I'm looking for advice on what energy type to use and what type of weapons to help best in pves. My ship, currently, is a Chimera Heavy Destroyer, 4 fore, 3 aft weapon setup with an engineer captain.
I've been reading many posts about what is better for overall dps, but what is best in pve? Sometimes you need to take ships out quickly and not wait for any dot. Would like to hear opinions on this. And can the proc chance be boosted? At just 2.5% there seems little point in running them and hoping they proc.
A lot of things come into play, style and budget and without knowing what your running will end up having some posting some very expensive builds to make.
There is a 15s System Cooldown between APs.
There is a 20s Duplicate Ability Cooldown between FAWs.
You will desync right after the first time they fire.
At best, they will sync up once every minute. That's 75% of APs without FAW, and 66% of FAWs without APs. An obvious decrease in performance.
Just assign all three APs and both FAWs to a separate button, and tap that button twice when you see they're both an AP and a FAW available. It's an extra button you tap every 20s for a very appreciable increase in performance.
Not to hijack your Chimera build thread but I was wondering if darkjeff could elaborate on the attack pattern/FAW info he just gave out?
So if I understand correctly I would create a keybind for say (T) that has
(all my attack patterns (APA, APB, APD, APO)) + (all my beam (BFAW/BO) or cannon abilities (CSV/CRF) )
and then while battling in space I would just hit T when I saw any of those abilities available?
I ask because I had went the Hilbert method where everything was on the spacebar and I just keep hitting the spacebar (a lot) to keep the abilities hot.
Speaking of the Chimera - I use the Thoron infused Polaron on it and it's a beast, but I think Jeff's technique above may make it more beastly
When you see both a Fire At Will and an Attack Pattern available, you tap T twice.
The point here is that Fire At Will has a minimum 20s between uses, while Attack Patterns have a 15s. So you want to wait the additional 5s before firing the Attack Pattern, in order to have both buffs active at once.
I did this (splitting the attack abilities off spacebar onto a different button) some time ago, after sarcasmdetector basically told us not to be so lazy. My DPS immediately jumped up by something like +20% (iirc).
If you hit someone when you have APB active, they will suffer -X (dependant on attack pattern captain skill) damage resistance debuff for 5 seconds; so whilst the power is active for 10 seconds, the debuff is active for more {firing cycle/last hit/blah blah/windowless monads/scanner's moment}.
Basically, stick FAW on one bind, APx on another, and ping 'em off together. Job's a good 'un.

probably go with beam arrays and faw even thou it is 4/3 set up.
your an engineer so you have EP2X trait... so I would space bar: EP2W, EP2S x2, FAW x2, APO x2 and APB.
Could always go cannons if you prefer... swap out FAW with CRF and CSV.
3 Dmg Control DOs to reduce cool down time for EP2X.
Never put Attack Patterns and FAW on your Spacebar.
Their cooldowns will desync, and you lose a big chunk of DPS.
this is pve and not pvp... desync sure but how often?
you have 3 copies of AP and 2 FAWs. total cool down between FAW copy 1 and copy 2 is what?
