Was there ever a moment in the history of your STO career when you thought: "That isn't right anymore, i need a break/don't want to play anymore" ?

For me it was that match last year: http://www.hilbertguide.com/leaderboard/encounter.php?id=11564
The new Xindi escort just came out and it was so overpowering at first that it just felt wrong playing with it. That was the point when i just sad back, reduced my playtime and waited for something to be introduced that would restore STO to a better state. DR came out and i had high hopes for it, but i'm still waiting ...

What about you guys?

the introduction of romulans in LoR.
has a fleetmate excited to show me how great his new lvl 40 rom was. he was nearly constantly simultaneously cloaked with an eternal decloak bonus. my vanilla kdf pvp toon had no chance in hell. i came to the realisation that pvp (long the territory of the kdf) was effectively being given to the romulans, and aside from the occasional romp through kerrat i havent bothered with pvp since.

same here. s6: hell lotta fun. s7: "something's wrong at the playground"....

bo doffs also has been a sign of it dying to me. just as a2b.... can't recall more instantly and don't ask me when those got introduced. but uber-roms indeed have been like a big bb-waving to me in the first place. but, as we all know: hope is a bi*** :(... even more when get heated on and on by cryptic, just to let it down when it came to hard facts (beloved s8-tale lulz)...

Yep thats when they really f'ed up the game.Haven't played since and pretty sure I will never return because i had 5 years to understand how things work around here.
I reported bugs ,I offered them ideas how to fix and balance the game to make it fun ...all were disregarded so nothing left to do here. They are only destroying the thing that brings them the money.

Kit revamp. While itself not a big deal as many powers were stuck on kits with less then useful abilities, this was the precursor to the lockbox kit abilities. Specialization passive were just another nail, and quite possibly the final one for ground. I've had 2 level 60 queue games since DR launched., so back to space I went.

Pretty much the same amount i queued up into a space arena. Got chain disabled and "Surgicaled" and haven't queued up since. At least gave me some time to get space rich ... meh.

As a much derided Kirk, I can say season 8.5 to DR was kind of a golden age for me. Teamwork was still going to beat anyone, but it felt like there was a fighting chance. I played largely in Ker'rat, loved facing the excellent KDF opponents. Playing there took my skill and builds to new levels.

Then I jumped in post DR. Surgical Strikes, Viral Torps, Neutronics, Ionic and more... I found there was nothing I could do against that. At least before I had a chance against vape builds. Haven't done any PvPing since.

I stuck around since Open Beta. Waiting, hoping. Struggled through the worst of it. Even the chain Ionics and Surgicals.

But now, I've given up. I just log in to do DOffs and R&D (for that ever important Particle Manipulator trait).

I got tired of the no skill involved TBR kills. I got tired of everyone zipping around at like 50+ speed, 100% of the time. I got tired of Escorts simply looking at me and having my shields and hull drop to 0 because they invested in Mk XIV gear and my Blue Mk XI/Fleet Gear/T5U ship just wasn't cutting it. I got tired of Neutronics taking me from not only full, but full and buffed, to dead in the blink of an eye.

I just... got tired of all the TRIBBLE. Now I'm just farming ISA over and over and over, because what else is there to do?

I haven't seen anyone defending PvP post DR.

For me, I lost the faith after the romulans came out. That was a very depressing time for me as far as pvp in sto is concerned. But I never EVER could have thought it would get this bad.

Yip. Bet all those Doooooooooom posters trolling people with concerns now feel like the prize tools they behaved like.

indeed, going from season 8 to 9 was a major downgrade in pvp quality. in season 8, everything that at one time was op or up all sort of marginalized each other, and more types of builds were effective as ever. season 9 had everything season 8 had, which even at the time i was aware just somehow was a great time to be pvping, and added crafting consoles and traits that imbalanced particle damage to a ridiculous extent, and introduced a new god escort, the zindi. none of these things improved any pvp match they were a part of, season 9 was 100% a downgrade in fun and quality.

i played half as much season 9 as i did 8, if it wasn't the matches being no fun, it was all the chip on their shoulder sci caps, entitled to getting broken tier buffs cause muh neglected, trying to defend how broken FBP and TBR was now. or how every single other escort just had absolutely nothing on the zindi, it was even worse then the bug was at it's prime. was really hoping DR and the intel skills would somehow be an improvement, marginalizes what was imbalanced, and really inject some newness and freshness into pvp, that had drastically just lost quality and fun lately. we all know how foolish it was to hope for that now.

i'm surprised people are still hung up on romulans though, they were always dangerous but could never really go toe to toe with their warp core counterparts. not enough power, slow, weak shield res, all they had was the highest vap potential, if they were trying to be used like warp core ships, they died the easiest by far.

because anything i can do, a romulan can do better by virtue of being a romulan. theres a reason so many people in pvp dropped their vanilla toons (most of which had expensive gear, lb ships, lobi consoles, doffs, etc), rolled romulans and started all over again.

LoR...there had been powercreep before that, but the way they catered to some folks and went over the top there...meh. It definitely set the path they took and where things went from there, imho.

    Yep.

2 built in "Oh *****" buttons in the Singularity abilities, Battle Cloak and never ending Ambush bonuses for all, the start of the CrtH madness, and the ever so lovely Valdore console.

Throw a Leech and the right Core on, and all of that -40 power handicap suddenly disappears.

