The last 3 characters I leveled up to 50, I did it completely without BOFFs (they didn't seem to 'do' anything anyways), and simply sold them off as soon as I received them.
In any case, not sure why you're on me about this. I merely chuckled at the other guy who'd made the comment about the renamed away team!

Um... you don't have Boffs? At all? No one is manning your bridge? thus you are missing the dozen or so abilities that even a poorly built ship would have?
Correct. I don't do combat missions at all.
I've run about every foundry mission I can find that doesn't involve combat. Many actually claim they don't, by the way, but they do, so I get out of those as soon as I learn there's combat.
I leveled up my last two toons running assignments and non combat oriented missions like this.
Without fighting, and I may be mistaken about this - but Bridge Officers don't appear to offer any real benefit from having them on board.
This is substantially different than the duty officers, who have clear benefits - such as speed increases and cooldown periods for transwarp, which comes in handy with this slow acer netbook I'm using. And choosing not to combat is a wise choice since combat kinda sux on this slower machine anyways.
Anyhoo. That's why I see weird things. You could say my playstyle has me looking for in game ways to keep me entertained.

It's a theory I'm toying with, and my suspicion is that 'in game' evidence may provide me clues how to reprogram my own mind to quite literally 'shift' between realities.
Of course.
This all is presupposing that temporal mechanics as Star Trek posits as (air quote) fiction (end air quote) is based on fact, and of course assumes that existing theoretical models of quantum physics and multiple realities are indeed true.

You're either VERY bored or delta rising broke your mind.
Bored? I'm a homeless former 'corporate programmer', man, too much time on my hands and only wielding an underpowered netbook as my sword!
If it's any consolation, I have several 'side programming' projects going, nothing spectacular, I am more working on tools and ideas for creating a real life holodeck - but you can download the 'installs' for the - mostly practical joke type applications - that I have worked on here if you'd like:
And unfortunately, Delta rising requires a person to enter combat, which I dont do. So no, unfortunately Delta and content which forces you to fight is not within the realms of my possibilities.
And no. Never been in a real life fight. At the age of 45.
3 years homeless. So yeah, I'm a tad bored! With no real desire to get back on that silly hamster wheel of chasing the dollar. It is what it is, right?
LoL yeah, this sounds a lot like schizophrenia. I have a brother with this disease, I can recognize it a mile away.
Yeah, I have multiple personalities and schizophrenia. You say that like it's a bad thing...
Definitely helps with the perspective based writing and creativity and makes life more interesting too. I'm working on conjuring a love interest by my imagination only. Although my imagination isn't cooperating that well at the moment ( :-( *sadness* )
You are spot on with your DSM-IV recognition programmiing!

2. Background NPCs are despawned if they slip off the map.
3. Background NPCs are respawned if they are despawned.

I had a similar theory at first, tried pushing myself into the corner, with no luck. Didn't fall through the cracks.
The character would never respond, either. I would wave, send messages, etc. to no end, and the name changed every time with a new character generated every ten seconds.
I am suspecting it's either a form of Artificial Intelligence, particularly since that's much of the work I did before for the last 10 years, or projection of my own mind interacting with the game?
In that time I was there, I ruled out environmental glitches. I had a fast machine and timed the amount of time it took to create a random character like this, and there was no possible way to do it in that amount of time using the User Interface I use.
And in any case, the name incremented by +1, which made it clear it wasn't a spawn/despawn thing.
In any case, you're the type to call them mylar balloons and swamp gas, arent ya?
When you have eliminated the impossible, whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth. - Sir Arthur Conan Doyle
Depends on the person affected. Some have it bad (catatonic or so far gone can't tell what is real or not with constant horrible hallucinations/delusions), others can remain socially functional managing it with pills showing mild symptoms. It's a highly complex brain condition, many aspects of the disorder are essentially still unknown to neuroscientists as it doesn't necessarily manifest the same from person to person.
In any case, you put words in my mouth. I've no idea what dmsv thingamajig is, I was simply guessing you had it from the things you were saying about reality. It doesn't take a lot to diagnose someone with the condition with some degree of certainty. Also I'm not reading your mind.
Also, star trek is not a glimpse into another reality. Star trek is a virtual and very much fictional game and it only exists briefly within the memory banks of computers. It is not another reality or separate dimensional state.
This is my last time I'm posting in this thread .
Let's be clear about this: TO YOU it's fiction.
To me, someone who's accepted Multiple Realities as fact and the holographic universe as a part of that fact - in much the same way you would accept God or Allah or Buddha or the Big Bang as your basis of reality. With this, you seem to carry absolutely no respect for my opinions and perspectives and seem more interested in telling me how messed up I am judging me based on your measure and narrow minded perspective of this world.
Now I do not sit here and insult you and then attempt to backtrack from those insults and then issue another one stating how wrong you are, do I?
I posited this question as a what if, and have received plenty of support by it.
My advice to you is think before you talk.
To the thread moderator, I ask that you please do not 'shut this conversation' down on account of one miscreant who chooses not to play along.
We have to be allowed to defend ourselves, and allowed our differences, and with this, a man such as this simply needs to be put in his place and asked to omit himself and his self righteous inflammatoriy attitude elevating himself above both me and his brother based on his assessment that our perspectives are problems that he has singled himself out as the cure.
People like this, here and in real life - need to understand it's our differences that make us amazing. And to the thread moderator - please take into consideration THIS is his goal - is to shut down free conversation but supplying the spark that instigates my response and thus third party moderation shutdown.
IT's quite simply, how a man like this very predictably functions. Even if he is not aware he's doing this himself.
With that said, deokkent, I know you threatened not to post to this thread again. I wish you hadn't to begin with. But now that you're involved, rather than tearing apart my assertion of in game weirdness, have you experienced anything of the sort?
Think back. ANYTHING would help, bud. Be a pal and act like you're willing to placate the crazy man by playing along for a change.
It might be training on how to understand your own brother and make him right for being who he is for a change.. Or would you choose to continue believing a drug addition is his solution?
Hey lingg, did you consider letting your loved ones know you're OK?

Definitely helps with the perspective based writing and creativity and makes life more interesting too. I'm working on conjuring a love interest by my imagination only. Although my imagination isn't cooperating that well at the moment ( :-( *sadness* )
You are spot on with your DSM-IV recognition programmiing!

1. Background NPC has buggy pathfinding causing it to clip off the map.
2. Background NPCs are despawned if they slip off the map.
3. Background NPCs are respawned if they are despawned.
4. Sequence repeats ad nauseam.
