"Best" Class for Romulans

Jolan Tru

So I've gotten a science and tactical officer up to 11 but before I go further I'm curious what class tends to mesh well with the specifically Romulan/Reman ships?

I really like the D'deridex, but all the Romulan ships appeal to me visually.

I would roll a Reman science officer, but the fact that I can't make my reman grey (like they should be) turns me of...silly I know.

Anyways any guidance would be of help!

You may find guidance in the three separate player abilities.

Much appreciate the link - though I am not entirely new to the game, just coming back from a long break.

I guess my question is more, what class tends to mesh well with the romulan ship's playstyle?

I don't believe romulan ships as a whole provide a benefit to one career over another compared to the other factions. The better alpha strike Romulan ships have works nice with the toolkit of a tactical captain though from my own experience. Still, I do not feel more potent than my federation science captain in his cruiser.

Yea this seems fairly reasonable. Do only Romulan ships get battle cloak? I think klingon's had it as well?

Also does it get boring to have a Klingon Tactical officer as well as a Romulan one? Or is there enough variation to be exciting?

The elephant in the room is the issue of power levels. I regard the Engineer-Specific trait EPS Conduit Effieciency-which gives bonus power to all systems upon using a battery or Emergency Power ability-to be a very good 'fix'.

Tac captain can rock any ship. Engi can do pretty well if you are able to max out all your power levels, but the heavy ships in the Romulan fleet are very big and slow. Sci is very restricted and requires c-store or faction-ally ships to have a good selection.

    Tac captain is simplest

For me the boringness is fixed by speciality, like what you tac captain flies. I have 4 tacs, one of which I created specially to use the JemDread Carrier, and each one flies a different type of ship and uses a different playstyle.

Key point is to mix it up.

Also ALL romulan ships have battle cloak, even cruisers and sci ships, only Klingon Bird of Preys have battle cloaks.

Depends on your play style and how you allocate skill points. Ships mostly affect performance in space. I have a KDF and Fed Tac officers that are set up very similar. The ground combat is the same for both, but because the BOFF skills on each are different, the Space combat goes in different directions despite having similar ships (Vor'cha and Soverign respectfully) I have two Fed tac officers that are different not only because one uses a cruiser and one uses an escort. One focuses more on ground than the other in addition to being different species. That affects gameplay within the same faction.

Imo I think tactical is the prime fit for Romulans.

These are all great comments and have helped me for sure.

Right now my highest lever character is a Klingon Engineer.

Based on what I'm reading here, I can have a klingon tactical officer as well as a romulan and have enough spice and difference to enjoy both. :D

Once they fix the Reman coloration I'll give science a whirl!

    Thanks guys

I'm actually a little surprised there isn't a more Science lean for the Romulans which I though there would be. The Klingons are tactical leaning, the Federation is cruiser heavy but on the Roms there is only one level 50 ship with a commander level SCI boff slot and it's a fleet version. I would have figured with the Romulan consoles from the embassy rep system being science leaning the Roms would have had more ships with SCI as a command slot.

I like playing a Romulan engineer. He kicks butt on the ground and my Mogai refit has >60k hull strength, 12k shields, has a standard cruising speed of about 50 and turns like my Defiant did.

What is really cool is it looks like there is a different style for each and that our choices actually have CONSEQUENCE!

I am sick of those MMO that race/faction is a simple cosmetic choice!

I like actually having it mean something more!

I'll put a vote in for the Tactical Romulan. I started one, now every other tactical toon I have feels underpowered. Beef up on Superior Romulan Operatives and you've got one mean space killer.

Oh, yes and another thing: ally with the KDF just to stick it to Cryptic.

There is no "best" class. There is the class that best meshes with your playstyle.

For my part, I put my Rom Sci in a Fleet D'Deridex with an unconventional build and have never had a problem.

    EDIT: NVM, necro.
