Suggestion for Dust to dust

risian4risian4 Member Posts: 3,711 Arc User
I'm having some difficulty getting the accolades in Dust to dust. The ramp part is too difficult for me.

It would be nice if a change could be made so that you don't have to redo a large part of the episode to retry. I've restarted the episode 5 times now, just to try to get an accolade. This isn't exactly my idea of fun.

Just making it possible to beam up and do the ramp part would be enough I think. I don't mind to keep trying and exercise to get that accolade, but I'm not going to replay almost the entire episode again and again because I'm interested in one tiny part of the mission.

Or have the walkways active for a few more seconds, that would work too.

HINT: During the maze portion of the mission, there will be a total of three stairs connecting each end of the Maze. When you reach the second set of stairs in the maze, go down the stairs and quickly hang a right, proceeding to the alcove farthest from the stairs, which is the 2nd alcove. In there you will spot a lone Kobali female NPC, talk to her to recruit her as one of your Bridge Officers. [ENJOY that Freebie of a hint]

Now regarding the platform portion of the mission - Shooter mode is your friend and so is the SPRINT key. Use a phaser pistol and not a Pulsewave, as Pulsewave has a slower rate of fire.

Hope that helps a bit with the platform part.

You know, that you have to stay away from the sparkling fields on the platforms? If you hit them the platforms disappear immediately.

Once I have known that and avoided them, I got the accolades and never fell down again.

I passed the retracting platforms in hard mode :D

    Here are some suggestions:

    1) use a fast-firing pistol to minimize firing animation time and maximize your movement speed while shooting. I used the a TOS Klingon disruptor compression pistol.

    2) the retracting platforms have sensor plates that cause them to retract if you step on them. Avoid these at all costs, since stepping on them causes the platform to retract almost immediately.

    3) There are two target ramp controls per group on the wall. As a result, you will shoot 2x each side before having to turn towards the opposite wall to shoot at the next group.

Great tips! Definitely change to a pistol. :)

The Kobali boff, has a randomness to her location, she is not always in the same spot.

This episode is not fun at all. I cannot finish it, but I will try it with what i've seen here.

My suggestions to devs would be for
    PLATFORMS:
Normal mode: after 3 fails, allows zip line to next safe area. I mean they bragged about this zip line thing but you rarely ever get to use it. also exand timer to 15 seconds
hard: haven't tried in on hard as I can't get past it on normal after way too many hours of frustration.

    MAZE:
normal: I would put a timer for 15-20 minutes.
hard: I would set time to 30 minutes and maybe adjust lighting.
very hard: I would kill the lights and make the player use the flashlight, set timer to 45 minutes.

45 minutes??? I can clear the maze in about a minute, maybe two if I was having issues...

It's not hard just use normal view and zoom out to max and look down on your character if you are having issues.

The platforms are very simple. Use a pistol, avoid the randomised electrified squares and keep moving. You don't need to sprint, if anything it makes it harder. If you use a pistol make sure you only have autofire on the main fire not the secondary. Secondary fire takes too long and causes you to drop into the pit.

I do however think Cryptic need to work on levels that aren't 100% linear, giving more options and choice for completing problems would easily make re-playability of missions a lot more interesting.

Here is what I did to train with the ramps. Do not deactivate them when you are on the other side, you can go back and return as much as you like. It is a good method for practizing. When you are experienced run the mission for the accolade

What others already said. Shooter mode, tab targetting may make you hit the wrong sensor and you loose time. I have a keybind for continuous sprinting, /bind [key] ++run. Speed is the key, so anything helps like a fast firing pistol, although I did it with a riffle.

I agree with OP at a certain point. I would like to have this kind of stuff in a shorter mission. Once you know the story all the talking is boring, but the puzzles are fun to do and give you a way of making things harder. For instance I want to walk (jog) to the other side then maybe to walk.

Last jump puzzle has a little hidden help if you fall down there is a possibility that you spawn on a bridge above the gap.
Its still tricky but its better than start from the beginning .
If your on the bridge shoot one and look if you can jump down some where safe .

I did manage one time to get over without falling but its more luck than being good at it ;)

So if your having a hard time try to get shoot more than one before you jump .
Look at the sparkles its like fire dont stand on it .
You have to focus on the parts have no sparkles you can land next sparkles and run left or right
to a spot with no sparkles or try to jump over but that often failed for me .

    Good luck !!!
Died a lot on the last jump puzzle but if i can make it everyone can make it ;)

Everything can be managed here. Don't give up!

I gathered all accolades by tries and error. Someone gave nice tips before, here's another one: if you have troubles with ramps try to use "Pause" while aiming (default key: T). It will save you some time.
    Yeeeesss!!! I did it!!

Just got the accolade on first attempt on Advanced. It's pretty easy you have a lot of time to do it.

I did most of the mission. Have to retry later when I got time to get back on. So far most of it was good and easy. I died a several times in the lighting bolt area. Mostly due to me trying to rush. The maze was easy. I just walked around and hit the consul to mark them "X". Found the new Boff added her to my list. The platforms I was having trouble, but did make it to the center bridge. And ended up having to log off. I was about to figure out them as well. So far it can be done.

And we are still experience lag on the game. As some of the game play still showing it. But its not as bad.

Come on. It is an achievement. Either you are good enough to get it fast, or not, and than it hurts. I bet that even if it would be possible to redo just small part of a mission someone soon or later would start to whine, that it is still too hard, so maybe devs would give accolade just for 10 tries :P No pain, no gain. So good luck to everybody (including me, since I haven't done it yet too) XD

I suck at the part with the platforms, but I still found the mission fun. These are just achievement accolades, so if you can't get them, like me, no real loss. Some people are more skilled at things than others. Don't let it stress you out. just move on to something else.
