Breakdown and analysis of NEW Command Abilities

adorenkoadorenko Member Posts: 0 Arc User
I thought it might be a good time to give my feedback, whether its right or wrong, on the new Command abilities. Although, whats right for me may be wrong for you and vice-versa but it may let you think about things from another point of view.

Oddly enough there are some abilities that may seem worthless at face value but when used as a teaching tool have some real value. Like Rally Point, this skill makes a view-able marker on the space map which could help while teaching new players how to do a Conduit Space or whatever.

Much of the skills coming with this new patch involve teamwork, there are some that might be good on there own but time will only tell. I hope you find my video review helpful, enjoy!

Q: What ships/seats allow the use of Command Officer abilities in Space?

A: In order to utilize the Command Officer space abilities, you must be flying a starship that has a Hybrid Command Officer Bridge Officer seat. They are not usable in “Universal” Profession seats, or existing Intelligence Specialist Bridge Officer seats. The line-up of starships that will have hybrid Command Officer seats has not yet been announced, but keep your eyes on our website for those announcements!

So I missed this part when I made the video and I'm sorry but this seems like TRIBBLE to me. I have to buy new ships AGAIN!?!

This is the wrong way to monetize. Make it fun for me to open my wallet. The current Intel ships should be able to run these abilities in their intel slots. In fact I figured these new abilities were going to be open to all slots but oh how naive I am, of course they wouldn't be.

I'm sure this will probably fall on deaf ears but in case it doesn't, please don't require us to buy new ships to use these new abilities. I have purchased enough ships already. i should want to buy a ship because it's cool not because I have to.

Nope, gonna have to get new ships to use the new command specialization abilities. It's the Cryptic way. :D

But hey, no doubt we're getting a "free" ship come Anniversary time, right? :P

It'll be the first time that I haven't bothered grinding for a free ship in this game. That stupid "find Q under the things" game is a textbook example of a grind for no reason.

What's wrong with us walking up to an NPC, saying "Hello" and getting a token once every 24 hours that'll count toward a free ship? Why do we have to jump through an extra hoop?

I refused to grind for the Dyson Destroyer last year and I'm highly unlikely to decide to grind for a new ship this year. Especially knowing there will be an account-wide C-Store version of whatever they come up with.

I might miss a set piece. Oh well. Won't be the first time I've used a partial set and made do.

Sorry about the off-topic bit, I'll stop derailing now. :)

In a roundabout sort of way, it IS on topic. The first "Command" ship we get to see will be:

    A) Tucked away behind an unnecessary grind, and

    B) A hamstrung version of a ship they'll be releasing as part of an account-wide ship pack

It's not the best start to the whole "Command ship" thing really.

Oh, and I got myself the free Dyson destroyer last year, flew it twice and deleted it. It put me right off the idea of buying the full C-Store version of the ship.

I'm not buying any ships, or Zen, until we get a guarantee that T7 is a few years off and upgrades will apply to all ships of a class and not just individual variants.

Grind ships are the only T5-U and T6s I have or will likely every have. I'll buy ships. I won't rent them.

Yeah I wonder if they'll call it a T6 ship though and will they gimp a console slot like they did with last years and with the Obelisk free version?

1 word... 7 letters, 2 syllables, starts with an "m", 2 vowels... , no letters are duplicated...

Come on I know you can do it!

In your review, you really wright off a lot of the ground command abilities when they're the ones that are looking to possibly be OP, while the space ones are only decent if you have good coordination with your team (isn't going to happen in PvE unless you're in the 30k+ dps crowd). At least on ground there's a chance that if one of your BOffs uses an ability like take cover, your other BOffs are going to automatically respond and crouch.

Also, my 2 cents on command ships: They'll be a flop. They have almost no place in the game, and where they do there's hardly enough people to buy them. (PvP and uber dps club)

If the anniversary ship is T6 (90%+ chance), and has a decent starship trait, I'll probably grind for it on maybe 2 of my toons tops.

I already answered that one, but mine had more consonants and vowels.
