1 vs 1 in the end What wins Def vs DPS

Does anyone know what is actually best in a 1 on 1.
I've seen some incredible Dps spike builds in my day, and I've also seen ppl take on small armies seemingly going undamaged.

What are your thoughts on this, Best defense possible, vs best Dps.
Who wins ? Is it a stale mate ? Is it a double ko ? (Fbp defense)

At what point does dps overpower maximum possible defense ? Is there such a condition ? Or can the heaviest sheilds and hull field any dps barrage ?

    Both matter.

What matters more is timing and adapting to what your opponent is running and when.

You can't win 1v1 without both, you will always be playing kill vs death windows of timing.

Edit: do not neglect spike damage and spike def/healing, this matters much more than dps or constant res.

    Have fun kill bad guys

You need both to survive. And, with Reciprocity, one leads directly to the other (high defense -> high DPS).

That being said, it's curious that there's diminishing returns on Defense/Resistance but not on Damage Buffs.

timing wins in 1vs1s you can have low defense and high dps and win vs someone that is balanced if you can time your spike right. I run a balanced build and can change my power levels in a match to offset peoples dps.

Skills like going down fighting, subnuke, scans, even fire on my mark that can be used to take down a foe if timed right vs their healing. Other things used to take down good people is tricking them into using some tanking skills like rsp before they really need it. You can go cheep and make a ship that is nothing but feed back pulse and rsp 2 copies of each and spam them. The new stuff has made sci the best 1vs1 setups you can get.

I dont know if you talk about past sto or your post is a quote from the past.

now lets go back to 2015 sto not 2012.I can spam spacebar and remove your ship off the map through shields in few seconds and without enough epte3 and other speed boosts you wont even get close to me.

geko trek online....game where timing and game balance make no sense.

I'm quite curious how we'll get alt-friendly updates as well, seeing as I have 45 characters.

I have used the new stuff and fought against it and yes you can spam but if you spam them and the other guy is timing their spam them you will loose vs the one timing the stuff. i have yet to see anyone do well with everything bound to their spacebar. You might kill karrat people or even some good players just cause you might have the op stuff and they don't but if they get it spam spacebar will fail even with new stuff... Right now though to win sto you need nutron torps and a lot of kinetic damage buffs i can get over 100k a torp off the spread which has 3 torps :P no one can really survive 300k with 200k of it going to hull unless you have 120k hull and 90 resist lol.

i can spam spacebar from my xindi escort and fly back and forth at 300000000 speed and you wont even have time to react and if you react with tt its pointless because bleedthrough is like the level of bs in the podcasts with Geko....very very high.

if shields are not important ,if you don't have epte 3 you can't play ,if half of the match you are disabled or escorts have both escort and cruiser/eng station then yes pvp is not worth playing.Look at who is left in pvp and you will see who agrees with me and who is not.

Lol, This made me laugh... and yup, haven't played in about 6 months, just logging in every couple months to stay in the fleet. Too bad for the franchise, the game could have had great potential.

As a preferred weapon of choice for dealing out high Dps would be the ANTIPROTON beam arrays, they have a 2.5% chance of bleed through and when your using a star cruiser with 4 fore and 4 aft weps then you have got some nice Dps going out. If there was any shield choice for def, it would be the COVARIANT or REMAN PROTOTYPE shield arrays. This is just My opinion and if you have anything mean to say, please keep it in your head. I choose the REMAN PROTOTYPE over the COVARIANT shield arrays because it has reduced bleedthrough and come with great cosmetic effects, good for dealing with undine and players who use ANTIPROTON like the dyson science vessels.

Post a reply saying that dyson ships are op if u support :D:cool:

Those who know me can testify, if your set up correctly defense will win, while yes there are diminishing returns defense there are other things that give defense to your character that do not use the sliding-scale in other words the matter what your defense is if you click something like give your all that 20% pops on top of the 75 and there are other things out there that do this as well.. I'm just saying, if you're set up right no one person should kill you, but on the other hand don't fly a squishy ship attempt to apply towards a defense do it or resistance and figure not to blow up, not going to happen... Let me clarify for second and when I say "win" all that resistance defense the one thing you're not gonna do is probably kill somebody, unless there is a new Tronic torpedo in there somewhere, but I will get in that way do is say hey look I will stop moving I'm going to eat a sandwich while you attempt to kill me you got 10 minutes go..... Hilarity is always a assured

Note that only Fluidic Antiproton has a chance to deal shield-penetrating damage and repel. Standard antiproton has a CritD bonus instead of a proc.

The Reman Prototype shield is also a covariant-type, and as such has the exact same bleedthrough (10%) as a standard covariant. Its proc does provide additional capacity when fired upon, however. Only resilient-type shields have a reduced bleedthrough (5%).

The integrated DHCs on the Dyson science destroyers deal Proton damage, which is different from Antiproton.

Finally, I do think you're missing the point of the thread.