BUT. Even with all that, it wasn't nearly as bad as it is now.

They could always make a shard for a older sto version (lets say s5) where we can pvp.Back then there was way way way less cheesy ,Ui was working (yes the blue one) ,follow target camera was keeping with ship;s speeds ,the grind was less ....I'd actually pay to have that game and all my pvp friends back .

a rom captain in a warp core ship might be better, with the right superior boffs, but war birds are high risk, high reward. and they don't work well used as typical escorts, sci ships or cruisers, they are only good for hit and run. and when they do that, they aren't soaking their fair share of the incoming fire, so the rest of your team is easier to focus. for how deadly warbirds can be, they can also easily be a team's achilles heal.

lol, like any of this reasoning even maters or applies anymore, with pvp in the state its in.

is there some low-risk high-reward kdf ship good for more than the hit and run that i overlooked?

Till s8 everything was pretty ok imo.
I had the most fun in matches with my jhec and corvette while they were competitive.
Roms did seem op at first but i never found them to be to much
a2b was a problem and i've been playing the spacebarbuild too but it wasn't to bad, right? :D

s8 and everything after made me play less and less. s9, the grind... and all the new stuff... am not sure anymore if the devs know there is a pvp part in the game. They speak of it but can they find it???

Al these (bad) changes drove many of my friends out the game and me as well. To all the ones that remain... wait for that pop and hf? ^^

Two times previously, when the game went F2P (I was on tribble testing all the crazy changes) and when LOR came out.

LOR especially. All those crit boosting traits and boffs, the valdore console, battle cloak, singularity powers.

Post DR I just log in for about 30 minutes per day. I spend more time reading the Star Citizen forums then playing this game.

When I left in the past, I still had the itch...still followed the news and development and knew I'd be back. This is the first day I've even looked at the boards since I walked away the week before Thanksgiving in the US and I can honestly say for the very first time, I haven't missed it one bit. I was a closed beta player and this was the very first game I became a pvper in. I know I'm not very well known, but I have spoken with many of you on different occasions. I miss you guys and the fun I HAD, but deep down, I know it's gone. Uninstalled the game for the first time in 5 years last week. Godspeed and good luck, all. Thanks for the memories :)

For me and my fellow pvp mates it all began with the new R&D system.
It hinted the direction the developers were going to take. more grind and senseless powercreep. i think at the same time the xindi scort came out and it was really OP back then.
It was really strange to see this new scort at that time because 2 weeks before there was the bug ship promotion and the xindi scort outclassed the bug ship massively.
It made it obsolete, at least in premade environments which really was a shame because many newer players acquired the bug in the promotion and then xindi came out.
Also the introduction of more and more of SH*** consoles (f.e.: alpha deception or fluidic phase jump) really messed with the meta in teampvp premade environments.
I dont know why you guys are complaining so much about partg stacking. after the rnd hit, the pandas came with a full particle team buid, which was very powerful but not unbeatable.
the weakness of partg stacking is that it requires no real timing. its a tactic based on spam. against a real coordinated "classic" team with fast healers and spike dmg escorts it was not that big of a deal. you just had to be disciplined to stay out of the spam and do some hit n run tactics. by the time were pandas came out with this setup very few premades were left mainly because of the uber cheese possibilities and/or the powercreep.
in season 8 we and a lot of other pvp fleets had a very awesome time. we were doin regularly private matches and learned a lot about team pvp and timing.
i really have to point at the Alpha Zero fleet premade which had incredible timing and teamwork. it was fascinating to see such an extend of teamplay.
Back then teamplay was the most important thing ever.

I want to thank all of you premade pvpers for the awesome and epic battles we had back then. it was very fun and definitely required a lot of coordination and skill!

what happened when DR came out is that teamplay was getting negated.
    1. you cant build a team setup around broken mechanics (f.e.: dampeners skill doesnt soft counter intel disables, or the boff skill aux to dampeners doesnt work anymore vs these stupid disables. Neutronic torps etc. pp.)
    2. Disables without hard/soft counters in a team environment dont make any sense: what would happen if u have a full premade spamming viral torps and ionics? there will be no fun left. (and more importantly no skill left ;) )
    3. Healers were made obsolete with DR, at least for pug matches. ofc a team without a healer is no team but the problem is, that since u cant pug with healers anymore (for obvious reasons) people were dropping their healer toons also because of the ludacris upgrade costs and mainly cause of the disables.
    4. veterans got tired of getting killed with broken ****z, so most of them left the game. one would say its not a big deal if vets leave the game, there will come new players to replace them. BUT: the MOST important thing in this game was to know the mechanics, KNOWLEDGE was KEY. without knowledge no premade team could prevail.
the consequence of vets leaving the game is clearly not only that the players are missing but more importantly that the knowledge will cast away with them.

Anyways in my opinion it all started with the RnD introduction and peaked when DR came out. the disables killed team pvp and the upgrade costs killed the pug q.
It is really really sad that the game has come to this state where no premade pvp is left and the only fun matches one can get is through private channels (like T5U channel).

I really gave up hope when they stated clearly that ionic turbulence is "working as designed" in contradictory to hundreds of pvpers who stood up against it in the forums.

with all that being said i really want to thank you all again for the good macthes we all had before all this sh*** was introduced.

    RIP team pvp

    best regards,

    Hassan, 58. Geschwader
