I watched their little intro video and frankly I'm non the wiser of what kind of game it even is.
I'm assuming they were showing off some in-game of a Star System, but it really doesn't show a damn thing... to make matters worse the majority is just the project leads being like "Yeah this is awesome because it's for the fans", but what they were talking about creating a crew out of all of the renown show characters really sounds more like just vapid fan service over creating any sense of adventure that is your own.
Guess time will tell when they actually show something off with it, but I'm getting the sense of it being some fairly weak tap-tap iPad game. I miss the days of Developers working with an IP because they have a true passion for said IP as well as making a game that suits the subject matter rather than trying to bend the IP around a game idea they had.
They got it right in that Star Trek is mostly about discovery and exploration, but the details are extremely lacking about what type of game it is. Might be better than a lot of the Star Trek games, but it is purely wait and see. It might end up like Infinite Space for all we know.

i signed up for it...u never know it might be good, but games always make a lot of false promises before launch too...if it can give me the fun of playing an authentic star trek experience ill switch to this new one, but if its just a bunch of ship icons floating around like a fishtank, ill bail out! its too bad these mini devs that have such good intentions of basing a game designed (for the fans!) arent ever funded by larger corporations, so we can just jump into adventure without buying every step of the way like in tor (im just glad its not changed or removed once paid for), or (standard issue MMO upgrades) grinding so we can grind the grinding material to grind the next material to get the best grinding material to upgraded and begin grinding for the next level =@.@= ...dont let me down new star trek game!
edit: i wonder, could they have been watching these forums and decided to give us what we been jumping on cryptic about to add?? that company could have consulted their devs and decided, there was enough voices asking for THAT, could spring up a possibility for reliable market in it. i imagine if u go to any trek convention and say we will give u the total experience without grinding or overpaying , u would have an epic following....unless u turn out to be a bunch of ships floating around like a fish bowl...i hope this doesnt turn out to be a cheap browser game...

buying character packs, combining same character cards to upgrade the character,...
